'Women in Blue' Face Insubordination & Suspension in Episode 3 Sneak Peek [Exclusive]
Image
Trouble is brewing for the titular Women in Blue of Apple TV+'s new Spanish-language crime drama. The series debuted last week with two episodes that introduced the Azules, four women who were a part of Mexico's first female police force in 1970, as they get their feet under them as newly anointed officers. After realizing their hiring was all a publicity stunt by the department to quell the public outcry as a serial killer continued to target women unhindered, the women are determined to rise above their ultra-conservative environment, corrupt superiors, and disapproving family members. However, in a new sneak peek of Episode 3, which Collider can exclusively share, their journey may be cut short as their attempts at catching the killer draw the ire of those above them.

Women in Blue Review: Pioneering Protagonists Power Persevering Police Procedural
Image
In the male-dominated world of 1970s Mexico City, change is in the air when the nation’s first all-female police unit begins patrolling the streets. Las Azules, or Women in Blue as it’s known internationally, introduces four formidable women blazing a trail in law enforcement: Mara, Gabina, Ngeles, and Valentina. Each one brings her own motivation for joining the force, from Mara’s personal vendetta to the expectations weighing on Gabina as the daughter of a distinguished officer.

Standing in their way are the deeply entrenched systems of sexism governing not just the police department but society as a whole. To their superiors, the women represent little more than a publicity stunt. But underneath the placating smiles and casual disrespect, a killer is on the loose, targeting young girls. Drawing on their unique skills and empathy, the pioneering officers secretly embark on their own investigation independent of the male-dominated force.

‘Women In Blue’ Episode 2 Recap & Ending Explained: What Did Maria Find Out About The Undresser?
Image
The Apple TV series Women in Blue is a testament to the amount of oppression and discrimination a woman had to bear to get what rightfully belonged to them. A killer was on the loose who, as we saw in episode 1, was brutally murdering innocent women. The police department came up with a strategy to distract the general public and save their reputation. An all-women police force was created, but the entire system did not expect anything out of them. They wanted the women to stand on the sidelines so that a fake picture could be painted that the department believed in gender equality. Little did they know that the “incompetent” and “weak” fragments of society would become their strength, and the gender stereotypes would be shattered into pieces. So, let’s find out what happened in episode 2 and what the Women in Blue had to face on their first day in office.

Bárbara Mori, Ximena Sariñana, Amorita Rasgado, and Natalia Téllez in Las Azules (2024)
Set in 1970 and inspired by true events, Women in Blue (Las Azules) tells the story of four women who defy the ultraconservative norms of the time and join Mexico’s very first female police force, only to discover that their squad is a publicity stunt to distract the media from a brutal serial killer.

As the body count grows, María (Bárbara Mori), whose determination to catch the killer becomes somewhat of an obsession, Gabina (Amorita Rasgado), whose father is a renowned cop, Ángeles (Ximena Sariñana), a brilliant fingerprint analyst, and Valentina (Natalia Téllez), a young rebel, set up a secret investigation to achieve what no male officer has been able to do and bring the serial killer to justice.

‘Women In Blue’ Episode 1 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Is The Undresser?
Image
Women In Blue, the AppleTV+’s new Spanish language show is inspired by true events from 1971, but it’s something that feels poignantly relevant even today. In 1971, when a serial killer took over the Mexican capital, to divert attention from the failing police force, the government decided to start a new campaign for the recruitment of female police officers. What these women don’t know is that the terrifying boot camp and the hard work and effort they’re putting in are all for naught because this is all merely a publicity ruse to save face. Women In Blue mainly follows four women: a pair of sisters, a woman who comes from a family of officers, and a woman who is simply looking to earn some money. While each of these women has unique reasons to join the force, eventually they have one goal only: to find this killer.

'Women in Blue' Review - Apple TV+'s Stylish Crime Drama Is Best When It's Soapy
Image
Theres something about having four very different women band together and form a friendship. The Golden Girls, Girls, Sex and the City, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Pretty Little Liars, The Girls on the Bus the list goes on. Its a tried-and-true formula that works just about every time, and Im happy to report that Apple TV+'s Women in Blue is no exception. If you've ever watched Law & Order: Svu and wished the entire team was full of Olivia Bensons, thats essentially what Women in Blue is selling. Taking place in 1970 (which gives the show's aesthetic a Mad Men feel a huge compliment) and inspired by true events, Women in Blue closely follows four of the sixteen women who join Mexicos first female police force. Unfortunately, they soon discover that the creation of the program isnt to be inclusive but rather to distract the public from the...
