The DC Universe has already begun with one TV series by way of Creature Commandos, but more are on the way. One of these is Lanterns, which will focus on the Green Lantern mythos with both Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Recently, a casting decision was announced for the show, and it bodes well for one member of the Green Lantern Corps in particular, in a ironic way.
Ulrich Thompsen has been cast as Sinestro in Lanterns, bringing the most iconic Green Lantern villain to the Dcu. He's also Hal Jordan's infamous rival, which speaks to both characters having a major role in the shared universe. It might also avoid the mistakes of other attempted Dcu adaptations, while putting certain fears about the show to rest.

Lanterns, an HBO series featuring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, the most notable Green Lanterns, is expected to release during the summer of 2026. Filming is scheduled to start oon: February 2025. Even now, it seems Aaron Pierre is still doing his research for his role as John Stewart.
During an interview with Virgin Radio UK's The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Aaron Pierre commented on preparing physically for the role of a Green Lantern as well as preparing his knowledge of the character. He stated his opinion of the character of John Stewart as follows:
“This character has always radiated class. He's always radiated charisma, strength, identity. So I'm very happy to be bringing him to life in a live action context.”
It sounds like Aaron Pierre has a good understanding of the character he's about to be playing. He then gives us an update...

“Rebel Ridge” breakout Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart in the “Lanterns” series at HBO.
Pierre will star opposite Kyle Chandler, who will play Hal Jordan in the DC adaptation. The series follows new recruit Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
“Lanterns,” which is produced in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, has received a straight-t0-series order from the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network.
Chris Mundy will be showrunner and he’s set to co-write the series with fellow executive producers Damon Lindelof and Tom King.

Green Lantern has had a rough history on film. In 2011, Warner Bros. bet on the hero being their Iron Man; a B-lister underdog who could kick off a blockbuster franchise. "Green Lantern" starring Ryan Reynolds did not fly high so the character was almost completely absent from the DC Extended Universe. (None of the major Green Lanterns show up in either cut of "Justice League.")
Now, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios is again looking to make the Green Lantern Corps an early fixture of their DC Films. Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner in 2025's "Superman" and a "Lanterns" TV series is currently in development at HBO. A "True Detective" style murder mystery, "Lanterns" will star the two most famous comic Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan and John Stewart (not the one from "The Daily Show").
Kyle Chandler has recently been cast as Hal Jordan, so what about John?...

Quick Links Why Josh Brolin Wouldn't Work as Hal Jordan Hal Jordan's Character Is a Delicate Balancing Act of Charisma and Experience This Dceu Actor Is Perfect for the Role of Green Lantern A Slightly Older Hal Jordan Makes Some Sense
The upcoming TV show Lanterns is set to introduce audiences to the versions of Hal Jordan and John Stewart in James Gunn's new DC Universe. This will be a wholesale reboot of the previous films and shows, with almost all of the major DC heroes recast from previous works. The casting for Hal Jordan is still up in the air, but the Dcu could feature the perfect "Highball" with a former DC movie actor.
Josh Brolin was potentially going to take the Green Lantern role, which proved controversial among many fans. Now, the actor has passed on the character of Hal, leaving it open for others to take.

The list includes a bunch of names, but in our report, we have decided to list the first ten names from the site, as to provide you with a better insight, combined with our original comment and opinions which will add flavor to the whole report.
Of course, since this is indeed an important list, have decided to report on it, so we are going to bring you the results by listing the top 10 actors on this list, from 10th to first place. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

Superhero fans are thoroughly enjoying the new X-Men ’97 animated series. The show is a continuation of the original X-Men: The Animated Series that launched in 1992. However, this recent release from Marvel Studios Animation has also got comic-book buffs wondering if they could soon get a long-awaited Spider-Man animated show.
Spider-Man’s animated cartoons have been a fan favorite over the past five decades. The first cartoon featuring the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler came out in 1967 and the superhero has been on a roll ever since. However, the character’s complicated TV rights have made it rather difficult to adapt the long-awaited Spider-Man ’98 show on TV.

Though they've made a fraction of the box office of even the worst DC live-action movie, creatively the crown jewel of DC Comics adaptations lies in their animated movies. It's through animation that the potential of comic book adaptations really shines. Ever since "Superman: Doomsday" was released in 2007, we've had movies that faithfully adapt popular comics storylines (rather than just borrow the name for brand recognition and throw the rest away), original films with wild concepts, and even movies that build on continuity like the biggest cinematic universes.
This is one of the most interesting aspects of the DC animated movies, because there are two proper continuities, each building up characters and storylines and exploring giant crossovers in a way DC has not come even close to figuring out in live-action.
Given how little resources Warner Bros. have used to properly market this universe or make sure audiences are aware of its continuity,...

The ongoing connected series of animated DC movies known as the Tomorrowverse will be coming to an end in 2024 with a climactic crossover event. The Tomorrowverse will only have seven movies within four years, significantly shorter than its predecessor, the DC Animated Movie Universe. The Dcu plans to tie many of the animated projects into the main timeline, but there will still be animated projects existing outside the main Dcu timeline.
The Dceu is ending soon, but it isn't the only DC cinematic universe nearing its end. The Dceu started with Man of Steel in 2013, but has been inconsistent throughout its run. Now, Peter Safran and James Gunn are rebooting the cinematic universe as the Dcu after the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Outside the Dcu, the studio still has several other ongoing projects, including the Robert Pattinson Batman movie series and its animated films and television shows.

DC animated films continue to receive positive reception from critics and audiences. Legion of Super-Heroes had their first feature-length movie, expanding their presence in DC animated projects. Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham adapts a popular comic book arc, offering a standalone story outside the current DC animated universe.
The DC Universe franchise continues its successful tradition of crafting animated movies, with several upcoming confirmed projects in 2023. While a lot of the previous Dceu live-action movies, such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, have been divisive, the DC animated films have been mostly positively received by critics and audiences. A total of six animated movies were released by DC in 2022, including DC League of Super-Pets, Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, and Catwoman: Hunted, a self-contained story with no connections to any universe.

The official trailer for DC Universe Animated Original Movie Justice League: Warworld just dropped, giving fans their first glimpse at the upcoming film's Conan the Barbarian-like take on Batman.
The trailer comes courtesy of Warner Bros. Entertainment. It sees Batman (Jensen Ackles), Wonder Woman (Stana Katic) and Superman (Darren Criss) marooned on Warworld, where each member of the trio is somehow trapped in an environment based on a different era from Earth's history. The Dark Knight finds himself in prehistoric times (hence his caveman attire), while Wonder Woman becomes a gunslinger in the Wild West and Superman assumes the identity of a 1940s detective. The Justice League: Warworld trailer also teases the animated epic's various DC cameos, including fan-favorite bounty hunter Jonah Hex (Troy Baker).

One of the more refreshing aspects of Legion of Super-Heroes is how Superman and Batman are kept in the background. It's something previous DC animated movies frequently didn't do, which led to saturation, especially because the two iconic heroes were also on the big screen. But in the Tomorrowverse, other characters are getting the spotlight.
Legion of Super-Heroes focuses on Kara Zor-El training in the 31st century, intent on showing Batman that she can be a hero. Admittedly, he has valid concerns because she's a liability back on Earth. But while Supergirl takes center stage, Kal-El and Bruce Wayne get a key arc. It crescendos with a shocking post-credits sequence that seemingly kills them, setting up a haunting Legion of Super-Heroes sequel.

The world of superheroes recently lost one of the very best when Kevin Conroy sadly passed away on November 10th. The voice actor is a legend in DC Comics after he played the caped crusader, Batman, in the DC Animated Universe and various video games. For many, his voice work on Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League codified him as the one true and definitive Batman over the likes of Michael Keaton and Christian Bale.
After being behind the mic as Batman for nearly thirty years, he finally got to play the role in live-action as part of the 2019 Arrowverse crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths. This marks him among the special ranks of actors who have played DC characters in both live-action and animation. While Kevin Conroy portrayed the same character across both, some have played various major characters in both mediums, whether in massive franchises like the Dcu...

With DC Comics' newest animated film, Green Lantern: Beware My Power, receiving mediocre reviews on Letterboxd, it's become the most recent addition in a line of poor reviews for recent DC projects in Letterboxd.
DC's animated films as part of the DC Animated Universe or as standalone projects have been excellent in the past, however. Letterboxd users have been very generous to certain ones that captured the artistic style of their source comics well or told an excellent story. Animated projects and superhero films don't always perform well on the site, so the ones who pull away with good scores have certainly achieved something.
Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo - 3.5
The Teen Titans animated series is probably one of the more unique choices in DC's list of animated shows, as it strayed away from the style of the comics and leaned more into the Cartoon Network style of its era.

After eight days, it’s over. That’s how long the Russo Bros.’ “The Gray Man” topped Netflix’s domestic chart for most-watched movies — only to be replaced by the new release of another Netflix Original, “Purple Hearts,” a low-budget military-immigrant romance starring singer-actress Sofia Carson (“Descendants”) and Nicholas Galitzine (“Cinderella”). “The Gray Man” didn’t disappear — it dropped to #2 — but that can’t have been the Netflix expectation for a 200 million action film from the directors of “Avengers: Endgame,” the biggest theatrical release in the last six years, starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas.
The streamer reported that “Gray” amassed over 88 million hours in worldwide viewing its initial weekend, the fifth highest for an original film. That’s 60 million fewer hours than last year’s “Red Notice” starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. “Red” spent 12 days as #1, including two full weekends, but more important...
