Oprah Winfrey‘s cable network Own (the Oprah Winfrey Network) is making its first venture into scripted TV.

The network has entered into a partnership with director, writer, producer and actor Tyler Perry, who is best known for his over-the-top portrayal of the character Madea in several films, to make it the place for his shows and projects. Part of the deal requires that Perry produce two new scripted series for Own to premiere in mid-2013.

“I have been looking forward to the day when we would be in the position to enter the world of scripted television,” Winfrey says. “We are all energized by the opportunity to collaborate with Tyler, who has a proven track record for producing highly successful cable series. Comedienne Rosie O'Donnell is bouncing back following the cancellation of her U.S. chat show - she's in talks to head to Broadway for Will Smith's upcoming revival of Annie.

The Rosie Show was recently axed by bosses at Oprah Winfrey's Own network after just one season, but the actress is refusing to dwell on the news and is now planning to return to the New York stage.

According to The Daily Beast, O'Donnell has met with show producers about taking on the part of Miss Hannigan in the forthcoming musical, which will star the Men In Black actor's daughter, Willow Smith, as the titular orphan.

Rosie O'Donnell's new chat show on Oprah Winfrey's TV network has been cancelled after just one season.

The Rosie Show premiered on Own last year but it will end this month.

The final episodes will tape next week and the last show is set to air on 30 March.

The show failed to win over critics and struggled with ratings.

Announcing the news in a statement on Friday, Winfrey said, "I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all."

Washington, Mar 17: Oprah Winfrey's Network (Own) is cancelling 'The Rosie Show' after airing it for just five months.

The show, hosted and produced by Rosie O'Donnell premiered in October last year to about 500,000 viewers but lost about half of that audience within days of its debut.

Recently, it changed the format from taping before a studio audience to a one-on-one interview setting with celebrities such as Kathy Griffin, Chelsea Handler and former Illinois first lady Patti Blagojevich.

In a statement released by Own, the 58-year-old thanked O'Donnell, CBS News reported.
