Over the course of four Ip Man movies, Donnie Yen's character faced off with a multitude of formidable challengers. Some were close to home, while others were foreigners skilled in forms of fighting unfamiliar to Master Ip. Whether it was his own reputation that was attracting attention or someone else forcing Ip's hand, he was constantly contending with fellow martial artists of varying skill levels and overcoming great challenges.

Some were beaten rather effortlessly, while others were strong enough to deliver some of the Ip Man franchise's best fights. Donnie Yen has inked a deal to reprise his role as Caine, the highly skilled, blind assassin introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4, in a new film from Lionsgate set to shoot in Hong Kong next year, the studio announced on Wednesday.

The Donnie Yen-starring action thriller “Raging Fire” will open in North American theaters on Aug. 13, its distributor Well Go USA Entertainment announced Friday.

Global streaming giant Netflix has acquired rights to “The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity,” a period fantasy action film by the ferociously talented and divisive director Guo Jingming. The film is set for a major theatrical release in mainland China on Dec. 25.

Netflix, which acquired rights excluding China, will release it in the rest of the world on Feb. 5, 2021, shortly before the Lunar New Year holiday celebrations.

Independent distributor WellGo USA has secured North American distribution rights for action-packed sci-fi comedy “Max Cloud.” The company plans to give it a digital on-demand release in December. A theatrical release remains a possibility, but will be determined by the state of the coronavirus-strained exhibition sector.

Rights are handled by U.K.-based Fae Film & Television, which announced the sale at the virtual edition of Hong Kong’s FilMart. The company says that while many international rights have been sold to Spi International, a handful of territories remain available, including Japan, Australia, Germany, the U.K. and China.

The film, which delves into a retro gaming era, is directed by Martin Owen (“Twist”). It stars martial artist Scott Adkins alongside John Hannah, Lashana Lynch and Tommy Flanagan.

*Updated w/ New Release Date* Fans of Yeon Sang-Ho's emotional zombie movie Train to Busan have been eagerly awaiting the sequel since the trailers were released earlier this year, and now you can mark your calendars, as Well Go USA has announced a US theatrical release for August 21st (with Canada on August 7th), followed by a release on the streaming service Shudder in early 2021.

The summer of 2020 looks to go down in the history books as the time Netflix truly established their dominance over the fantasy genre, with the streaming service releasing a steady stream of both movies and TV shows that have taken over their most-watched list and generated plenty of buzz in the process.

The Old Guard is already one of their ten most popular movies ever and is projected to rack up 72 million streams in its first four weeks of being available, while Warrior Nun has reportedly already been renewed after turning out to be a huge success. Meanwhile, the highly-anticipated second season of The Umbrella Academy arrives in a matter of days to add the final exclamation point, but Cursed isn’t showing any signs of falling out of favor anytime soon, and is still the most-viewed scripted TV show on Netflix.

For only the second time in the five months of parallel theatrical/Video on Demand releases, one film led grosses both in available theaters and on at least one home viewing chart. Dave Franco’s “The Rental” (IFC) grossed $404,000 in 250 theaters, two thirds of them drive-ins, to easily best several library titles made available this week. “The Karate Kid” (1984) was #2 with about half that gross from a larger number of theaters.

The horror thriller, starring Dan Stevens and Alison Brie, about two couples at a vacation rental facing unexpected terror, also placed #1 on Apple TV’s list of most viewed titles. With the film only released on Friday (too late for inclusion on other current charts), this is likely only a harbinger of more success as other lists are updated.

But a raft of independent features and the re-release of a fantasy blockbuster may translate into a stronger weekend, as exhibitors hope to see audience confidence grow in returning to cinemas.
