With the Multiverse Saga nearing it's end with Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, the next saga is already close. With Disney's acquisition of Fox and it's rights to Marvel characters like the X-Men, it is likely the next Saga will focus on the mutants. It could be named The Mutant Saga, but if the Phoenix Force comes into play The Phoenix Saga would be an apt title as well. However, the world of the MCU is also still occupied by the Avengers and other superheroes. So, here's a look at what the trilogies, titles and release dates could look like.
Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps
The next Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), follows a street-level Spider-Man as he bonds with the piece of Venom and faces off against the likes of Mr. Negative, while also dealing The Punisher. All while trying to balance that life with his new college carreer.

Even though Marvel and Disney+ are all in on Riri Williams / Ironheart, they haven't fully compensated the team that created the breakout character. Debuting in May 2016, Ironheart was created by Ultimate Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, marking her first appearance in Invincible Iron Man Vol. 3 #7. In less than a decade since she was created, Riri Williams has been featured in the animated series Marvel Rising and debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, setting up her own solo series set to debut on Disney+ in June 2025.
Ironheart co-creator Mike Deodato took to Instagram before the debut of the Disney+ trailer to share his mixed response to seeing his work adapted. In the post, he highlighted how the trailer recreates one of the scenes he drew from the comics, saying, "As a comic book artist, there are few feelings more satisfying than seeing...

Kitty Pryde has played many different roles among the X-Men; she's never even settled on a single code-name, going from Sprite to Ariel to Shadowcat to Red Queen. During the X-Men's time on the mutant island of Krakoa, she became a pirate captain, sailing the high seas to rescue mutant refugees for the Hellfire Trading Company.
Now in the new ongoing "Exceptional X-Men" by Dr. Eve Ewing and artist Carmen Carnero, Kitty is back in her (and Ewing's) hometown of Chicago. When the comic began, Kitty had decided to put world saving behind her and was working as a bartender. But she found young Mutants in need of guidance, and stepped up with her old enemy-turned-friend Emma Frost to teach them.

Wolverine is by far one of the most recognizable mutants in the Marvel Universe, and that's partly due to his Adamantium-laced skeleton and his iconic claws. While his skeleton has been upgraded recently, the next planned update to his claws might just be his biggest yet.
Considering just how old Wolverine is, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Marvel has played with his looks and abilities a lot over the years. Recently, the upgraded Wolverine's Adamantium skeleton with a new metal known as Adamantine, also known as the Metal of the Gods. As of Wolverine #5 by Saladin Ahmed and Martin Coccolo, it seems that Adamantine will bond itself to Wolverine's claws and skeleton, completely changing and empowering the character. Even worse, the synopsis implies that Adamantine isn't just a metal.
Most recently, readers saw Wolverine battle against Lady Deathstrike and Constrictor, both seemingly possessed by Adamantine, with glowing yellow eyes... the...

Having been given the label of a ladies' man, Gambit has had numerous love interests over the years - with varying degrees of commitment. Some love interests have been blink-and-you'll-miss-it, while other love interests are so hardcore for Remy Labeau that he risks his life for them. Likewise, there are some love interests of the Cajun that Marvel fans know by heart, like Rogue and Bella Donna.
On the flip side, there are quite a few Gambit love interests who have flown a little under the radar and deserve a little more recognition. From the very dramatic stops and starts for Rogue and Gambit to the crush he had on a British police officer, one thing can be said about Gambit's love life: it is never boring.

The newest member of the Avengers has officially been confirmed, in the form of Elektra's Daredevil. Ever since reuniting with his former lover in her on-panel comic debut, Matt Murdock has been trying to redeem the former assassin. Now it seems confirmed that her recent adoption of the title and role of Daredevil, the Woman Without Fear marked the official transition from Elektra being a conflicted anti-hero, to a full-blown superhero.

On September 9, 2024, Eisner Award winning comic artist John Cassaday passed away at the too-young age of 52. He was widely mourned by his industry peers and fans, who never worked with or met Cassaday, have lost any new fruits of his great talent. Before he became an artist, Cassaday studied film in college. Once you know that, his drawing style really clicks into place. Cassaday often drew huge images (both in wide and standard panels), the kind a movie screen demands, and his characters had detailed, photorealistic faces. It's no surprise he broke into comics during the mid-90s, when that style was taking off. If I could compare his work to a fellow artist, it would be Bryan Hitch.
Just as Hitch broke out working with writer Warren Ellis on "The Authority," Cassaday teamed with Ellis for the series "Planetary," published at WildStorm (a DC publishing imprint) from 1999 to 2009 across 27 issues.

Kevin Feige may be president of Marvel Studios today, but he got his start in movie producing the first "X-Men" film in 2000. During "X-Men," Feige was one of the biggest Marvel Comics fans on the crew; he smuggled "X-Men" comics to the actors after director Bryan Singer banned them from the set. I'm sure Feige appreciates his time working on 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies (there must be a reason Marvel Studios has been trying to fit them in rather than doing a clean break), but he's steered the MCU in a more colorful direction.
At a press conference for "Deadpool & Wolverine" not too long ago, Feige mentioned one long-standing controversy among comic nerds: how "X-Men" put the heroes in dull black leather costumes instead of the colorful comic book suits. Feige confirmed, as has long been suggested, that these costume designs were trend-chasing "The Matrix". Feige recounted,...

Well-known comic book artist John Cassaday has died at the age of 52. Star Wars fans may recognize some of his work from the early days of new canon Marvel comics in 2015.
Before working on Star Wars, Cassaday began his career as an artist for independent comics publishers. His career took off when he started drawing for Marvel and DC Comics, particularly with his work on Teen Titans and Flash.
His work on Astonishing X-Men, Planetary, and I Am Legion: The Dancing Faun won him the Eisner Award (basically the comics version of an Academy Award) for Best Penciller/Inker in 2005. He won the award again in 2006, along with the Eisner Award for Best Ongoing Series for Astonishing X-Men.

John Cassaday, Artist on Joss Whedon’s ‘Astonishing X-Men’ and Co-Creator of ‘Planetary,’ Dies at 52
John Cassaday, the artist who co-created the influential turn-of-the-century comic Planetary and then drew an award-winning X-Men comic written by Joss Whedon for Marvel, has died. He was 52.
His sister Robin Cassaday announced his death Monday on Facebook. She previously wrote that he had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Mount Sinai West in New York on Sept. 3. The cause of death was not revealed.
Cassaday also drew the relaunch of Star Wars that became the best-selling comic of 2015.
“Like [fellow artists] Neal Adams, Jim Steranko or Michael Golden, he is a touchstone, a reference point to the dozens and dozens of artists whose work was influenced by his,” comics writer and editor Mark Waid said. “Most people are lucky if more than a dozen people are still talking about them a month after they pass. My friend John will be talked about and remembered by an entire industry for ages.

Iconic comic artist John Cassaday - the unmistakable talent whose art appeared in Planetary, Astonishing X-Men and Star Wars - has died at the age of 52. The creator's passing was confirmed on Facebook by his sister Robin Cassaday, who writes, "My little bro John passed away at 5:51pm Texas time. Please keep me and my mom in your prayers."
Cassaday's unique art is identifiable to comic fans at a glance, and the creator contributed to iconic series including Captain America, Lone Ranger and Hellboy: Weird Tales. Cassaday was a multi-time Eisner Award winner who worked with Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse and more.
Comic creators were quick to pay tribute to Cassaday, acknowledging both his talent as an artist, impact on comics as an art form, and close personal ties. Batman writer Scott Snyder wrote that "the impact of John Cassaday's work on myself and the whole industry is indelible.

It's been confirmed today that prolific comic book artist John Cassaday has died aged just 52. Details are scarce as we write this, though we know he was admitted to the ICU at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York last week.
His sister shared the news of his passing in a Facebook post that read, "My little bro John passed away at 6:51pm Texas time. Please keep me and my mom in your prayers."
Cassaday began his career in the mid-1990s working on Image Comics titles like Gen¹³ and Wetworks. However, we're sure many of you will know him best for his contributions to the Marvel Universe where he redesigned Captain America (with a look that heavily inspired the MCU) and his work alongside Joss Whedon on the critically acclaimed Astonishing X-Men.
The latter series redefined the characters and Cassaday's work was a massive part of that.

Charlie Brown is a mutant X-Man in Marvel Comics canon, with unspecified powers. The original Peanuts comic strip may offer clues as to what Charlie Brown's powers may be. Charlie Brown's meta-impact led to his cameo in X-Men, but his impact on the comic book community stretches beyond that, as he may have even inspired DC's Kite-Man.

The animated X-Men are about to make their return to TV in "X-Men '97." This Disney+ series is basically a thirty-year-late sixth season of 1992's "X-Men," the first cartoon about the Marvel Comics superhero team.

The upcoming Ultimate X-Men series focuses on young mutant Armor growing up in Japan, adding the horrors of adolescence to the mix. Peach Momoko, the writer and artist, was given a lot of creative freedom by Marvel and doesn't have to tie her story to the other Ultimate Universe series. Momoko chose Armor as her main character because she sees her as a girl in her own shell, always protecting her own bubble and struggling to fit into the world.
Editors Note: Peach Momoko’s answers were translated from Japanese with the help of her husband and manager, Yo Mutsu, and have been lightly edited with permission for clarity.

The origins of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" begin with the X-Men. A young Joss Whedon read their comic adventures, penned by Chris Claremont, and cites them as an influence on his work; teen heroine Buffy Summers herself is in the vein of Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat.
From 2004 to 2008, Whedon wrote the ongoing comic "Astonishing X-Men," teaming up with artist John Cassaday. Consider the timeframe: "Buffy" and "Angel" had wrapped as classics, "Firefly" was a freshly canceled-too-soon martyr, and Whedon hadn't cracked into the blockbuster movie mainstream with "The Avengers" yet, and allegations of his abusive behavior on set hadn't yet been publicized. His writing an "X-Men" comic felt like nerdy stars aligning.

First debuting in 2004's Astonishing X-Men #4, Hisako Ichiki is a powerful and unique character, who has been underutilized during the Krakoan Era.

Nightcrawler sacrifices himself to save Hope Summers from the powerful and little-known villain Bastian, who impales Nightcrawler through the chest. Cyclops allows himself to be killed by nameless Breakworld fighters in a moment of self-sacrifice to stop a threat to Earth, showing that even powerful X-Men can fall to Z-list villains.
The X-Men is one of the most formidable superhero teams in Marvel Comics history, though even they aren’t invincible. Over the years, more than a few members of the mutant militant force have been killed in action.
While some of those deaths were heroic and well-earned, with only the most prominent and powerful supervillains in their rogue’s gallery being able to do them in, a number of X-Men were killed by villains who...

Thanks to his incredible strength, resilience, and healing factor, Hulk typically faces off with powerhouse characters like the Thing and Juggernaut, and yet X-Men's Cyclops is strong enough to give him a run for his money. The full force of Scott Summers' optic blasts is rarely unleashed, and yet to protector his mentor Charles Xavier, Cyclops unleashed everything he had against the Hulk.
In World War Hulk: X-Men #2 by Christos Gage, Andrea Di Vito, Laura Villari, and Joe Caramagna, Hulk arrives at the mutant school to make Xavier pay for the Illuminati voting to send him into space, even though Charles wasn't actually present for the decision. He's ready to surrender to Hulk's justice, but the X-Men have other ideas and launch an attack. As the battle begins, Scott warns his team, "Everyone back! I'm going to max power!" before using a concussive blast so powerful it begins...

“What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” When James Marsden’s Cyclops delivered that line in 2000’s X-Men, we all got the joke. The yellow spandex sported by Wolverine and other members of Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants could never look cool in a live-action movie, which is why the black leather costumes made more sense. But even the most understanding movie-goer couldn’t help but feel a slight pang at the quip. “Yeah,” we thought to ourselves. “We would prefer Wolverine in yellow spandex.”
According to a recently-released photo from Deadpool 3, fans are finally getting their wish. We’ve long known that the third Deadpool movie will bring the Merc with a Mouth from the Fox movie universe where he began, over to the MCU. And we’ve also known that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would be coming along for the ride, the character’s first appearance in the MCU.

A new clip from the upcoming Disney+ mini series “Secret Invasion” was released online Thursday, and in addition to the espionage-related paranoia and suspicion featured in the clip itself, it also gave fans a chance to do some spycraft of their own just to watch the thing.
The clip — what feels like an entire scene from the show, featuring Martin Freeeman as ex-CIA agent Everett Ross — wasn’t posted to YouTube or on Twitter. Instead, Marvel Studios’ official Twitter account asked fans to decipher a mystery board that revealed a password to the site “theinvasionhasbegun.com,” allowing them to unlock an “encrypted” file on the site.

There aren’t many mutants who can boast that they can defeat Wolverine by effectively rendering his healing factor totally useless, but one extreme ‘90s X-Men member is one of those mutants.
James “Logan” Howlett aka Wolverine was born with a number of mutant abilities including heightened, animalistic senses, retractable claws that extend from his knuckles, and a healing factor–and while the claws may seem like the most useful aspect of his mutation in terms of battle scenarios, it’s his healing factor that stands above the other powers. Not only does it heal practically any injury Wolverine sustains, but it also slows his aging process to the point where, in one reality, Wolverine was still alive more than a century after his time fighting alongside the X-Men–which, itself, was more than a century after he was born. This means that even time itself can’t...

Famed comic book artist Joe Madureira has finally announced a continuation of his hit series Battle Chasers, with issue #10 set to release this June from Image Comics. While the creator is known for the long interim periods between books, the wait period will have been nearly 22 years from issue #9. With a hiatus like that, not even Saga's three-and-a-half year hiatus can hold a candle.
Battle Chasers first released in 1998 from WildStorm Productions, which was still under indie management in the period before it was bought by DC the following year. Centered around a band of quirky magical questers, including Gully, a young girl who has inherited a set of magic gauntlets, a polite and helpful war golem named Calibretto whose very existence is outlawed, and brooding loner Garrison, who desires to be left alone. Being pursued by wizards, werewolves and all manner of magical menaces, this seemingly quaint concept...

The timeline for a successful video game franchise usually goes like this: The game comes out and soon becomes popular among players. Avid fans start creating content inspired by the game and their favorite characters, helping bring that IP into pop culture. There might be a movie or TV adaptation. And as more people are introduced to the game’s world, more fans are created, leading to more demand for derivative content. Et cetera, et cetera.
But the leaders at Liithos, a multimedia gaming studio led by former PlayStation executives, are about to do things a little differently with their first studio IP, Ashfall, which is set in a post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest ravaged by climate change, civilian fighting and mutations caused by a dark energy. The series follows Ash Naranjo, a character who was born without arms and is given cyborg-like implants to help him save his family and homeland.

Wolverine #21 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Adam Kubert | Colourist: Frank Martin | Letters: Cory Petit
Wolverine continues to reject Deadpool’s over enthusiastic X-Force audition. But as the pair find themselves at loggerheads the net is closing in on them, from one side comes Danger and from the other a double/double cross.
While I did have some personal ups and downs with the previous issue, it did have a great cliffhanger and in my opinion this issue didn’t capitalize on it. I think this in part was due to the non-linear storytelling approach. I am all for Deadpool in the Wolverine series, but maybe him leading the narration, scribbling over the credits page and having the text page from Weasel is all a bridge too far? The fact that Percy does address Deadpool’s more than central role via the fourth wall breaking perhaps indicates he has pushed it as far as he possibly can.

This article contains spoilers for WandaVision episodes one and two.
Now that WandaVision is finally streaming on Disney+, Marvel fans have plenty of questions about what’s really going on in the MCU spinoff series, and we’re here to help!
In the opening two episodes of WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her beloved Vision (Paul Bettany) settle down in the quaint town of Westview to start a new chapter of their lives amidst various amusing sitcom tropes. The familiar black and white aesthetic from TV past creates an upbeat tone for Scarlet Witch and the previously extremely dead Vision to play cutesy games of husband and wife, but there is also a creeping presence from outside this strange new reality, one that is determined to break through Wanda’s fourth wall – that of Sword.

It’s been a difficult few months for the comics industry, as Covid-19 has virtually brought distribution to a halt, and put many stores at risk of permanent closure. With the main distributor Diamond unable to supply comics, it’s been a stressful time for fans and those running businesses, regardless of size. However, Marvel Comics have now announced that they’re planning to start releasing new issues from Wednesday, May 27th, in what should hopefully be a resumption of some kind of normalcy to the industry.
While it doesn’t seem like Marvel will jump straight back into shipping out its full schedule for distribution, there will be at least some individual titles and trades from the end of May. And here are the books that Marvel are currently aiming to put out on the 27th:
Amazing Spider-man #43 (FEB200924)
Avengers #33 (FEB200982)
Marauders #10 (FEB200894)

It's no secret that it's a great time to be a fan of superhero storytelling. The biggest, most expensive movies in the world are about superheroes, and we're getting to a point in comic book adaptation culture that even some of the medium's more obscure characters are making their way onto TV screens.
But we don't talk enough about how the trend has spilled over into fiction. From Sarah Kuhn's Heroine Complex series to V.E. We’re a ways away from seeing the X-Men on the big screen again, but this epic concept art could give us an idea of how much the wait will be worth it. Former Disney visual artist Jason Pastrana has shared his latest piece – seen down below – which imagines how three of mutantkind’s finest heroes could look given a Marvel Studios twist.
The image captures Wolverine, Cyclops and Storm in the heat of battle with a bunch of Sentinels. One thing fans really hope from the McU’s X-Men is that they’ll wear their classic outfits, particularly Wolverine, and that’s exactly what Pastrana’s delivered in his artwork. It appears that he’s based Logan and Scott Summers’ costumes on John Cassaday’s designs from the Astonishing X-Men comics, while Storm seems to be sporting her 80s-style mohawk.

With the rights having reverted to them after Disney’s Fox buyout, Marvel Studios will soon be rebooting the X-Men within the McU. Kevin Feige confirmed as much during the Phase 4 announcement at July’s Comic-Con. However, it’s still early stages so all we’ve got to go on right now are rumors and reports about what Marvel might do with the mutants currently in their care. The latest intel though points to the studio turning to an old collaborator to relaunch the franchise.
According to CosmicBookNews, who’ve been supplied the info by scoopster Mikey Sutton, Joss Whedon is being eyed to helm the McU’s X-Men reboot. Whedon hasn’t worked with the studio since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, but this rumor says that Marvel’s considering the writer/director for the all-important project. Easy to forget now, but for a period in the early 1980′s to early 1990′s you could forget The Avengers, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Cap, it was all about Wolverine and the X-Men. You had Byrne and Claremont’s groundbreaking run, then Claremont with a fistful of top artists like Jim Lee. Seemingly the Sun could never set on Professor X and his students. But it did, and we had many years of convoluted continuity, the invention of new but lacklustre mutants, the ‘no more mutants’ moment and more. Sure there were a few bright spots. A change is coming to the Astonishing X-Men in the form of a new line-up – and an all-new creative team! Writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Greg Land (The Incredible Hulk) will take over the series starting with issue #13! And they’re taking Beast, Dazzler, Colossus, Havok and Warpath on a new and exciting adventure in a brand-new X-Men story.
“We’re taking a slightly different approach to our X-Men on this team,” Rosenberg teased to Marvel. “The reasons they are together and what their mission is means that they are playing a role in the Marvel Universe that the X-Men haven’t played in a while.”

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Astonishing X-Men #7 by Charles Soule and Phil Noto, in stores now.
Writer Charles Soule’s Astonishing X-Men has featured some of the biggest mutant names on the team’s roster, from Psylocke and Old Man Logan to Mystique, Rogue and Archangel — and that’s just for starters. The series has been a showcase for a genuinely epic X-Men adventure, with things turning deadly for one X-Man in particular when the Shadow King revealed himself as the main villain of the first arc.

1.4 eXit Strategy
There are certain tropes that are nearly universal in every effective X-Men story. The good ones are always full of soapy non-mutant backstories, melodramatic romance subplots, and visually interesting applications of powers. The longer The Gifted goes on, the more confident I am that the folks making it think the same things. This week's episode, eXit strategy, hit all four to great effect.
First and foremost, this was an action episode. The whole plot centred on breaking up a convoy carrying Reed Strucker and Polaris to a Sentinel Services black site to rescue them. We also got a look into Eclipse's background, and his history with a cartel boss's daughter; and follow...
