Neil Patrick Harris and Jane Krakowski have joined the high-profile cast of Robert O’Hara’s upcoming Off Broadway play Shit.Meet.Fan., joining a line-up that includes the previously announced Garret Dillahunt, Billy Magnussen, Debra Messing, Genevieve Hannelius, Tramell Tillman and Constance Wu.

Making further inroads into markets in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond, Studiocanal, one of Europe’s top production-distribution-international sales powerhouses, has clinched further sales on premium daily drama “The Vow” (“La Promesa”), closing Poland and two Baltic States, as well as France.

Produced by Spain’s Bambú Producciones, a Studiocanal company, Studiocanal and national Spanish public broadcaster Rtve, “The Vow” has been acquired by Polish pubcaster Tvp Poland, state-backed network Err Estonia and state-owned Ltv Latvia.

In additional new sales, Dubai TV has closed rights to Mena territories. French free-to-air channel C8, owned like Studiocanal by the Canal+ Group, will begin airing the series in July.

Mediaset Italy has now acquired all three seasons of “The Vow,” as has Dori Media Israel and Finnish state network Yle.

Hrt Croatia and Ltv Lithuania and commercial network Ktv Kosovo, which have broadcast Season 1, have signed up for further seasons.

European production-distribution giant Studiocanal is teaming with Spain’s Mr. Fields and Friends and Bambú, both led by producer Ramón Campos, on dramatic comedy “Rondallas,” written-directed by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo.

Sánchez Arévalo, one of Spain’s foremost crossover filmmakers, is coming back with “Rondallas” to a movie project oriented to classic cinema theater exhibition and distribution, after creating and directing a feature film and a TV series for Netflix.

Studiocanal will handle worldwide sales on “Rondallas,” scheduled to roll from March in Galicia, Northern Spain, with a still undisclosed cast.

“Rondallas” is produced by Campos, creator and executive producer of flagship Spanish TV dramas such as “Gran Hotel,” “Velvet,” “Cable Girls” and “Fariña,” all set up at his Madrid-based Bambú, one of the most game-changing of TV production companies in Spain, and partially owned by Studiocanal.

Berlín will introduce several new characters to the Money Heist franchise as the spinoff has added a number of talented stars to the cast list. A prequel to the hit Antena 3 and Netflix series, Money Heist, the Berlín spinoff sees Pedro Alonso reprise his role as the eponymous jewel thief as he plans another grand heist in Paris, France. While the world knows him as the bank robber Berlín, the spinoff makes him a bit more complex by exploring his backstory and allowing viewers to see what an ingenious criminal he is.

However, while Berlín is known for having successfully pulled off twenty-seven robberies, that doesn't mean he hasn't had any help along the way. With several new and talented actors joining the Money Heist franchise after being cast in Berlín, the spinoff will introduce a brand new crew who will prove themselves to be just as iconic as the original.

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Alex Moffat will make his Broadway debut in the upcoming comedy The Cottage, directed by Jason Alexander. Also joining the previously announced Eric McCormack, Laura Bell Bundy, and Lilli Cooper in the cast will be Nehal Joshi and Dana Steingold.

Sandy Rustin’s The Cottage, Alexander’s Broadway directorial debut, will play a limited run at The Hayes Theater from July 7 to October 29, with an opening night of July 24.

“Los pequeños amores,” the latest film from Celia Rico who made a splash at the 2018 San Sebastian Festival with “Journey to a Mother’s Room,” has been acquired for international sales by Spain-based Latido Films.

Produced by Barcelona-based Arcadia Motion Pictures, which co-produced Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s 2023 Goya winner and box office breakout “The Beasts, and France’s Noodles Production, Rico’s second feature is set in a bucolic countryside. It weighs in as a mother-daughter two-hander sparked after strongly independent mother Ani falls over walking the dog and is forced to use a wheelchair to get around.

Daughter Teresa cuts short a vacation to come to her side, their co-habitation grating and revealing multiple – sometime generational – differences as the film peels back the layers of their relation, exposing both women’s ambitions and fears.

Lionsgate+, formerly known as Starzplay, has set March 3 as the premiere date of its darkly comic original series ‘Nacho’ across all Latin America.

The news comes as Atresplayer Premium in Spain has announced that “Nacho” will bow on its service on March 5 as an Atresplayer Premium Original, in other words an exclusive in Spain on the adventurous service whose recent Originals include “Cardo,” produced by Los Javis.

Bowing its international trailer exclusively on Variety, the eight-episode series stars Martiño Rivas (“Cable Girls”) who plays the legendary Nacho Vidal whose notable physique makes him a star in Spain’s incipient porn industry in the ‘90s.

“Proving his talents reach far beyond his most infamous 25 cm [9.8 inches], Nacho changed the rules of the game in the 1990s when he became an international superstar,” the synopsis goes.

Exclusive: Fox is developing El Patio, a multi-camera comedy from writer Danny Fernandez (iCarly), Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter’s Two For The Road Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Fox Entertainment.

Written by Fernandez, El Patio follows a group of mostly Latin neighbors of all ages, races and walks of life, who welcome a new neighbor, Gabriel Suarez, into their small Miami apartment building. Gabriel, a Mexican-American from Texas, always knew that life in Miami would be different, but he never expected that his neighbors’ cultural differences would be an almost-constant source of conflict and comedy.

Fernandez executive produces with Kapital Entertainment’s Kaplan and Melanie Frankel. Sanchez and Winter executive produce via Two For The Road. Manuel Mendoza serves as co-producer. Last awards season, Apple’s heartwarming family drama “Coda” became just the seventh Best Picture recipient in history to pull off a clean sweep at the Oscars. There is no bigger swing this year from HBO Max in Spain than its original series “Garcia!” Produced by Madrid’s Zeta Studios, the company behind Netflix’s uber hit “Elite,” it also marks a push by HBO Max in Europe into series of broader appeal than the traditional HBO brand.

Dropping worldwide its first two episodes on HBO Max from Oct. 28, the six-part thriller played to applause at its world premiere at Austin’s Fantastic Fest where the series’ Spanish director, Eugenio Mira, is a firm favourite, winning best director in 2005 for his feature debut, “The Birthday,” and screening there in 2013 “Grand Piano,” starring Elijah Wood and John Cusack.

“One of our obsessions, and mine in particular, is trying to do things which have not been done before,” Miguel Salvat, VP commissioning editor Spain for HBO Max, explained to Variety at San Sebastian last year at a presentation which included “Garcia!

Famed for its premium series, European production-distribution giant Studiocanal and Spanish partner Bambu Producciones are now driving ever deeper into premium daily dramas, first with “Two Lives” and now with “The Vow,” which Studiocanal is bringing onto the market at Mipcom.

The show is produced by Studiocanal-owned Bambú Producciones, led by Ramón Campos and Teresa Fernández Valdés, and the creator of successful daily shows, Josep Cister.

Spanish public broadcaster Rtve, which co-produces with Studiocanal and Bambu, retains rights to Latin America and the U.S.

Created by Cister, “The Vow,” which went into production in Spain this September, weighs in at 122 one-hour episodes.

Principal photography is underway on police thriller “Memento Mori” from one of Spain’s biggest production shingles, Zebra Productions, part of Grupo iZen, which presented its upcoming series “Tenorio” at Iberseries’ Co-Production & Financing Forum on Sept. 28.

“Tenorio” takes a deep dive into the life of iconic literary character Don Juan Tenorio to explore how he transformed into the legendary ‘Latin Lover’ of yore .

“Memento Mori,” which has been shooting in the city of Valladolid, is based on a trilogy of novels by author César Pérez Gellida who hails from the town, said iZen’s Lara Lejarza.

Zebra Prods. is producing the show for Prime Video which plans to stream the series in Spain, Portugal and Andorra.

Stephen Kronish and Jon Cassar, showrunner and director-producer respectively of “24,” the ratings and critical hit which ran on Fox network for nine seasons, have boarded upcoming thriller series “Barcelona.”

The news was jointly announced by transatlantic production company El Estudio, Jeff Berg’s Northside Services, Todd Slater’s Convoke Media (“King of Killers”) and Karen and Howard Baldwin (“Ray”) of Kemb Prods. who have teamed up to produce the ambitious project.

“Barcelona” is one of 10 series being presented at the inaugural Co-Production and Financing Forum at Madrid’s 2nd Iberseries & Platino Industria TV event.

Based on Irish writer David Fennelly’s trilogy of novels, the three-season series set in Barcelona is described as a cross between “Homeland” and “Fauda” and “explores the origins of terrorism in Barcelona.” Fennelly and his manager Larry Levitsky also form part of the pool of producers on the project.

Eva Longoria has a new TV project in the works. Apple TV+ has given a series order to “Land of Women,” a dramedy from the “Desperate Housewives” alum.

Longoria will star in and executive produce the six-episode series. She’ll play Gala. Carmen Maura portrays Gala’s mother, Julia.

It may be this year’s ‘comfort food’ film but Julian Fellowes’ second theatrical sequel to his revered long-running TV show is quality goods — and may be better than the first one. Almost every actor is back, seemingly pleased as plum puddings to repeat their roles as either landed nobility or downstairs staff. The storyline ties a final bow on some characters and plot lines, and in a far more pleasing way than we thought possible. Even casual fans of the franchise ought to be charmed.

Jan Motjo’s Beta Group is making a bold bet on Spain, both its content and market, launching Beta Fiction Spain, a TV-movie production house which will also offer production services in Spain and run a theatrical distribution operation.

The new entity will be headed by two of the best-known and reputed film-tv execs in Spain: Mercedes Gamero, the former head of Atresmedia Cine, the film production-acquisition arm of Atresmedia Cine, and one of the most powerful movie producers in Spain; and Pablo Nogueroles, the former SVP at Warner Bros. Pictures International España. Both will head Beta Fiction Spain together with Christian Gockel, responsible for all Beta Group’s Spanish activities.

First projects or buys from Beta Fiction Spain have yet to be announced. The launch comes, however, as Spain is consolidating as an international power in a new platform driven environment – eight of the Top 10 non-English language TV shows...

Munich-based production and distribution house Beta Film has created a Spanish scripted division, with former Atresmedia exec Mercedes Gamero and Warner Bros. Pictures International España’s Pablo Nogueroles tapped to lead it.

Beta Fiction Spain will produce TV series and feature films, offer production services and act as a theatrical distributor in Spain.

The launch pushes Beta further into Iberia following the launch of Javier Pérez de Silva’s formats-focused Beta Entertainment Spain. The company has been a consistent investor in Spanish content over the years, selling several high-profile dramas such as Gran Hotel — often dubbed the Spanish Downton Abbey — and tying with likes of Atresmedia and Movistar+.

Gamero worked in acquisitions at Spanish broadcaster Atresmedia for 18 years, and worked as a producer on Academy Award-nominee Klaus and Goya Award Best Picture winners Futbolin and Marshland.

Exclusive: Jenna Bush Hager, co-host of Today with Hoda & Jenna, has hired seasoned development executive Ben Spector as President of Film and Television as part of her first-look deal with Universal Studio Group, which was announced in February.

Spector is coming off a lengthy tenure as President of TV & Film at Eva Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment.

Under Hager’s pact, she and Spector will develop and produce projects with Universal Content Productions, Universal Television, Universal Television Alternative Studio and Universal International Studios for multiple platforms through her production banner. They duo already is acquiring IP and optioning projects.

Hager is the founder of Today’s book club #ReadWithJenna, and had called her Usg production deal a “natural extension of Read with Jenna’s mission to highlight debut and diverse authors”. Since its launch in March 2019, 30 of Hager’s book club selections have become New York Times bestsellers.

While every ceremony has a smattering of correct decisions – trophies handed to the right people for the right films – more often than not, the pervading feeling is one of pessimism caused by a deluge of undeserving recipients.

Rising Australian star Lincoln Younes has been cast as the lead of “Last King of the Cross,” a biographical series about a notorious night club owner and gangster being produced for Paramount Plus.

Told in ten episodes, the series is an operatic story of two brothers, Sam and John Ibrahim who organize the street but lose each other in their ascent to power.

Kieran Darcy-Smith has writing credits and is set as the director. Production in Sydney, New South Wales, is due to begin at the weekend, according to local reports.

Based on John Ibrahim’s autobiography of the same name, the series tracks Ibrahim’s rise from a poverty-stricken Lebanese immigrant with no education, no money, and no prospects, to Australia’s most infamous nightclub mogul in Sydney’s Kings Cross. The district is a mini-Atlantic City, barely half a mile long with every form of criminality on display.

Spain’s Atresplayer Premium unveiled a slate of new and returning programs on Monday evening in a live presentation streamed from Madrid’s famed Gran Via, hosted by the streamer and featuring some of the most recognizable faces behind its impressive lineup of original local programming.

2021 was a banner year for Atresplayer, which closed agreements with major broadcasting and streaming partners including Movistar, Vodafone, Google and Apple. Due to its global reach, the service has also become a lifeline to Spaniards living abroad, with hundreds of thousands of subscribers worldwide who tune in to keep up on Spanish news and culture.

Puerto Rico will serve as the inaugural destination for the show’s first-ever Spanish-language countdown.
