Hooked! Not for the weak-willed

I was drawn in after seeing an ad for this show which I believed was because of my love for all things Fallout (the video game series). Day Zero reminds me of LOST and X-Files as far as TV goes but for games, more so like The Last of Us, Hulk or Fallout. I was hooked from the beginning to end, the realism and attention to detail was put to good use. For example, women in this environment still want to look pretty and I don't blame them (that's a natural human response to escaping the realities of a post-apocalyptic situation). Many "what if" scenarios here, some may think "controversial" (especially in Season 2). Fantastic little indie :)

Impressive effort

**Let me state beforehand that I've now watched both seasons of this series before writing this review.**

Not knowing anything about this show, I started off watching the Season 2 premiere just out of curiosity; I had done a search on Amazon Prime video and this show came up. I liked the way it looked, and the writing seemed good, so I continued watching and wound up finishing the episode. The problem I had was that there is a season 1. I have this thing about not watching a show unless I watch it from the beginning, so I just decided to bite the bullet and purchase it.

First off, I can say that the pilot episode is the most raw filmmaking- wise in the entirety of the show. This first season maintains much of this aesthetic, but it does improve. It seems that the filmmaker or writer (or both) structured this season to be a narrow character study, where the story's universe is merely a setting rather than the subject.

Moving on to Season 2, the story picks up somewhat from where the first ended, but you immediately get the feeling that the scope of this season is much broader. The quality of both cinematography and writing are considerably improved, and this lends evidence to that fact. I found it enjoyable watching this season more because stylistically it veers into territory that only Hollywood would even attempt. Quite impressive for what seems to be a low-budget project, as far as I can tell.

If anyone can point me to another low/no budget production of similar quality, post it. Because I don't know of any other yet.

Poor props and acting

After watching the first 10 min of episode 1 stopped. The rifle used to shoot the deer was a Red Rider BB Gun...how original! The acting was awful to say the least! The actors reminded me of watching a high school drama class prepping for a show for the kids. The story line had the potential of being a great show but the amateur props and acting killed it.

Don't listen to the trolls and bullies!

Ever heard of the adage "if you have nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all"? Well that goes for so many negative, jealous, mean-spirited people in this world. You will find that in characters on this show who make you want to beat them up, but you shouldn't resort to their level when they persecute you. That's the gist of what I'm getting from this show, it dedicates itself to exposing the bullies out there. Great stuff!

Not just another post-apocalyptic(Zombie) show

Not just another post-apocalyptic(Zombie) show. The characters are real and the mystery of what happened is absolutely intriguing. This is an entertaining multi genre show. A fun blend of action, science fiction, drama, and some comedy as well. It goes to show that a great show doesn't need a huge budget to be successful.

Progressively good story arcs!

Love the way this show keeps getting better every single time, every episode, and season to season! Without a budget too? How's that even possible, right? These volunteers have a lot of passion and talent. Looks like some of them are doing some other great things either in Hollywood or the independent world. The writing progressively keeps up the ante to a climax in the season 2 finale with explosive moments and action with some tear-jerk ones here. I'm a forever fan! Can't wait to see the new third season, looks like major changes and surprises.
