Fans of Gilmore Girlsappreciate the show for the funny back-and-forth, witty banter between Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham). The charming small-town atmosphere of Stars Hollow feels immersive and welcoming. From Luke's Diner to Kim's Antiques, every business seems like a place that viewers would want to visit. The residents of Star's Hollow, meanwhile, are quirky, interesting, and above all, fully realized. The wit, the charm, the characters...Bunheads shares all of what made Gilmore Girls such an incredible show. It was even created by the same person: Amy Sharman-Palladino.
Bunheads explored themes of growing up and finding one's place in the world. It took its characters seriously, giving them sharp dialogue and interesting arcs.It only ran for 18 episodes in 2012 on ABC Family before it was canceled due to poor ratings. There are many amazing cult TV shows that only aired for one season, and Bunheads should be included among them.

Misty Copeland, star of the American Ballet Theatre, has signed with Range Media Partners for representation in all areas.
Copeland joined the New York City ballet company in 2000 and in 2015 was promoted to principal dancer — a first for an African-American woman in Abt’s 75 year-old history. Signing with Range Media Partners comes as Copeland continues a transition from the ballet stage to the big screen.
In 2015, she launched the production banner, Life in Motion Productions, with two-time Emmy-winning writer and producer Leyla Fayyaz. Their mission is bringing more diverse stories and representation of artists from underrepresented communities to traditional and new media platforms.
Their first project, Flower, directed by Lauren Finerman and written by Fayyaz, followed Rose, played by Copeland, as she carries the weight of providing a home, caring for her dementia-suffering mother and teaching young ballerinas in her Oakland community as it gentrifies. The 28-minute short made its...

Somehow, I managed to miss the Younger train when it originally aired on television.
Maybe I was under a rock, or it wasn’t something that immediately grabbed my attention in its heyday. It’s a pity since Sutton Foster had my heart during the tragically canceled Bunheads.
Anyway, Younger has been streaming on Netflix, and all it took was one graphic of Hilary Duff smiling and a dreary afternoon for me to press play.
(Paramount+/Screenshot)
It’s funny, quirky, and reminds me of a time when people genuinely thought we Millennials were the “It” thing and chased after our interest, taste, and dollar was actually a priority.
I must’ve been under a rock on that front, too, because all I can ever remember is a thousand different think-pieces about how we somehow ruined everything, but that’s a discussion for another day.

While Younger was just a little TV series that started on TV Land, it blew up to become hugely popular thanks to the pretty stellar Younger cast. Foster stars as Liza Miller, a 40-year-old divorcee who realizes she can pass off as a 20-something woman and lies about her age to get a job in the publishing industry. She then makes new friends but has to keep lying about her age to protect her job. Some actors have been in the business for decades, and some have lengthy resumes in the theater world.
Hilary Duff may have been the most recognizable name in the cast. Still, fans might recognize other cast members from projects they have been in, with Foster in the lead role and names like Debi Mazar and Miriam Shor in key supporting roles. Many of the Younger cast members have also already gone on to star in other projects,...

Airing for seven seasons, Younger stars Sutton Foster as Liza, a forty-year-old mother recently separated from her husband who realizes she has put her dreams on hold to live a small family life in the suburbs. When she takes a shot at an entry-level job at a publishing house in New York City, everything changes. Also starring Hilary Duff and Nico Tortorella, this show had the laughs, the acting chops, and the fashion sense to remain successful. It ended up airing on TV Land, Paramount+, and Hulu before finally ending things.
After Younger wrapped up after seven successful seasons, fans missed seeing what adventures Liza is having. While there was a Kelsey spin-off series in the works starring Hilary Duff with Darren Star still in control, that all ended when Duff chose to move on to star in the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father.

Rather than bringing back Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2, I’d much rather see a revival of an underrated Amy Sherman-Palladino show from 2012, which was canceled after one season. As a diehard Gilmore Girls fan, I, like many others, wanted nothing more than to go back to Stars Hollow and see the characters I love. Unfortunately, I am one of the many fans who thought the revival was bad and look to theories about A Year in the Life to make it more enjoyable.
The humor was outdated, the character growth was minimal, and the "thirty-something gang" felt like a mean-spirited caricature of the Millennial generation. Despite how enjoyable the 2024 Gilmore Girls reunion is in the popular Walmart commercial, I am not confident that a second season of Ayitl would fix the issues. Instead, I’d rather a streaming site focus on another Amy Sherman-Palladino show – canceled...

With all its prestige, it's hard to think of a greater movie for an actor to be cast in than Oppenheimer, even if it's a relatively small part, like Jackie Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan's three-hour, R-rated historical epic about the making of the atomic bomb was a box-office juggernaut in 2023, raking in nearly $1 billion worldwide. Winning seven awards at the 2024 Oscars, Oppenheimer notably took home the coveted Best Picture while Nolan picked up his first Academy Award for Best Director. Though nominating every great acting performance would be impossible, Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. won for theirs.
Because Oppenheimer has such an extensive cast, it was sometimes difficult for the supporting parts to get a lot of screen time. This is true for talented actors like future Superman, David Dastmalchian, Dane DeHaan, Alex Wolff, and Emma Dumont, who briefly played Jackie Oppenheimer. Though she isn't explored in much detail during the film,...

In 1959, New York Times critic Brooks Atkinson heralded the arrival of a new musical comedy star in Once Upon a Mattress, a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Princess and the Pea.” Carol Burnett, he wrote, has “a metallic voice, an ironic gleam, and an unfailing sense of the comic gesture” as she “discharges” the music “as though she were firing a field mortar.” Meanwhile, her co-star, Joe Bova, as Prince Dauntless the Drab, only received mention from Atkinson as one of several “winning young people” backing up Burnett.
Dauntless has always seemed a supporting part, inevitably overshadowed by Princess Winnifred the Woebegone, one of musical theater’s most boisterous, irrepressible heroines. But Michael Urie, playing Dauntless in the new Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress, a transfer of the Encores! production that opened in January for a two-week run at New York City Center, reveals that this...

Some television shows we miss the most have only lasted one season.
Many of these series found their way into our hearts because of their emotional heart or their wit.
Some we’ve loved for decades, and others are newer favorites, but the TV Fanatic staff wished that many of these shows had gotten better resolutions or a fairer chance.
There are so many one-season wonders that never received a fair chance.
While we’d love to showcase all of them, here are nine that remain in our hearts.

In terms of similar shows that aired on different days but were aimed at teens, the biggest competition was probably from Beverly Hills 90210.

Fans and series creators agree that Prime Video struck out in its recent decision to reverse the Season 2 order for period sports dramedy A League of Their Own. While the news retreaded a tiring streaming trend of short-lived Sapphic stories, the baseball series' unceremonious departure additionally underinvests in women's role in sports narratives.
From the US Women's National Team suing their employer for equal pay to leagues like the WNBA constantly fighting for space in the national sports market, cancelations of shows like A League of Their Own, Pitch, Big Shot, Long Slow Exhale, Bunheads, and Spinning Out prove reflective of disheartening dominant attitudes surrounding women's sports in popular culture. A League of Their Own's fight to find a second home field for their show eerily mirrors a reality where women's sports leagues and franchises constantly battle for better representation and investment in their livelihoods.

The world of television has never been more exciting than it is today. With an endless supply of content available at our fingertips, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to binge-worthy shows. But sometimes, a shorter series can be just as satisfying as a long-running one. In an age where binge-watching has become the norm, we often find ourselves lost in the labyrinth of multi-season dramas. While these shows can be incredibly rewarding, there's something to be said for a concise, well-crafted story that doesn't overstay its welcome. Sometimes, a short series can be a breath of fresh air, offering a unique perspective and telling a complete story in just a handful of episodes.

A version of this story about Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Five seasons of Amazon’s pop-culture-reveling hit “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” has yielded more stars rising than bagel dough, but possibly none more so than show composers Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore. The duo, who met at Northwestern and mentored with “The Muppet Show” veteran and multiple Emmy winner Larry Grossman, are responsible for pretty much any piece of music you hear that isn’t from someone’s songbook, and like other efforts from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, you can bet musical numbers are going to be part of the deal.

The character of Rory on Gilmore Girls was memorably played by Alexis Bledel, but another actress who landed a major role on the show also auditioned for the part. The heartwarming comedy-drama focused on sweet and studious Rory Gilmore and her goofy yet hard-working mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham) has remained beloved by audiences, especially due to its quirky yet endearing group of characters. Gilmore Girls was elevated by some great casting, though the main role of Rory almost looked very different.
Rory was nearly played by a completely different actress. During the Gilmore Girls reunion at the Atx Television Festival Panel in 2015, Liza Weil, who portrayed the snarky and ambitious Paris Geller, revealed (via People) that she initially auditioned for Rory. Though she lost the Gilmore Girls role to Alexis Bledel, the producers liked Weil, and Paris's character was written into the show specifically for her. Weil admitted that when she was younger,...

For one delightful yet short-lived season from 2012-2013, Amy Sherman-Palladino's "Bunheads" appeared on ABC Family. According to Fast Company, the network was searching for their own version of the hit musical series "Glee," but Sherman-Palladino convinced them to focus on dance instead. The title "Bunheads" is based on an obscure slang term for ballerinas, and perhaps it was this niche perspective that led to the series' swift cancellation.

Exclusive: Succession‘s Alan Ruck is the latest addition to the cast of Amazon Studios’ film The Burial, which is currently in production. He joins an ensemble that also includes Jamie Foxx, Tommy Lee Jones, Jurnee Smollett, Mamoudou Athie, Bill Camp, Dorian Missick, Pamela Reed, Amanda Warren and Jim Klock.
The film from director Maggie Betts is based on the New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr. It follows a charismatic personal injury lawyer famous for his impressive track record and loudly unconventional approach who decides to help a funeral home owner save his family business from a predatory corporate behemoth. In a move to bring emotional resonance to a dry contract law case, the lawyer digs up an unexpected and complex web of race, power and oppression that forces everyone to examine long-buried prejudices they didn’t know they had.
Doug Wright adapted the screenplay. Bobby Shriver is producing for Bobby Shriver Inc.

I started watching "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" when it first debuted for two reasons: one, I grew up watching creator and showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino's other shows, "Gilmore Girls" and "Bunheads"; and two, the fabulous vintage fashion. As "Maisel" nears the end of its fourth (and penultimate) season, I'm seeing more similarities than ever between it and "Gilmore Girls" - in particular, the one pitfall that made the final years of "Gilmore" so disappointing to watch.
One of the delights of any Sherman-Palladino show is its deliciously quirky, borderline bizarre cadre of minor characters, set pieces, and side plots. However, with that delight comes one of the major pitfalls of an Amy Sherman-Palladino show: the longer it goes on, the more screen time gets eaten up by these flights of fancy that were more enjoyable in small doses. Anyone who watched "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" and sat...

It’s always a letdown when shows don’t get to shine. Even worse is when a series shows so much potential, but gets canceled after only one season. Many of them go on to become cult classics, but we still have to wonder what could’ve happened if they went on for longer. C’est la vie.

Allying two of the biggest powerhouses in high-end Spanish-language drama series, Movistar Plus and The Mediapro Studio have joined forces to produce “Paraíso,” a banner 2021 Spanish series and determined push into Young Adult entertainment.
Previewed at MIPTV’s The Wit’s Young Adult Fiction, where it was also chosen among Variety’s 10 buzziest market titles, the genre blender is directed by Fernando González Molina (“Palm Trees In the Snow”). Set to bow June 4 on Movistar Plus, it marks the Spanish pay TV/SVOD biggest push to date into YA territory, following on university relationship drama “Merlí: Sapere Aude” and its first animated series, “Virtual Hero.”
Shot after Covid-19 hit Spain, “Paraíso” is set on the eastern coast of Spain, in a small town nestling by the beach and backed by spectacular sharp-buffed cliffs. Here, a group of high-school friends search desperately for three girls who have disappeared, including the sister of one of the protagonists,...

Madrid — Spain’s government has drawn up a timetable of phased emergence from Covid-19 lockdown which sets cautiously estimated dates of May 11 and May 26 for the re-authorization of movies and series shoots and cinema theater re-openings respectively.
Scheduled as Phase One and Two of a easing of Covid-19 restrictions, dates depend on no second spike in contagion, Spanish prime minster Pedro Sánchez stressed when addressing the nation Tuesday night.
No dates were initially given to the phase-out. Those became clearer Wednesday in Spanish newspaper coverage of the government’s recovery plans.
Announcements of the potential lockdown lift on shoots was greeted positively by Spain’s production sector, though with multiple riders.
Spain’s exhibition sector used the news of plans to reopen cinema theaters to call, via trade assn. Fece, for compensation for losses accumulated to date, and in the foreseeable immediate future.

Cinema shutdowns across Europe on Friday, in addition to travel bans and multiple film and TV shoot postponements, have left Europe’s film industry facing a perfect storm — and sent shockwaves across the whole of its movie industry.
They also saw some industry figures crying out for governments to implement measures similar to those put forward by France’s Cnc state film agency on Thursday.
In the latest lockdown, every single cinema theater in Spain closed Friday after Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez declared a state of emergency.
“They should have done it sooner,” said producer-distributor-exhibitor Adolfo Blanco, at A Contracorriente Films, who owns the Verdi and Conde Duque cinema theaters in Spain.
“We just have to hope this won’t last long because costs continue, even with zero revenues. I fear some companies just...
