National Award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar visited the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok and called it a stunning example of the combination between Hinduism and Buddhism.

Bhandarkar, who is currently holidaying in Thailand, took to X (formerly called Twitter) and shared a video and a picture from the shrine, which he said represents guardian spirits in Thai animist beliefs.

“Visited the #ErawanShrine in #Bangkok, a stunning example of syncretism between #Hinduism and #Buddhism. Built in 1956, this shrine represents guardian spirits in Thai animist beliefs. #Feelingblessed #Thailand #ErawanShrine,” he wrote.

The Erawan Shrine, which houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of Brahma, the Hindu God of creation. The name also refers to Mahabrahma, the ruler of the Brahma realm in Buddhist cosmology.

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has given a glimpse from his “travel life” in Thailand and said that he is soaking in the energetic and eclectic vibes of ‘The Land of Smiles’. Madhur on Sunday took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared a picture of himself standing near a market area.

The filmmaker is dressed in all white and completed his look with sunglasses.

Saanand Verma of ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’ fame, who also appears in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Babli Bouncer’, is all set for the Ajay Devgn-starrer ‘Thank God’. He said: “Casting Director Shahid Hasan loved my work and he proposed my name to Indra Kumar ji. He approved my casting as he has also seen my work and liked it.”

Sharing his experience of working with Sidharth Malhotra, Saanand said: “He is a gem of a person and I was delighted to work with him. I have noticed he has a very nice sense of humour, very witty and very intelligent who knows exactly what it is to be delivered.”

Saanand plays a doctor in the film. “My family doctor is quite funny. His name is Motwani. So I just imagined some of his facial expressions during my act in ‘Thank God’ and that helped.”

He said: “I have played the character of Jaggi Paji. My character is an important one because the entire story of ‘Babli Bouncer’ revolves around the pub.”

“Jaggi Paji is the one who brings out the idea of female bouncers to tackle the behaviour of female customers who get out of control sometimes. There is an emotional relationship between a boss and her subordinate. Jaggi Paji is also someone who promotes and motivates Babli a lot.”

National Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar says he wanted to make a comedy and a slice-of-life film and that is how ‘Babli Bouncer’ happened to him.

Talking about directing a subject like this, Bhandarkar says: “I am a very humorous person in real life. It’s just that after ‘Chandni Bar’, people assumed that I love to do dark cinema. But when I got ‘Babli Bouncer’, I wanted to make a comedy, slice of life film.”

He added: “I felt I wanted to showcase a world of bouncers. It’s an interesting world and how these people come from their villages. On top of that, after the first pandemic hit us so badly, I felt we really need a comedy film that people can watch with their family.”
