It’s been four years since the release of the second sequel to the reboot/remake of Death Race – Death Race: Inferno – and three since the fourth film was sneakily announced by it’s writer Tony Giglio on Twitter, but now Death Race 4, now retitled Death Race: Beyond Anarchy has got its first trailer!

Roger Corman, the legendary film producer who has produced over 400 projects in his career, will be producing a reboot of Death Race 2000 called Death Race 2050 for Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and it will star Malcolm McDowell.
The film is described in the press released as being “an outrageous action-packed film and reboot of the original Death Race 2000.” The story will revolve around a horde of automotive gladiators who earn points for killing pedestrians as well as their fellow drivers.
Corman was a producer on all of the previous Death Race films. The first one was released in 1975 and starred David Carradine, Simone Griffeth, and a young Sylvester Stallone. Paul W.S. Anderson remade the film in 2008, and that was followed by a couple of direct to DVD prequels, Death Race 2: Frankenstein Lives in 2011 and Death Race 3: Inferno in 2013.

Just like "Jarhead 2: Field Of Fire," we're not sure why these decisions are made, or by whom, but for some reason, Universal has decided it's in their best interest to make a sequel to "The Man With The Iron Fists." The much hyped martial arts flick, directed by genre enthusiast and Wu-Tang Clan member RZA, was a resounding disappointment and box office failure, but at the very least, this followup includes his involvement. Titled "The Man With The Iron Fists: Sting Of The Scorpion," Roel Reiné — a specialist at this sort of thing with "The Marine 2," "Death Race 3: Inferno," and "The Scorpion King 3: Battle For Redemption" among his credits — directs the movie co-written by RZA and John Jarrell ("Romeo Must Die") that seems to involve more gangs fighting each other. There are no actual plot details, which hardly matters, since the first movie barely made any sense anyway,...

Exclusive: Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production arm of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, has signed a first-look deal with Threshold Animation Studios for CG-animated family features adapted from recognizable family-oriented brands. Universal will distribute films spawned from the deal. The companies first teamed on straight-to-dvd titles Lego: The Adventures Of Clutch Powers and Bionicle: The Legend Reborn. The pact gives Universal 1440 a stream of potential CG fare for its library of home video releases geared toward family audiences including the feature-length The Little Engine That Could film, the Emmy-winning PBS series Curious George, and the Barbie DVD film franchise.
In addition to the children’s titles, Universal 1440 has bolstered its home video offerings with non-theatrical franchise spinoffs including Death Race 3: Inferno, Curse Of Chucky, and the upcoming Scorpion King 4: Quest For Power. These VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray releases have built a burgeoning business for Universal’s home video development and production banner.

Danny Trejo is 69 years old and still kicking ass – much more ass than he should be. It’d be one thing if his only leading role this year was Machete Kills, but Trejo has a whole list of titles he’ll be appearing in this year alone, with his most recent action adventure being Dead In Tombstone. Directed by Roel Reiné (Death Race 2/Death Race: Inferno), Trejo brings hell to Earth in this undead Western thriller, making a deal with the Devil, played by none other than Mickey Rourke. If Guerrero (Trejo) can deliver the souls of the six men who double-crossed him, he’ll save his own hell-cursed afterlife – assuming he can trust the Devil.
When you watch a straight-to-dvd/Blu-Ray Danny Trejo film, there are certain expectations and assumptions, but Dead In Tombstone is on the higher end of this scale. Personally, I love Westerns, and I love horror influenced thrillers,...

Don't worry, if you haven't seen any Death Race movies yet, you won't have trouble following Death Race 3: Inferno. But if you haven't seen the one that started it all, Roger Corman's Death Race 2000, then you're doing something wrong with your life. Anyways, Death Race 2 director Roel Reiné and writer Tony Giglio are back for part three, as well as actors Luke Goss, Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames, and Tanit Phoenix. Find out how Universal's Blu-ray measures up after the jump. The 2008 Death Race is a prequel to the 1975 original, with Jason Statham taking on the role of pre-David Carradine Frankenstein. 2010's Death Race 2 is a prequel to the Statham one, showing how the masked-persona of Frankenstein is created. In that one Luke Goss plays Lucas, a driver for the mob who's sent to Terminal Island. He competes in the Death Race, does well, then...

Director: Roel Reine. Writers: Tony Giglio, Paul W.S. Anderson, Tony Giglio and Paul W.S. Anderson. Cast: Luke Goss, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, Dougray Scott, Fred Koehler, and Tanit Phoenix. The Death Race series of films are turning into a bit of a franchise. The original, starring David Carridine, came out way back in 1975. Then, Paul W. S. Anderson remade the original in 2008. The remake starred a very angry Jason Statham. Since 2008, the lead role of stunt driver Frankenstein has been played by the soft-spoken Luke Goss. Director Roel Reine has made the latest two sequels: Death Race 2 (2010) and the film reviewed here, Death Race: Inferno (2013). Reine's latest is his best to date. Reine is perfecting the action film with his frenetic directing style. Meanwhile, this second sequel blends genres. The action genre is prominent, but there are elements of romance and the thriller genre here, as well. Overall, Death Race: Inferno...

I’ll be honest, I completely forgot Roel Reiné was going ahead with another Death Race after already presenting a horrid sequel (Death Race 2) to an averagely enjoyable B-Movie (Death Race), but low and behold here I am writing my review of Death Race 3: Boobs – um, I mean, Death Race 3: Inferno. Seriously though, I thought the above picture was appropriate because half the bloody movie was spent with a camera focused on Tanit Phoenix’s cleavage, only to pull away when a car blew up or someone died. Exploitation is one thing, but I mean c’mon, even I can admit the sexuality was laughably overplayed – and I’m a dude.
Here’s the thing though – Death Race 2 was an unnecessary and slobbish sequel to a B-Movie only hardcore genre junkies enjoyed, literally building up to the final conflict only to abruptly end the film and...

Danny Trejo’s an icon, not just for the Latino community, but across the board as a general badass. While 1995 could be considered his breakout year with roles in Desperado and Heat, Trejo’s career began ten years prior to that. Seldom has he branched past his tough guy physique, although he has had turns in Anchorman and Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids series. While you’d think the man is an intimidating presence, he’s one of the kindest people to sit down and have a conversation with. And that’s exactly what we were lucky enough to do recently, as we discussed his mentor role in Death Race 3: Inferno, and his status [ Read More ]

The Death Race franchise is an interesting anomaly. While Paul W.S. Anderson’s first picture got a theatrical release in 2008, the rest of the franchise has been destined for straight-to-dvd releases. You’d think the quality of the pictures would drop, but instead they’ve only increased. A lot of that has to do with Luke Goss’ physically intimidating, yet likable take on Frankenstein, the driver trying to win his freedom. Death Race 3: Inferno marks the second outing for Goss as the character, and we had a chance to sit down with him exclusively and discuss the franchise and how much ass he can kick, both hand-to-hand and inside a car. High-octane car-crashing sequel Death Race 3: Inferno's out on DVD and Blu-ray. Here's Duncan to share a few of its craziest moments...
Chances are that if you’re reading this, then you’re already a convert to the ways of the Death Race franchise, so what you’ll probably want to know is how the new film, Death Race: Inferno, holds up compared to part two. Thankfully, Inferno is just as much B-movie fun, sticking to the traditional sequel convention of being bigger, louder and considerably more insane.
While Death Race 2 made every effort to build up the new character of Carl ‘Luke’ Lucas (played by Luke Goss), while introducing his own story arc, Inferno centres almost entirely on action and makes absolutely no apologies for it. So what better way to review the film than to highlight the more gloriously bonkers moments that perpetuate the it.

The bare minimum an action film needs to do is deliver on its genre-inherent promise of action, and to that end Death Race: Inferno succeeds, but it also shoots itself in the foot. And not in a way that adds to its fulfillment of that action quota. While fast cuts have certainly become a staple of action film editing in recent years, they’re also a sign of poor choreography and not getting the shots needed to let a fight scene or a car chase make sense when watched in a straightforward manner. Death Race: Inferno has this problem in spades making it hard to care if Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames, or Dougray Scott lend the film some acting credibility or that Tanit Phoenix is naked for a few seconds on screen. In the end, the action is poorly shot, the acting is mostly miserable, and the writing attempts to...

The “Death Race” movies are what you would call forgettable. The franchise started with the Roger Corman-produced 1975 film “Death Race 2000″, then was rebooted in 2008 by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Jason Statham. The remake was followed up in 2010 with “Death Race 2″, a prequel that explored the origins of Frankenstein, a character briefly seen in the early parts of Anderson’s movie. Roel Reine, who directed that movie, returns for the sequel to the prequel, 2012′s “Death Race 3: Inferno”, which picks up where the last film left off. Or at least, I think it does. Like I said, the “Death Race” movies are nothing if not very forgettable genre affairs. You like them enough while you’re watching them, but once the credits roll, you’d be hardpressed to recall the plot. Having said that, I do believe that “Inferno” picks up where “Death Race 2″ left off,...

Moviefone's New Release Pick of the Week "Pina" (Criterion Collection) What's It About? Director Wim Wenders ("Paris, Texas," "Wings of Desire") tells the story of Pina Bausch, an acclaimed German dance choreographer and instructor who passed away just days before the start of the planned documentary; Wenders films her most celebrated works on the streets of Germany and on a stage filled with waterfalls, sand and the wild elements of earth. And he shot it all in 3D. See It Because: "Pina" eschews the characteristics of a regular documentary and being able to witness her creativity in action -- with genuinely hypnotic 3D technology -- is the best tribute possible to a unique artistic identity. Lastly, It's a German 3D dance film. If you're not at least enticed on a visual level, we're not sure what to tell you. New on DVD & Blu-ray "Death Race 3: Inferno" What's It About?...

Death Race 3: Inferno arrives on DVD and Blu-ray today courtesy of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, and to get you fiends out there pumped up, Dread Central recently caught up with the man behind the Frankenstein mask, Luke Goss.
In this third Death Race flick, we find Goss' character, Carl Lucas, once again getting the royal screwjob but this time by the douchebag owner of a South African prison named Niles York (Dougray Scott), who will stop at nothing to ensure that Frankenstein doesn't win the newest Death Race through the dangerous streets and terrains of the unforgiving Kalahari Desert.
Directed by Roel Reiné, Death Race 3 also stars Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames, Tanit Phoenix, Robin Shou and Fred Koehler. At the recent press day for the sequel, we spoke to Goss about what was different for him this time around while reprising his role as Frankenstein and heard more about...

End of Watch End of Watch made my Top Ten Movies of 2012 so of course I'm going to recommend it. I haven't yet listened to writer/director David Ayer's audio commentary, but I'm looking forward to it as Blu-ray.com's review makes it sound incredibly informative: Writer/director David Ayer offers a scene by scene breakdown of End of Watch, discussing the authenticity of the film at great length, touching on the decision to avoid including a single corrupt cop, providing insight into development and implementation of the multi-camera narrative, and spending plenty of time on everything from the script to the performances to the Pov shifts between the police officers and the gangsters.
Ivan's Childhood (Criterion Collection) I have a review of this one in the works and it should be finished by this afternoon. That said, I will tell you I really liked this film and liked...

Nothing is more exciting than a fight to the death and with the release of Death Race 3: Inferno, on Blu-ray and DVD from 4th February, this has never been truer. Winner of four death races, Carl Lucas (Luke Goss) finds himself just one victory away from earning freedom for himself and his pit crew, but organisers and prison wardens are changing the track and the rules.

Death Race 3: Inferno
Stars: Luke Goss, Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames, Dougray Scott, Tanit Phoenix, Fred Koehler, Robin Shou | Written by Tony Giglio | Directed by Roel Reine
Universal have made quite a stock in trade of taking some of their fan-favourite franchises and cranking out straight to DVD sequels: Darkman, Tremors, The Scorpion King, American Pie hell – even the The Land Before Time series! One of their best current straight to DVD franchises is Death Race… Now in it’s third incarnation, the series is, in this reviewers humble opinion, actually one of the best low-budget action franchises around and despite any misgivings you may have, this third film keeps up the quality.
A sequel to the prequel, helmed once again by Dutch director Roel Reine – who directed the previous film in the franchise; and who seems to be specialising in directing Dtv sequels having lensed The Marine 2, Death Race 2...

For a straight to DVD franchise, the Death Race series is shaping up to be something quite impressive.
The second movie, wittily entitled Death Race 2 was actually a far better movie than the Paul Ws Anderson remake of the 1975 Roger Corman produced Paul Bartel directed original that came before it. The trick was it told a compelling story with a beginning, middle and ending and shot the action scenes with style without feeling like the camera was on a bungee rope whilst having an epileptic fit. Pwsa may be able to frame a nice visual but his genre narratives always seem to lack a satisfactory final act and embrace style often mistaking it for substance.
With Death Race 2, Luke Goss’s main character of a getaway driver who becomes a convict/superstar had a definite arc which paid off nicely come the ending. The second film’s director...

I liked Death Race 3 about as much as I enjoyed Death Race 2, and I have two theories on why stuff like this happens to an intelligent person who can plainly recognize sloppy, low-budget filmmaking when he sees it:
A. When a genre movie is produced directly for the video market, a seasoned viewer cannot help but lower their expectations a little. This makes them a little happier because they spent less money, and it may make them a little more charitable towards low-budget components like wooden acting, cheap sets, or chintzy special effects.
B. When a group of filmmakers are given a limited budget, relatively free rein, and a goal to make a simplistically entertaining action sequel ... sometimes fun things can happen.
That's not to imply that Death Race 3 ever comes close to transcending its "made for DVD" lineage, but to say that, within the realm of what it's shooting for,...

Death Race 3: Inferno, available on DVD/Blu-ray on January 22nd with deleted scenes and “making of” features, finds the legendary Frankenstein (aka Carl Lucas, played by Luke Goss) – the greatest Death Race driver of all time – battling for his freedom through the South African desert, in a vicious winner-take-all race that pits teams of convicts against each other to the death. Who would've thought that Roger Corman's 1975 cult classic indie pic 'Death Race 2000' starring a still fairly unknown Sylvester Stallone would one day spawn not only a remake, but a franchise?! Well, low and behold, we're now up to Part 3 in the series as 'Death Race: Inferno' hits Blu-Ray and DVD on January 22nd. The good news? Paul W.S. Anderson, the helmer behind the remake is not back for this entry. Instead it's director Roel Reiné who directed the previous installment 'Death Race 2'. And if you're ready for this new movie in the series, well then hopefully these 5 clips will get you pumped for the release. Check 'em out below along with the synopsis after the film clips.

Like racing to the death? Like clips? Then you’re in luck, buckaroo, because here are five clips from the direct-to-dvd action sequel “Death Race 3: Inferno”. Yes, it’s basically more of the same, but if you’re a fan of that, I guess that won’t be much of an issue, will it? Roel Reine, who directed the last sequel, returns to take the reins once again for “Inferno”. If I’m correct, this is a direct sequel to the last movie, but still a prequel to the first big-budget movie with Jason Statham. Probably. Does it really matter? Look, fast cars shooting at each other! Repentant convict Carl Lucas (Luke Goss) — aka Frankenstein— is a legendary driver in the brutal prison blood sport known as Death Race. Only one victory away from winning freedom, Lucas is plunged into his most vicious competition yet: the first ever Desert Death Race.
