Don't believe these positive reviews

Take a look at them. Most are made by people who have been "members" on IMDb for as long as the lifespan of a Mayfly.

These writings are clearly made by shills. This is the most blatant abuse of IMDb reviews I have ever seen. You'd think they would try harder with their scam to make it seem more convincing.

Why put all that effort into covering for a below average genre vehicle when they could've, instead, put the effort into making a good movie?

So many fake reviews

I normally won't review something however good or bad but after seeing a lot of the fake 9 and 10 ratings by members of the cast and crew it needs a balanced HONEST review - after all, people look at the overall rating and reviews to choose a film don't they? At the time of writing this has a 7.7 rating - so it's almost on a par with The Omen and The Exorcist right?

The dialogue is false and forced - the main 4 "actors" got tong-tied over and over again and nothing seemed natural - why didn't the director just say "try it one more time"?

Poor editing and ADR work - I know it was low budget but at least try and be professional about it - at times it looked like the whole film was dubbed badly

The story was decent but how many "bereaved parents life disintegrates in a supernatural setting" films need to be made? - There are many better ones and this is just full of cliché

If you want to be professionals then act like professionals and not have a "that will do" attitude - this made Ed Wood look like Hitchcock

If you make a film don't fake reviews and ratings because it really makes you sad, pathetic and needy

4/10 at best

Hilariously Bad. At first. Then it's Just Painful...

First and foremost, for anyone skeptical about the widespread accusations of fake, highly positive reviews for this movie, there is good news. All you have to do is watch the trailer, or the first few minutes, to find out how much of a joke it is. Really. It's that conspicuously bad.

I am entirely certain that the vast majority of raving reviews posted for this film on IMDb are fake. The filmmakers have obviously run a sadly successful campaign of spamming the site with sham accounts, and as another reviewer has pointed out, the ages of these accounts give them away.

I have also looked into many of these accounts to find that "Whispers" is the only film the owner has reviewed since the account's creation. Sloppy and shameful.

On to the actual review:

This movie does one thing well. It manages to be entertaining in its sophomoric attempt at suspense and psychological horror. It does this for about the first ten minutes. Then it's just the kind of bad that makes you want to fall into a deep sleep, and upon waking, express your anger and bewilderment at its IMDb rating.

There isn't much to be said about the film's substance. It has none. The actors are so bad that they turn a substandard horror/thriller script into what plays out like a soap opera. Everything that the film tries to do falls flat. The parts of the script that could have worked as semi-decent horror are utterly ruined by the poor execution of everything from acting to set design, cinematography and editing.

At first, trying to keep an open mind, I thought: maybe surrealism? Absurdism? Maybe it's trying to be this incoherent and ridiculous? I actually couldn't tell if it was intended or if it was simply the generally clunky performance of the actors and filmmakers. However, intended or not, it quickly ceases to be entertaining, and also becomes exceedingly obvious that "Whispers" takes itself very seriously. Eventually, after wasting 90 minutes of my life, I came to the incontrovertible conclusion that, no. This movie is just bad. No need to overthink it. The filmmakers certainly didn't.

Don't Bother

This was just terrible. Quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen and I've seen Ishtar. There is nothing scary about this movie, it's not horror. It's suspenseful drama at best, and that's giving it too much credit. If you watch this movie you will wish you could get that hour and a half of your life back...but you can't. I unfortunately went off the average review and didn't actually read the red box reviews, until after I watched it. It was then that I realized all the 4 &5 star reviews all made reference to "girl power" and "go girl". I guess if a woman directs a movie it's automatically a great movie. My fiancé and I disagree.

Do Not Rent or Buy

This movie's reviews (9/10) (8/10) are the biggest troll job since you tubers were rick rolling folks. The camera is literally being walked around the actors in many scenes, the quality is worse than soap operas, the story would have been OK with a higher budget and a director to push the actors and get some actual emotion out of them. Poorly executed I've seen a better horror movie filmed with an iPhone (literally). The CGI (what little there is is completely disappointing and the other ghostly figures just look like mud people from Woodstock. The sound affects come from a soundboard you can download for any smart phone (i.e. The squeaky gate in the trailer and other sounds like the "mommy" cries) the music and voices seem like they can't coincide in this film and they must have used a tape recorder in a conference room to record the actors lines and dub over for the film.

A film that is so bad that there is no question whatsoever that the good reviews are all fake

Have you ever come across a film so bad that you sit there glued to your chair in complete amazement of how exactly it came to be on a diskette, and wondering what you have done so wrong in your life that you are now paying by watching it? If you have not, then I suggest you watch this disaster in movie-making.

Watch the Trailer

I wholeheartedly agree that the reviews saying this is a good movie are as fake as the Kardashians, but I don't think you need to go through much detecting to spot them. They're all pretty much the same, and have given this snore-fest between an 8 and 10 when it deserves a 2 at the most. Now yes, we all have different tastes, but within those tastes is a thing that is known as universally good or bad. This is one of those films that can be considered 100% universally bad, and I mean that even its creators know it is bad and so had to resort to either placing fake reviews or hiring a firm out to place them. I was going to post the link to one such firm but I don't think IMDb will allow me to and might reject my review because of it, but they are easy enough to Google and after a couple of clicks, you'll find them. At one such place you can get 200 reviews for $50, so we can now put to rest where the creators of this film went to. In closing, I have to agree with other posters. Don't fall for the fakes. Just watch the trailer and keep in mind that in the trailer the makers of this picked the best scenes - you can just imagine the crud that was left for the film itself.

DESPICABLE effort to DECEIVE with FAKE reviews

While I understand that if you make a bad film, and you know it is a bad film, and no studio wants to buy it because it is a bad film and you are forced to sell and rent it by yourself on Amazon and through Redbox, the temptation to misrepresent such a film and to falsify and engineer fake reviews must be great. However, there is such a thing known as ethics, and so the practice of such misrepresentation is just despicable.

In short, this film (if one can even call it that) is so awful that the "horror" it is trying to sell you does not come from the screen, but from the realization that you fell for it. It is so dis-interesting and has so many plot holes and so much tedious confusion that one can make a game out of counting just how many plot holes it actually has, and how many times any companions doze off.

To be honest, no description of it can adequately describe its misguided ludicrousness or the way its infinite and varied sins against the traits of good cinema combine to produce one of the most banal, trite, hackneyed, clichéd, vapid, stale, tired and unimaginative films ever.

The good thing is that if one possesses a bit of common sense, spotting the fakes is quite easy. Sort by "Loved It", look at the join dates, other reviews, and look at the similarities in the made-up Reviewed By or Author Names, then click on each name and look at the similarities in all the UserNames (which are all different and purposefully changed from the Reviewed By or Author names). Finally, look at the style of writing in each positive review and especially at the titles, every which one contains the word "Horror!" (although once my review is seen, chances are some will change). Lastly, sort by Chronological order and look at the negative reviews from people who have actually seen it and do not stand to gain or lose be leaving a real review. See how everyone agrees it is utter garbage? Now look again and see how soon after these real reviews, three or four "excellent" ones are posted in order to hide and balance out the negative real ones. Again, pretty simple to spot if you look.

Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. Do NOT fall for the four or five reviews saying this is "a woman's film", or the eight reviews all stating that the bad reviewers are "haters" (LAUGH out LOUD), or worse, the four or five reviews that urge you to buy it over renting it. They are, each and every one, fake.

I'll Raise your Real but Negative Review with Two Fake Positive Ones

By now the desperate attempts at deception from the filmmaker to get you to watch have been made pretty obvious by a few "real" reviews, but it seems that a few people keep falling for the amped-up fake thumbs and ratings.

Trust me when I tell you that this movie IS THAT bad and that every single positive review has been left by the same person.

At RedBox, I think they pay out half of what a rental costs, so I guess morals are bought and sold cheaply. As it turns out though, you are able to now actually find clips of this "Whispers (2015) Movie" and see for yourself the reactions of others and better yet, the disaster this film really is.

The film is in effect, so god-awful bad, that the director, Tammi Sutton should stick to what she knows best such as writing fake reviews fo-, oh wait, she's pretty terrible at hat too.

Laughable "Horror"

The creator who is obviously the one who is having a conniption fit in the latest positive reviews needs to seek help and a writing, directing and producing class, stat! This drivel of an awful, laughable "horror" film is worse than sitting through a dentists's appointment, and yet, desperately, the outed creator is still trying to sell the people they imagine as "poor and unwitting" into giving them their $1 per rental. DO NOT DO IT. It would be better to take that dollar and do something much more interesting with it than watch this awful, laughable film, such as, burn it, make an origami peacock out of it, bury it in the yard, put it down next to the newspaper in the parakeet's cage, use it for a magic trick where you tear it in half, donate it, throw it out your window ... there are literally a million things you could do with it that would be far more entertaining that watching this.

Crap and fake reviews

I will never trust the review system of IMDb after watching this awful waste of time. IMDb should be ashamed of even listing this in their database with fake reviews.

To sum it up then it is awful acting. Soaps do a better job. The director is way off. I wonder where they picked him up. Sound is annoying to say the least. The story doesn't hold water. Then they try to mimic good horror movies in the end like The Others.

Pathetic!

The HORROR is in the reviews

I'm always interested in new horror movies and WHISPERS caught my eye from all the positive reviews.

The movie starts weak and ends even weaker. Do not believe the hype and made up reviews. Look through them and see the similarities that now, on a second pass, I notice like glaring lights. See how many of the positive reviews have the exact same phrasing saying this reminded the viewer of (insert other creepy movie but that was really good and not awful like this one is), and it is always all capitalized as in "This reminded me of 'THE SHUSHBUNCH'."

You can't say the fakers aren't smart and spent what I imagine to be an insurmountable amount of effort on trying to fool people into renting their lousy movie. At least the think they are.

Skip this one like the plague.

For those that fell victim to the fake reviews for this film

In this title, Whispers, you have a film that eventually takes a virtual poop, center-stage, on everything it means to be a film maker. To say that the makers of this film dropped the ball here is the understatement of a lifetime. The ball has not only been dropped, but has fallen off of a cliff, onto the edge and off another, steeper cliff.

On a visual, creative, sound and technical level this film has regressed the film industry five years. Five long years. Scratch that. It has regressed the industry into medieval times. The characters seemed to have been mathematically perfected by this team of a one-person producer, writer, director, multiple- personality Tammi Sutton, and written to be dumbest, most uninteresting and boring characters in the history of humankind. And the actors? No disrespect, they were merely doing a job, but really? One at least should come clean to the shilling going on here. Whispers is an awful, awful film which the film makers know is awful, awful so they have no option BUT to shill it. Oh wait, they actually do. They have the option of not having been dumb enough to make it in the first place or, having made it, chalk it up to a really, really bad investment and move on. Instead, they want to make the viewing public pay for their mistake and so they consistently and in-your-face lie about it.

I strongly suggest contacting IMDb through the report buttons and more so through their community desk (Google "IMDb get satisfaction page"). Yes, it is a little frustrating, but they actually do listen on there. Point out the issue that for every review calling this title out, the makers post TWO 10-star reviews to negate, and bump up the rating, effectively using IMDb to shill out their movie. I wonder if there is legal action IMDb can take against them upon viewing ip addresses? Anyway, the very essence of IMDBs reputation and credibility hinges on it providing (as best it can) an accurate representation of the public's opinion on movies. Take this away and what do you have left? Make sure you make them aware of what is happening.

It's not a HORRor but a HORRible movie

I love horror movies, so after watching almost all greatest horror movies of all time, I was checking latest ones on IMDb to add to my watch list. I stumbled upon this one with an excellent rating and reviews. I was happy to see that it was available on Redbox, so I rented it out. From there, my whole evening went downhill. What I went through, another reviewer has explained exactly. I seriously don't get the above 7 rating for this movie. The acting from beginning to end is so awful that I can't even explain. My husband directed a movie in his college which I still make fun of, but even that was better than this pathetic movie. If you want to torture your brain and eyes, go and watch this movie. I did a quick google search and couldn't find anything great about this movie, nothing is listed about it. Save yourself and avoid it at all cost.
