Tom Selleck in Jesse Stone: Le bénéfice du doute (2012)

Jesse Stone: Le bénéfice du doute

Blue Bloods' Ending Means Tom Selleck Can Finally End His Other Big TV Franchise
Image
Tom Selleck's commitment to Blue Bloods hindered his return to the Jesse Stone series. The last Jesse Stone movie was released in 2015, with Selleck expressing interest in another entry. Fans should expect an update on Jesse Stone 10 after Blue Bloods wraps up.

Now that Blue Bloods is wrapping up, Tom Selleck can finish off his other TV franchise after a decade-long break. It's part of the movie's lore that Raiders of the Lost Ark almost cast Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones, but the latter's commitment to the Magnum P.I. pilot forced him to drop out. Of course, it was Magnum P.I. that made Selleck's career. This CBS series was a huge hit and allowed the star to branch out to movie work like Three Men and a Baby.

The star has had some hits on the big screen, but audiences know Selleck best for his TV work like Magnum P.

The Correct Order To Watch The Jesse Stone Movies
Image
Somewhere, at this very moment, someone's dad is probably watching one of the Jesse Stone movies on DVD, and that man is having a great afternoon. After this, he might pop in "Ford v. Ferrari" for the seventh time.

The character of Jesse Stone began his life in a series of airport novels written by the late Robert B. Parker. The first Jesse Stone novel, "Night Passage," was published in 1997 and it followed the titular former LAPD detective (and divorced recovering alcoholic) as he investigated money laundering and murder in Paradise, Massachusetts. Parker had a hit on his hands with "Night Passage," and proceeded to writer eight additional Jesse Stone novels from 1998 up until his death in 2010. Jesse Stone had become an institution at that point, and other authors began writing Stone novels in Parker's style. There have been 11 additional Jesse Stone novels written after Parker's death.

Starting in 2005, Jesse...

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: October 2023
Image
There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.

In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.

Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: April 2023
Image
As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.

Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

The only other major TV original of note this month is Dead Ringers, based on the 1988 David Cronenberg film of the same name,...

New ‘Jesse Stone’ Movie Ordered By Hallmark; Tom Selleck Returns As Star
Jesse Stone fans’ prayers have been answered — after a three-year break, the popular Jesse Stone TV movie franchise will resume with its signature star, Tom Selleck, on a new network, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Hallmark has picked up Jesse Stone: Lost In Paradise, a ninth movie in the detective series, which is in pre-production in Halifax, Nova Scotia for a fall 2015 premiere. The previous eight movies aired on CBS, which opted not to order more after No. 8, Jesse Stone: Benefit Of The Doubt, despite its respectable premiere viewership, 13 million.

The broadcast networks have pulled away from original movies. CBS also dropped the venerable Hallmark Hall Of Fame franchise in 2011 after 16 years. After a three-year run on ABC, Hhf last year moved to Hallmark Channel. With both Hhf and the Jesse Stone films, Hallmark already had been airing reruns of the previously produced installments to solid ratings.

“Just about anywhere I go,...

Even with "Benefit of the Doubt" Jesse Stone Doesn't Take Any Chances
You can’t ask too much from a TV movie more than about 90-minutes of entertainment, whether it’s heartwarming drama, an extended sitcom-quality comedy, or another entry in a mystery series. The Jesse Stone capers, with Tom Selleck as the titular crime solver, have been going strong since 2005 and this latest release marks its eighth outing. To the credit of the Jesse Stone franchise, it’s done more in telling a coherent story over its 8-movie run with just 90-minutes apiece than many cop procedurals do, and that makes each of the TV movies all the better for what they are. Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt is a slow-paced, interesting little mystery buoyed by Selleck’s ability to deliver dry comedy tinged with that satisfying “I’m getting too old for this shit” vibe.

'Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt' may be Tom Selleck's last Stone turn at CBS
If you enjoy Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone, catch him while you can.

That's the word from the Emmy-winning actor himself. Having wrapped up the sophomore round of his CBS police drama "Blue Bloods," returning this fall for a third season, he's also appearing in the network's eighth film about novelist Robert B. Parker's small-town-loner New England sleuth. "Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt" airs Sunday, May 20, and Selleck says it could be his last time in the role ... for CBS, anyway.

"Bless them, they've done eight of these that always perform far above what's normally in the time slot," he tells Zap2it. "but they are constantly perplexed [by the thought], 'We're not in the two-hour-movie business.' That being said, that's not the end of Jesse, or at least I don't think so. There are a lot of other entities, whether cable or even feature films, but this is most...
