“Why War” is both the title of Amos Gitai’s latest and a question that has long been on the director’s mind — one he has tried to answer with works like “A Letter to a Friend in Gaza” and “West of the Jordan River.” However, this seemingly direct confrontation of the query takes a roundabout path, resulting in a movie about helplessness, frustration and intellectual debate in the face of military conflict. It is based, in part, on written correspondences between Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud, and takes an experimental, meta-fictional form, though its images can’t help but feel trepidatious, if not entirely without purpose.
Through staged scenes of battles from antiquity (one of which appears to be the First Jewish-Roman War), Gitai paves a fiery path for his rumination, though his methodology quickly proves too broad for his subject matter. Early in its runtime, the film features...

Anyone who’s familiar with the popular YouTube channel Epic Rap Battles of History can decide for themselves whether Boba Fett has beaten the Merc with a Mouth in the realm of spitting rhymes, but Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld seems confident that his own character would come out on top in physical combat.
The writer and comic book artist pleaded his case for Wade Wilson in this hypothetical smackdown during an interview with The Star Wars Show, saying the following:
“Oh my gosh, okay, one of the greatest fights you’d ever see, right? But you can’t beat Deadpool. You just can’t. I stole Wolverine’s healing factor, Marvel let me. I’m like, ‘Hey, can I make that he was part of the Weapon X thing and can he have…yeah, okay, yeah, I can do that? Click.’ There may be this other character, a Caped Crusader,...

It’s been nearly four months since the last Epic Rap Battles of History episode, and If you’re jonesing for a fix, that show’s co-creator has a new web series out that just might be the next best thing. Lloyd Ahlquist, known online as EpicLLOYD, has shared the first four episodes of Epic Studios on his personal YouTube channel.
Epic Studios stars Ahlquist as a man who inherits a dilapidated studio from his deceased rock star father. Upon arriving in Toronto to check out the facility, Ahlquist finds he’ll have a lot of work to do if he wants to bring Epic Studios to a respectable place. Each episode of his saga is accompanied by its own musical number, with frequent Erb collaborator Zach Sherwin contributing to the songwriting team. In the premiere, for example, Ahlquist laments not googling Epic Studios before agreeing to take it over.

Thanks to his work on Epic Rap Battles of History (Erb), Lloyd Ahlquist can say that he co-created one of the most esteemed, awarded, and successful web series of all time. Now, he has another show to add to his portfolio. Ahlquist has shared the trailer for Epic Studios, a musical comedy that will arrive on his EpicLLOYD YouTube channel on April 26th.
In Epic Studios, Ahlquist portrays the inheritor of a recording space who must work together with his ragtag group of employees to keep the business afloat. Along the way, viewers can expect several elements that are also hallmarks of Erb, as Epic Studios is also a blend of music, comedy, and delightfully low-budget green-screen effects. As its trailer shows, its 13 episodes will include 13 new music videos, with Ahlquist showing off his lyrical chops as well as his acting skills.

Four years ago, the web series Epic Rap Battles of History released an election-themed showdown between Barack Obama against Mitt Romney. The episode ended up being the most successful edition of Erb to date; its 124 million views top all other videos on the popular YouTube channel and the traffic it generated as a single allowed Erb creators “Nice Peter” Shukoff and “EpicLloyd” Ahlquist to hang with the likes of Jay-z and Ludacris on Spotify’s most-shared list.
So naturally, with another big vote on the horizon, Erb brought the two presidential candidates into its ring and had them spit bars in one another’s direction. Shukoff and Ahlquist have premiered the 2016 election edition of Erb, with Ahlquist starring as Donald Trump and Kimmy Gatewood taking on the role of Hillary Clinton. For the sixth time, the Streamy Awards will honor the best content the online video industry has to offer. Tubefilter and Dick Clark Productions’ annual awards show has announced its 2016 nominees, and the field is led by perennial winner Epic Rap Battles of History and newcomer Oscar’s Hotel For Fantastical Creatures, both of which earned four nominations.

In March, The Television Academy revealed its decision to expand the Emmy Awards to include several short-form categories. The big winners from that announcement were digital content producers, who gained the ability to have some awards season representation of their own.
Now, the 2016 Emmy nominations have been announced, and the shows that made the cut in the short-form categories include a mix of linear TV series, digital companions to TV offerings, and, in historic fashion, web series like Honest Trailers and Epic Rap Battles of History (Erb).

Screaming tweens. Boy bands singing Drake. People talking to video cameras. VidCon, the annual convention for all things YouTube, vlogging, and digital media, is certainly a sight to behold. The term “content creator” is rarely thrown around quite so often as it was in the hallways of the Anaheim Convention Center last weekend. If one thing is certain, digital culture is a lot more advanced than it was a few years ago. What can we surmise from VidCon about the future of the industry that has better numbers than the views on “David After Dentist?” This is real life for the digital age.
The Freshmen Online Stars Are All Grown Up
Grace Helbig, Jenna Marbles, and Hannah Hart each began vlogging in 2008, 2010, and 2011, respectively. In Internet years, they’re ancient. Now, they’re credited with shaping the style and creating a language for a form of digital media that is now over ten years old.

Since its launch in 2005, YouTube has been the principal destination for online video. It started as a place to laugh at post-dental surgery children and Japanese cats more famous than you will ever be, and has turned into a platform for creators of all stripes to connect with diverse audiences. The platform’s influence seems to grow exponentially; as its audience matures, so does its creative reach. Now in its sixth year, VidCon is a conference that celebrates all that online video has to offer. IndieWire will be on the ground. Here are five reasons we’re excited to be there.

This year’s Primetime Emmy Awards will feature an expanded slate of short form categories, and with the awards show’s voting period now open, digital media companies are looking to cash in. In particular, online video network Maker Studios, which produces some of the most popular web series on YouTube and beyond, recently made its Emmys pitch with a full-page “for your consideration” ad in the print version of The Hollywood Reporter.
In its ad, Maker calls out several of the shows it has produced over the past year, including Scare PewDiePie, Pugatory, and long-running stalwart Epic Rap Battles of History. “Yo #emmys you around?” reads a post on the network’s Instagram feed. “For your consideration…”
The new categories, which include Outstanding Short Form Series — Variety, Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Series — Comedy or Drama, and Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Series — Comedy or Drama, seem like the perfect way to represent digital producers at the Emmys, but the Maker Studios’ and Fullscreens of the world will have plenty of competition. At the Creative Arts Emmys, for example, the Original Interactive Program category has tended to showcase a mix of digitally-native programs and online companions for TV shows.

Epic Rap Battles of History has James Bond facing off against Austin Powers. I used to be over these rap battle videos, but the production values and lyrics of the recent crop have gotten me back on board. I think the winner of this rap battle is Bond, James Bond.
Side note: I would love for them to do new Bond films as Cold War-period spy films. But with the flop of Man From U.N.C.L.E. I doubt that will happen.

Nine months after the conclusion of its fourth season, Epic Rap Battles of History is back. The popular web series has launched its fifth go-around with a showdown between fantasy authors past and present: In one corner, George R.R. Martin, author of Game of Thrones; in the other, J.R.R. Tolkien, the scribe behind Lord of the Rings.
The new episode is the latest example of Nice Peter and EpicLloyd’s winning formula. As in previous installments, the battle between Tolkien (played by Peter) and Martin (played by Lloyd) features savage disses, plentiful references to each author’s career, and, of course, elaborate costumes. Despite the fact that J.R.R Tolkien and George R.R. Martin elevated the Fantasy genre well above its typical mainstream inattention, there are still fans who must debate which is better. I'm not here to argue about any of that (feel free to in the comments), but I do want to share a surprisingly good Epic Rap Battles of History between the two authors! Honestly, it's hard to declare a winner in this one because both rap disses were equally strong and I was laughing through both!
By the way, while their literary works are up for debate, the Lord of The Rings video games are far superior to the Game of Thrones video games.

I'll start this off by saying I'm not typically a fan of Epic Rap Battles Of History, but damn this was good. Deadpool and Boba Fett square off in a rap battle that is brutal on both ends! The amount of truth behind the disses was almost too much to handle, and while Deadpool definitely shuts it down in the first half... Boba Fett makes a comeback. While this may not make me a fan of the series going forward, maybe I'll check out a few more based on this incredibly well-done episode.
