Adam Dimarco didn’t even know what a fraternity was when he stepped onto his university’s campus in Ontario. Now he’s captivating audiences as a caricature of the leader of a secret society brotherhood in Prime Video’s “Overcompensating.”
“The White Lotus” alum stars as Peter, the toxic, hyper-masculine boyfriend to Grace (Mary Beth Barone) and leader of the school’s most elite secret society Flesh & Gold. Dimarco told TheWrap the key to unlocking his inner douchebag but still making him lovable was in the series’ title.
“Every character in this show is overcompensating in their own way, so just figuring out what Peter was overcompensating about: Not coming from a wealthy family or feeling like he has to also be more ‘masculine’ to fit in,” Dimarco said.

Nothing brings out early 2000s nostalgia quite like Disney Channel's original movies. With cheesy one-liners, questionable fashion choices, and a usually solid message for younger viewers, the network's original films are a staple for a particular generation.
But not all of these movies are a smashing success. Whether it's due to painful writing or dreadfully outdated slang, some fans can't help but shudder when they look back on them. Some of these films may be able to survive the changing times, but not even the cutest tween celebrities can rescue others from being woefully dated.
Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on October 29, 2023: While the days of Disney Channel original movies have ultimately been replaced by the rise of streaming services, including Disney+, many people who grew up in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s still remember these television films fondly. Debby Ryan leads the talented Jessie cast as the titular protagonist, an idealistic girl who moves from Texas to New York to pursue her dreams. However, to make ends meet, she becomes a nanny for a wealthy family’s four boisterous children. The life-changing experience puts her into several misadventures of her own. Jessie made use of quintessential Disney sitcom tropes, thanks to showrunner Pamela Eells O’Connell who previously wrote and executive produced The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and its spin-off The Suite Life on Deck. Thanks to its cast of then-emerging stars, Jessie stood out on its own as one of the best Disney Channel TV shows.
While Jessie established its lead actor as a mainstream Disney star, it also proved to be a major opportunity for the actors playing the children of the uber-rich Ross family. As for the actors playing their parents and the performers playing the supporting characters,...

Disney Channel original movies have been a major part of people's childhoods, with new titles added to its catalog every single year. Entire nostalgia-filled franchises have spawned on Disney Channel, including the High School Musical and Descendants series.
For some, the content on Disney Channel shaped their entire youth. However, looking back at these films years after their release, certain incredibly harsh realities come to light, forcing viewers to doubt the quality of each film in the Disney Channel canon.
They Aren't That Good
While Disney Channel originals may be a major part of many people's childhoods, very few of their original movies, even the most beloved, have been particularly well-received. Unfortunately, the sad reality of these films is that they are far from the quality of Disney's other offerings, particularly those that have been released in theaters.

Sometimes you have to defer to the experts. So when Debby Ryan — the 19-year-old star of Disney Channel’s Jessie (Fridays at 8:30/7:30c) — stopped by TVLine’s Times Square offices, I made sure to have my twin sons on hand to do the heavy lifting. Jared and Jacob wrote their own questions; I only sprinkled some in A) to make sure we covered all the bases, and B) because they don’t teach Follow-Up Questions until fifth grade.

It took a little patience and a lot of good humor to get the 2012 Humanitas Prize kudos handed out on Friday.
Technical difficulties, human error and the propensity of scribes to hog the microphone made for a three hour-plus affair at the Montage hotel in Bev Hills, where the luncheon ceremony was hosted by Bill Lawrence. When all was said and done, “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Rescue Me” and “Modern Family” claimed the top top series honors.
“Beasts of the Southern Wild” screenwriters Lucy Alibar and Benh Zeitlin took the org’s Sundance indie film award. James Solomon and Gregory Bernstein won for feature film for “The Conspirator.”
ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” (Stacy McKee) and FX’s “Rescue Me” (Denis Leary and Peter Tolan) tied for hourlong series category. ABC’s “Modern Family” (Abraham Higginbotham and Dan O’Shannon) won the half-hour heat. HBO’s “Cinema Verite” (David Seltzer) prevailed in the 90-minute telepic category.

Conan the Barbarian and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa and Merritt Patterson (The Hole) are joining Lucas Till in werewolf thriller Wolves.
This time Momoa is on a bit of a villainous streak as he’s going to be the baddie in the directorial debut of X-Men writer David Hayte.
More precisely, Momoa will be the badass werewolf patriarch of the town.
Hayter is helming from his own script the film set to shoot in Toronto this fall; his goal is to start an original franchise.
Till plays a werewolf named Caleb who, accused of murdering his parents, goes on the run and winds up in a strange town called Lupine Ridge to discover that he’s not the only supernatural thing out in the world, while Patterson, who starred in the Disney Channel original movie Radio Rebel, will play a character named Angelina Timmins.

You can’t really expect much from Disney made-for-tv movies, especially those following in the tradition of the well-cast, poorly written but beloved Disney channel comedies that an entire generation of kids grew up on at the height of High School Musical popularity. That style of show has stayed alive on the Disney Channel ever since thanks in large part to it functioning as a pop star factory that has given the world such talents as Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus. If Radio Rebel has its way, Debby Ryan (who is the spitting image of Gomez) is the next in line as it cashes in on a story a bit too close to that of Hannah Montana for comfort with a dose of youth activism to give some spice (aka do what it can to differentiate itself).
