UK Film Fest News: Biff 2013 Announces Bradford After Dark Lineup
Running this April 11th-21st in conjunction with Virgin Media, the 19th Bradford International Film Festival has announced a rather impressive lineup of genre offerings to populate their "Bradford After Dark" programme. Check it out right here!

From the Press Release:

Bradford After Dark, the festival's home of the creepy, the bizarre and the fantastic, returns to Biff with a handpicked selection of horrifying delights to keep you awake at night. Each of this year's After Dark films (selected by programmer Robert Nevitt) has something slightly different to offer those who seek out the darker side of cinema.

With treats including several unhealthy doses of satanic panic, an alphabetised guidebook of doom and a film best described as a waking nightmare, this year's selection embodies the best of contemporary genre cinema: brave, courageous filmmaking from some of the world's hottest genre talents.

2013 Bradford International Film Festival: Official Film List
The Bradford International Film Festival is typically an underground-friendly fest. This year appears to be no exception with two very special experimental film retrospectives, as well as a few modern underground-type flicks.

The 19th annual Biff will roll on April 11-21 at several locations around Bradford and Leeds in England, including the National Media Museum, Hebden Bridge Picture House, Hyde Park Picture House and other venues.

Biff is hosting a tribute to Stan Brakhage this year by screening the prolific filmmaker’s magnum opus, Dog Star Man, as well as a selection of his short films, from 1963′s legendary Mothlight to 1994′s Black Ice. There’s also going to be an epic-sized tribute/retrospective of experimental films from Austria, a country with a proud avant-garde filmmaking tradition that’s typically overlooked.

From Austria, Biff is, of course, screening two works from one of the experimental film world’s biggest masters,...

Watch ‘The 3 Rs,’ aka David Lynch’s Kooky Trailer For the 2011 Vienna Film Festival
David Lynch
Last week a new piece of film arrived from David Lynch. Like much of his recent film work, it is a commercial, but in this case it's a commercial for something closely related to movies. The 70-second film, The 3 Rs, is a trailer for the 2011 Vienna International Film Festival. This is a weird, possibly amusing little stopgap piece that channels the spirit of Lynch's paintings and absurdist humor. Since it seems unlikely that we'll get any new narrative features from Lynch in the near future, those of us who enjoy his output will have to make do with this. The ad comes via Mubi [1]. Not quite a patch on Lynch's best one-minute, film, Premonition Following An Evil Deed from the Lumiere and Company omnibus [2] in 1995. But it'll do, I guess. Here's the Lumiere film. The cool thing about this is that it was produced with a replica of the...

New Moving Images From David Lynch!
The 3 Rs (2011)
The last moving images we saw from David Lynch involved a "Red Button Man" and Interpol. We're getting a little closer to movie territory with Lynch's trailer for the Vienna Film Festival -- affectionately dubbed the Viennale -- which functions more as an abstract short film than a trailer.

Each year, the Viennale asks a respected filmmaker to create a trailer for their showcase, and from the looks of Lynch's, there are no ground rules here. The trailers have a history of being somewhat conceptual, but Lynch's, titled "The 3 Rs," is unsurprisingly the most disturbing in recent years. We find ourselves, as we often do with Lynch, in a world where nothing is as it should be -- numbers lose their meaning and sounds emerge from places they should not emerge from.

Past years' trailers have included Apichatpong Weerasethakul's ("Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives") "Empire,...
