The new Silent Hill f trailer has revealed a deeply unsettling game that seems poised to take the long-running horror franchisein a bold new direction. While previous entries in the series largely took place in small-town Maine, Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan. The trailer showcases several monsters that appear to be inspired by Japanese folklore, suggesting the game will take full advantage of its new setting.
Aside from the trailer, not much is known about Silent Hill f so far, but Konami has revealed one key piece of information: the game's writer. Silent Hill f is penned by Ryukishi07, the creator of the When They Cry series of visual novels. Most famously, he created Higurashi, which was adapted into one of the creepiest and most terrifying horror anime of all time.

Horror might be the most underappreciated genre in anime, as we seldom see good manga and light novels adapted into animated form. While there have been many incredible horror anime series over the years, like Another, Higurashi: When They Cry, and Shiki, when compared to other genres such as fantasy and romance, these are certainly lackluster.
Having said that, there are still plenty of enjoyable horror anime series that will add eerie excitement to your Halloween binge. This festive season, forget the typical live-action horror films; instead, you can watch some of the finest horror that anime has to offer. So, buckle up your seatbelts and prepare some popcorn for this month's warm weekends, as Crunchyroll's got you covered with some spooky, free anime treats.
Another (2012) Currently Streaming on Crunchyroll
Another is perhaps the most popular and spooky horror anime we'll ever see, given its unique rural setting that allows room for fright.

The Mobile Suit Gundam brand is no stranger to interesting collaborations and stylish merchandise. The latest examples of these include jewelry based on some of the more overlooked mobile suit units in the franchise.
Two rings and necklaces are being made in honor of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, the first sequel to the original entry. Based on the main mobile suits from the series, the jewelry is cast in precious metals and certain to glisten in the light. The merchandise comes as the franchise reaches a major milestone -- although the items themselves will cost fans a bit more than the average Gunpla kit.

Paranormal investigation shows have been a staple of reality television for decades. This sub-genre of reality television draws in all sorts of fans, from hardcore horror buffs to casual enjoyers of paranormal happenings. What makes the sub-genre stand out, though, is the extreme passion people have for uncovering the truth. Anything that investigates what may or may not be real is bound to draw the attention of even the most hardcore skeptics.
Dozens of television shows and movies explore this subject. This creates a wide range from traditional-style ghost-hunting shows, like the classic Ghost Hunters, to documentary-style recounts of actual paranormal events, like A Haunting and 28 Days Haunted. Not all paranormal investigation shows are equal, but some stand above the rest.

Horror is a genre filled with blood, gore, violence, and jump scares. Plenty of horror franchises thrive off their fandom's fears in order to deliver exceptional storytelling that's as exciting as it is scary. Audiences may be aware of highly-acclaimed horror anime and manga like Shiki or Higurashi: When They Cry, but things aren't so cut and dry when it comes to South Korean horror manhwa.
Unbeknownst to manga fans, manhwa has lots of horror to keep readers occupied. Whether it is about frightening creatures or surviving on an island, there is a horror manhwa out there for everyone. There are thousands of horrifying manhwa chapters out there, but there are certain series that stand above the rest and will frighten even the most seasoned of anime and manga horror fans.

In the breakout horror anime Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, Akira Tendo and his friends have plenty of optimism and determination to live, but zero ability to fight off a zombie horde. While action horror heroes mow down monsters with all manner of weapons, Akira and company find themselves in a funny take on zombie horror that emphasizes the spiritual growth of the characters rather than their struggle to survive.
Zom 100's heroes are more focused on enjoying their post-apocalypse life than anything else, making the series different from other horrors. There are many other anime out there that take an innovative approach to the horror genre. While some of them feature similar comedy elements that characterize Zom 100, the majority of them are horror through and through.

There’s so much creativity on display in anime and there’s always something new to discover, whether that happens to be a playful and optimistic series or something more mature that leans into the opposite extreme of darkness. Radical tonal shifts are surprisingly common in anime and it’s never a good idea to judge a series’ atmosphere from its art design or characters.

There are also plenty of anime that flirt with darker implications, but leave the audience guessing whether they’ll actually cross this line or not. Bleak twists and downer endings can make it really difficult to give a series a shot or consider it worthy of a revisit, while other anime are only memorable because of their grim conclusions.

Japanese anime and manga often feature fiendish, blood-sucking vampire characters as dark antiheroes or terrifying villains, while others portray vampires as charming, surprisingly relatable and likable people, including cute vampire girls here and there. Vampires are more popular than ever in media, and anyone who loves stories about the occult or the supernatural are encouraged to try a handful of great vampire anime series.

While the powers, weaknesses, and origin myth/stories of vampires can change over the years according to each creator, vampires are always instantly recognizable as fanged children of the night, and anime fans can't get enough of it. In anime, there's plenty of room for reinterpretation of vampires or even desconstructions of them, from half-vampire antiheroes to vampires who have more in common with high school students than with the likes of Dracula and Nosferatu.
