Shows and content featuring MrBeast, Kelly Clarkson, and Guy Fieri were approved to receive production support from the Department of Defense last year, according to documents obtained by Rolling Stone. The charm offensive comes at a time when military recruitment has hit historic lows, and both defense officials and members of Congress are seeking new ways to recruit young people into the armed services.

Over the past 10 years Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar has batted a thousand at the Tony Awards. Both of his past Broadway outings — “Disgraced” in 2014 and “Junk” in 2017 — were nominated for Best Play, making him one of only three dozen writers in the history of the Tonys to have two noms for the top honor. His newest drama, “McNeal,” opened in September and stars Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr., who is making his Broadway debut in the role of a troubled, irascible, and extremely successful novelist.
With the incredibly popular Downey at the helm, fresh off his awards-sweeping “Oppenheimer” performance plus an Emmy for his lifestyle program “Downey’s Dream Cars,” “McNeal” will try to accomplish something no other Akhtar play has done before by earning a Tony acting nomination.

Welcome to Emmy week! And we’re already off to a record-breaking event, as FX’s “Shōgun” has made history before the Primetime Emmys ceremony even takes place. With 14 wins over the course of the Creative Arts Emmys weekend, “Shōgun” is now the most-honored program in a single year — besting “John Adams” (13 in 2008) and “Game of Thrones”. And again, the big awards aren’t coming until this weekend, and “Shōgun” will very likely add several more numbers to that total.
Not enough for the folks at FX to celebrate? They also are aiming to surpass “The Bear’s” record last year for the most wins by a comedy in a single year (10). So far, after last weekend, “The Bear” has 7 this year. I think beating that 10 is very much in the cards. FX will likely be this year’s network champ — the first time HBO or Netflix hasn’t held that honor in years.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival unveiled the winners of its new prize for feature filmmaking and award for short filmmaking late Wednesday night at the city’s Cameo Cinema.
The Ceremony, directed by Jack King, was awarded The Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence, decided on by an audience vote and funded by The Connery Foundation. King beats nine others to win a substantial £50,000 ($64,000) prize to fund his future projects.
The Ceremony, shot entirely in black and white, follows two migrant workers forced to bury a colleague in the Yorkshire hills. When one demands to perform the dead man his rightful Islamic burial, nerves begin to fray and a righteous power struggle emerges.
King is a self-taught writer/director & film-maker from Bradford, Yorkshire. He started out making music videos for independent and major record labels, and his work has racked up repeated Vimeo staff picks and millions of views online.

“General Hospital” led night one of the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, winning four prizes — including the outstanding daytime drama Emmy. “General Hospital” won the top daytime drama award for the fourth year in a row.
“Gh” took an early lead as proceedings got underway, including writing, directing and supporting actor performance in a daytime drama series (Robert Gossett as Marshall Ashford). While accepting the honor for daytime drama directing, the show’s team paid tribute to Johnny Wactor, the former “Gh” performer who was recently killed.
Besides Gossett from “Gh,” daytime acting awards were spread out among several shows, with CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” winning two — for lead actress (Michelle Stafford as Phyllis Summers) and supporting actress (Courtney Hope as Sally Spectra). CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” won the drama actor for Thorsten Kaye as Ridge Forrester, who also won last year.

Avid car collector Robert Downey Jr. isn’t sure how many cars he actually owns.
“About 20,” the Marvel actor said at the Los Angeles premiere of his new Max series, “Downey’s Dream Cars. “The fact that I don’t know the exact number speaks to the fact that I need to convert more of my cars.”
“Downey’s Dream Cars” chronicles a team of auto experts who convert traditional gas-powered cars into electric vehicles. The program was inspired by Rdj’s Footprint Coalition, his 4-year-old environmental organization that works to mitigate climate change.
The science and engineering featured on the show may remind viewers of Downey Jr.’s iconic work as Tony Stark in the MCU. In fact, suggested talking points provided by the show’s team for press covering the premiere included car interiors made from recycled plastic bottles, hydrogen fuel, biodiesel technology, sustainably in auto manufacturing and Photovoltaic electricity.
