Showtime capped off a busy week of pilot casting by landing a pair of Emmy winners to topline its drama pilot "Billions." Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis will star in the pilot, which will shoot in New York City in early 2015. Written by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin, "Billions" is described a fictional drama that "takes a forensic look at the world of high finance by tracking the approaching collision between two titanic figures." Those figures are U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhodes (Giamatti) and hedge fund king Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Lewis). Showtime also announced that Neil Burger ("Limitless") has signed on to direct the pilot. An Oscar nominee for "Cinderella Man," Giamatti has been making an aggressive push into TV in recent years. The "John Adams" Emmy winner earned Emmy nods for HBO's "Too Big to Fail" and earlier this year for "Downton Abbey." While FX opted...

Anchor Bay Entertainment will be releasing the directorial debut from Malek Akkad, titled Free Fall, onto DVD & Blu-ray on October 28th. I know very little about this film, other than what was just made available with the press release that just went out. Malek Akkad, if you are unfamiliar, is the man that produces all things Halloween as his birth right. That doesn’t mean he will be a great director, but here’s hoping, right? Check out the press release below, and click here to pre-order your copy.

Homeland star Damian Lewis is finalizing a deal to star opposite Nicole Kidman in Werner Herzog's Queen of the Desert, according to Deadline. Lewis would play Lieutenant Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie, an unhappy British war hero who has a torrid affair with archeologist, cartographer, writer, and political attache Gertrude Bell (Kidman) until his death in World War I. Lewis played a Civil War general in To Appomattox, a World War II soldier in Band of Brothers, and of course plays a former Marine on Homeland. He just has a military-ish face, apparently.

William Petersen is taking his first steps toward a return to television.
The Emmy-nominated CSI vet (who left the CBS series in 2009, after nine years) is set to star in and executive-produce Hurt People, a drama series in development at Gk-tv, a production company launched by Camelot EPs Graham King and Tim Headington.
The hour-long project centers on Hollis Brown (Petersen), a veteran hitman who is actually employed by the crime family responsible for killing his wife. In an even bigger twist, he’s been enlisted to hunt down his estranged daughter, who is hellbent on destroying those responsible for her mother’s death.

I’ll give you a second to read that headline again so you know that the next few paragraphs are not written in stone. In a report from The Sun (via Slashfilm), they suggest that former ER co-stars George Clooney and Noah Wyle are in competition for the role of Apple-icon Steve Jobs for a biopic by Sony. While there is no factual evidence to support this, Wyle did once portray Jobs in the TV biography Pirates of Silicon Valley and Clooney is being courted to play in almost everything. Rumor or not, Sony is definitely anxious to get production moving on the biopic and is banking on Aaron Sorkin to pen the script. Hit the jump for more on this project. While Clooney certainly has the chops to play the role, I can’t imagine he’d give up that Hollywood hair to more adequately portray Jobs. Perhaps, since we’re talking crazy anyway,...
