The most-awaited Superman movie is here. James Gunn has put a unique spin on DC’s Man of Steel, and fans have already loved what they got to see in the promotional material. Gunn brings optimism and hope back to the character while fleshing out interesting characters based on the comics and the original Superman movie of 1978.

During a press conference, the DC CEO shared that the hero in his movie represented “the basic kindness of human beings” (via ScreenRant). He has brought an interesting mix of characters to his first film, played by an ensemble cast. Gunn’s cast consists mostly of up-and-coming actors in Hollywood.

The Guild of Music Supervisors Awards revealed its 2025 winners Sunday night (Feb. 23). The 15th annual ceremony was held at The Wiltern in L.A.’s Koreatown and honors the year’s best work in songs and scores for screen.

Sunday’s ceremony began with a video about January’s deadly wildfires, in which guild president Lindsay Wolfington lost her home. She thanked the community for rallying behind her during opening remarks with vp Heather Guibert.

The opening remarks didn’t shy away from addressing the Academy’s decision to “move away” from best original song live performances at the 2025 Oscars. “We are proud that our awards for best song written and or recorded for film and for television, acknowledges the collaborative efforts of the songwriters, the performers, and of course the music,” Guibert told the crowd.

Twisters and The Idea of You are the most nominated films for the 2025 Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, the nominees for which were unveiled Friday.

Twisters’ Rachel Levy earned a nod for best music supervision among major budget films, while Frankie Pine with the romantic comedy The Idea of You received a nomination for best music supervision in a mid-budget film. And in the best film song competition, the Twisters action thriller got a nod for “Out of Oklahoma,” while The Idea of You will contend in the category with the title song “The Idea of You”.

Music supervisors Steve Schnur, Raphaella Lima, Codie Childs, Mike Ladman and Mara Tacham received the most individual nominations with three each, and Netflix earned the most nominations among major studios with 13 in all.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced on Monday the 207 feature films eligible for Best Picture consideration, two days before voting for the 2025 Oscar nominations begins.

There are 323 feature films eligible for the Academy Awards, but just 207 met the Best Picture competition eligibility requirements.

As stated by the Academy in a press release, “To be eligible for consideration in the general entry categories, under rules implemented for the 97th Academy Awards year, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the City of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, and complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue. Feature films must have a running time of more than 40 minutes.”

Exclusive: Kelly Marie Tran (Raya and the Last Dragon), Andie Ju (Beef) and Brandon Soo Hoo (The Tiger’s Apprentice) have entered production in Miami this week on Forge, an indie marking the feature directorial debut of Malaysian-born filmmaker Jing Ai Ng.

Searchlight Pictures' The Greatest Hits puts a spin on time travel movies by having music essentially serving as a "time machine" for Lucy Boynton's character. Joined by co-star Justin H. Min, Boynton commented on the film's use of time travel with music and how that makes a great deal of sense as something everybody can relate to.

When asked by Cbr's Kevin Polowy what it was about The Greatest Hits that spoke to her, Boynton said, "I think the way music is used in this film, because I think I realize I share such a similar relationship with music as Harriet does, and I think that's pretty universal, this utilization of it as like a time machine to kind of whip you back to the person who introduced you to the song, or the time that you were listening to it the most."

Ahead of David Corenswet making his debut as the Man of Steel in James Gunn's Superman, the actor can be seen in his latest role in Searchlight Pictures' The Greatest Hits. Now streaming on Hulu, the film features Corenswet as part of the cast alongside Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, and Austin Crute.

Speaking about the film with Cbr's Kevin Polowy, Crute touched on working with Corenswet and the upcoming Superman film. Crute recalled how Corenswet gives off "big brother vibes" with how much of a "light" he is on the set. It was also noted how Corenswet was always offering ideas on how to improve scenes, and Crute learned a lot from observing him at work. It has Crute feeling confident that Corenswet will continue to be a leading man for many more projects to come after starring in Superman.

Actor David Corenswet landed one of the biggest roles of the Dcu as the star of the upcoming movie Superman. The major casting follows a previous attempt to work with writer-director James Gunn for a previous project set in the MCU that didn't work out.

On the social media platform Threads, James Gunn was asked by a fan about the rumor that David Corenswet auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a part that ultimately went to Will Poulter. The Greatest Hits stars Lucy Boynton as Harriet Gibbons, a woman grieving the tragic death of her boyfriend.
