Almost seven years ago, it was announced that a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in development with Monica Owusu-Breen, co-creator of the TV show Midnight, Texas, writing, executive producing, and serving as showrunner. It was said that the new show would be “contemporary, building on the mythology of the original.” That project never made it into production – and earlier this year, it was revealed that we’re going to be getting a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival instead, with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning to the role of Buffy Summers and Chloé Zhao directing the first episode. Since then, teenage actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter) has been cast as a new slayer (an introverted high school student named Nova)… and now, filming is underway! Gellar has been spotted on the set of the pilot episode, and those images can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Update: Chase Sui Wonders has confirmed to Deadline that she is joining the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. “Sarah Michelle Geller is just such a force to be reckoned with,” Wonders said. “We became fast friends on I Know What You Did last Summer. She’s an incredible woman and just a cool person, and she asked me if I wanted to do it. Then she told me about Chloe Zhao directing and the Zuckermans showrunning. And then Eric Kissack, who is actually our editor on The Studio, is also editing the Buffy series.“
Wonders naturally wouldn’t reveal much about her character, who is believed to be named Shirley. The role is expected to be a one-off guest appearance, so don’t get too attached. “What I can say is that it’s a very fun way to enter this series, and [Gellar] is on set every day, from as...

UnPrisoned was cancelled after the release of only two seasons on Hulu. The streaming platform decided that UnPrisoned will not be returning for a third season, but did not release an official statement citing concrete reasons for doing so.
Neither Hulu nor anyone from the production team or cast has officially revealed the reasons for cancelling the show. The combined context, including strategic choices, perceived promotion issues, and industry norms, likely influenced the decision not to renew it for Season 3.
Season 2 concluded with Paige finally finding love with Mal when the latter showed up and admitted to having broken up with Ava because he still loves her. Edwin decides to move forward with his catering business and also has a heartfelt conversation with Finn. Just when the Alexander family was getting better, Paige’s biological mother showed up, complicating things once again.

It's not every day that we get to be excited about a new animated show, but now Nickelodeon is giving us just that. The series' look is distinct and exciting enough, but Collider is thrilled to exclusively reveal another element of the upcoming 2D-animated show that will be a standout: its soundtrack. This is best illustrated with the extended theme song, which you can check out in this article.

Disney’s Onyx Collective is looking to put a new spin on one of the most famous locales of early 2000s TV.
Onyx is developing Wisteria Lane, a spinoff/reimagining of ABC’s 2004-12 hit Desperate Housewives. The project comes from writer/executive producer Natalie Chaidez (The Flight Attendant, Queen of the South) and EP Kerry Washington. Should it go forward, Wisteria Lane would stream on Hulu alongside Onyx Collective’s other shows.
Like Desperate Housewives, Wisteria Lane will focus on a group of friends living on a seemingly picture-perfect cul de sac whose facade hides a boatload of secrets. Marc Cherry, who created Desperate Housewives, is not currently involved in the new project (though he has spoken about his own spinoff ideas in the past) but sources say he could come aboard in the future.

John Stamos got caught up in backlash after photos of him emceeing an event at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla., circulated online. The “Full House” star’s appearance confused fans, as he’s often supported Democratic policies in the past and even appeared to post in support of Kamala Harris during last year’s presidential election against Trump. Has Stamos suddenly gone Maga? Not so fast. The actor took to his Instagram to explain his appearance at Mar-a-Lago and stress that his “values and political views remain unchanged.”
“I accepted the invitation to emcee the Palm Beach Ray of Hope Gala, an evening dedicated to honoring and uplifting our frontline heroes,” Stamos wrote on his Instagram story. “This nonpartisan event supports The Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations, a 501(c)(3) organization that trains 350-400 nurses every year, directly addressing the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in Palm Beach County.

Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) is directing the creature feature, which showcases gigantic monsters and the humans caught in between.
Plot details from the David Callaham-written script are being kept under the Earth’s crust, but Legendary has said the story will feature “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”

“How to Die Alone,” the comedy series created by and starring Natasha Rothwell, has been canceled after one season on Hulu.
The series hailed from Onyx Collective, a Disney content brand that produces projects created by people of color and from underrepresented communities. Onyx gave “How to Die Alone” a series order in November of 2022 before releasing it in September 2024.
In a statement to Variety, Rothwell wrote that she is “shocked, heartbroken and frankly, baffled” at Onyx’s decision. Though a source close to the studio indicates that viewership wasn’t strong enough to renew “How to Die Alone,” Rothwell argues that it was “an undeniable critical, creative and award-winning success.” Indeed, the series achieved a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Variety‘s review calling it “skillfully crafted” and Rothwell’s performance “flawless.” It also won the Independent Spirit Award for ensemble cast in a new scripted series and has three...

Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from Monday’s midseason finale of NCIS: Origins on CBS.

TV cancellations aren’t close to America’s most pressing problem headed into 2025 — but in an uncertain year for the entertainment industry, premature endings in creative workplaces pack as big a punch as ever.
Major guild strikes ended last year and the streaming bubble burst from 2022 has given platforms at least some time to recover since. Still, the countless impacts of Hollywood’s faltering business model could be felt throughout episodic and feature productions as dwindling work continued to move away from traditional opportunity hubs in Los Angeles. As film scenes in other U.S. states and Canada benefited from decline in Southern California, the swan song of peak television experienced an ongoing decrease in new series getting greenlit and an uptick in single-season cancellations.
From network staples ending this year to streaming favorites wrapping it up soon, the titles not returning say as much about the state of the...

It’s been an 8-year journey for the directors of the documentary “Daughters” to reach the IndieWire Honors stage on Thursday, December 5 in Hollywood. Filmmakers Angela Patton and Natalie Rae have watched the film’s young subjects grow up and bear their souls, and in accepting the Magnify Award, they made sure to dedicate their prize to those young women.
“It’s an 8-year journey of young girls showing up to tell you their stories, their vulnerability, and they’re girls who have changed my life,” Patton said in her speech. “I hope that if you have not seen ‘Daughters’ that your perspective will change, that your life would change, and that you know that it is time, it is overdue to invest in Black girls and their resilience, because Black women can’t.”

Although Kerry Washington finds the fact that she’s receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame “surreal,” her father, Earl Washington, thinks she should’ve gotten a star a lot sooner.
“Anytime he would hear that somebody was getting one, he was like, ‘Why don’t you have one?’” Washington tells Variety, laughing as she recounts their conversations. “I was like, ‘I don’t know, Dad. I don’t make those decisions.’ So I feel like he’s manifested this moment. I’m excited that I get to share it with him.”
Washington’s father is right. She could’ve been honored anytime in her nearly 25-year career — with a resume highlighted by standout turns in films like “Save the Last Dance,” “The Last King of Scotland,” “She Hate Me” and “Ray,” all before she landed the role of D.C. fixer Olivia Pope on ABC’s “Scandal.

Kerry Washington shared her thoughts about how the TV industry works in 2024, and she’s not impressed with how quickly shows are scrapped.
The 47-year-old actress referenced the decision to cancel her show Unprisoned, which she starred in and executive produce, after only two seasons.
While attending the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles, she compared the series to her massive hit Scandal, which took almost two seasons to take off. Of course, it then became a global sensation.

“Unfortunately, we’re not getting a third season [of UnPrisoned] — They’ve made that decision based on two seasons, which is … 16 episodes, that is less than one season of Scandal,” she said, via The Wrap.
She continued, noting, “The first season [of Scandal] was a midseason replacement, but we got extended, and we were on the bubble until the end of our second season, so it took...

Just weeks after “UnPrisoned” was canceled after two seasons on Hulu, Kerry Washington sounded off on shows getting axed “before they even [have] a runway” to find an audience.
“Unfortunately, we’re not getting a third season [of ‘UnPrisoned’] — They’ve made that decision based on two seasons, which is … 16 episodes, that is less than one season of ‘Scandal,’ ” Washington said Thursday at the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles, recalling her hit ABC drama created by Shonda Rhimes. “The first season [of ‘Scandal’] was a midseason replacement, but we got extended, and we were on the bubble until the end of our second season, so it took us close to 40 episodes before people thought, Okay, this show’s … going to work out [and] another season before we were really a global hit.”
Whereas “Scandal” was among the slew of shows with up to seven seasons a decade ago, Washington doesn’t believe the...

The end of the year is quickly approaching, which means I wouldn’t be surprised if we learn about more and more show cancelations. The first two cancelations of the fall season that really stung? UnPrisoned and Black Cake. Hulu, we are not happy!
TV fans know heartache all too well. Because as much as we love the excitement of a new series or season renewal, there will always be cancelations. And most of these cancelations tend to happen prematurely. This means that fans are left with unanswered questions since their beloved series was axed before given the chance to close the story. Well, brace yourselves, Hulu has recently axed two favorites.
We’re not sure why Hulu has canceled UnPrisoned
Do you know what we need more of in this world? Wholesome TV. So it’s really a shame that Hulu has axed UnPrisoned after two seasons. The dramedy...

Unprisoned will not return for a third season. Hulu has cancelled the drama series after two seasons on the streaming service. Season two finished airing in July, and the series amassed 16 episodes.
Kerry Washington, Delroy Lindo, Marque Richardson, Faly Rakotohavana, and Jordyn McIntosh star in the series, inspired by the life of creator Tracy McMillian. The Unprisoned series tells the story of a woman (Washington) whose life is turned upside down when her father (Lindo) is released from prison.
