We’ve got some exciting news about the second season of H/Jack. This time, it’s shifting gears and will take place in a completely different environment. While the first season kept us on the edge of our seats with a gripping story set on a plane, the new season is upping the ante in a surprising way.
Without giving away too much right away, let’s just say that the tension we felt in the first season will definitely be back, but in a new and thrilling location.
The stakes are as high as ever, and the creators seem determined to keep the suspense alive in a fresh setting. We can expect the same intense, fast-paced storytelling that made the show so captivating the first time around.
Now, here’s the twist: H/Jack season 2 will take place on a train. That’s right, we’re moving from the skies to the rails.

If you're looking for a high-concept, mysterious sci-fi show in the vein of "Under the Dome," "From," or "Manifest," Stephen King has a recommendation for you. The master of horror has always loved sharing recommendations for spooky genre offerings on social media, and this week he took to Threads (he left the cesspool formerly known as Twitter in November) to highlight the UK-made series "The Midwich Cuckoos."
"The Midwich Cuckoos (Amazon): Surprised there hasn't been more talk about this," King recently posted on Threads. "It's a brilliant re-imagining of John Wyndham's classic sci-fi/horror novel." The title of one of Wyndam's best-known novels may not sound familiar to you, but the name of its earlier film adaptation might: "The Midwich Cuckoos" became "Village of the Damned" when Wolf Rilla adapted it in 1960. That version of the story is considered an all-time-great horror movie, alternately dubbed as an "excellent...

“Better Man,” the Australian-made biopic inspired by the life of British pop star Robbie Williams, received a leading six nominations for the 2025 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (Aacta) International Awards on Tuesday. That reinforced the Oz academy’s love affair with writer-director Michael Gracey‘s (“The Greatest Showman”) musical spectacular, in which Williams is transformed into a chimpanzee, after it garnered a record-breaking 16 nominations at Aacta’s local awards earlier this month. “Better Man” is nominated for Best Film alongside “The Brutalist,” which tied with six noms, as well as Denis Villeneuve‘s epic sequel “Dune: Part Two” and critical darlings “Anora” and “Emilia Pérez.”

The synopsis reads: “Mac (Idris Elba) is the best at what he does, driving a big rig truck across the country with a “no questions asked” policy about the goods he transports. When he takes his tenacious teenage daughter along for a job,...

“Hijack” star Idris Elba is set to front a new documentary for the BBC exploring the U.K.’s knife crime academic. “Idris Elba: A Year of Knife Crime” (working title) will see the star explore the reality of knife crime and potential solutions to solving it. As part of the doc he’ll speak to offenders, bereaved families, the police and even Prime Minister Keir Starmer as well as exploring his own life choices, which took him down a very different path.
“So many people dismiss knife crime as something that doesn’t affect them, assuming it’s a Black and Brown urban and gang-related problem – but this couldn’t be further from the truth,” Elba said. “White, middle class and rural areas are also affected, perpetrators are getting younger and fear is spreading. Apple TV Europe boss and BFI chair Jay Hunt engaged in a rare public Q&a hosted by “The Traitors” U.K. presenter Claudia Winkleman during the BFI London Film Festival, where she discussed her lengthy career in U.K. public service broadcasting, move to streaming and the U.K. screen industry at large.
Among the advice Hunt shared with the audience was the importance of acknowledging failure and taking risks. Of the latter, she revealed that “Slow Horses” – one of AppleTV+’s biggest U.K. hits, which has since gone on to win BAFTA and Emmy awards – had been considered a risky investment, with the U.S. streamer only picking it up after it was turned down by the BBC.
“I think you have to take risks,” said Hunt. “It’s interesting. ‘Slow Horses’ is a very good example where it was passed on by the BBC. I think...

Even though the pilot’s life is threatened, he stays focused on how to save the passengers. ♦ Take This Plane to North Korea or Else We All Die! In “Hijack 1971”, Tae-In served as a fighter pilot in the Korean Air Force. During the 60s and the 70s, South Korean pilots played an integral role in combat missions during the Vietnamese War. Now that Tae-In works as a pilot for a commercial airline, having to confront the enemy on a domestic flight is probably not the first thing he thought of when he headed into work that day.

Amazon and Apple, two Silicon Valley behemoths, are teaming up more closely in the streaming arena.
Later this month, Apple TV+ will be available via Prime Video in the U.S. as an add-on subscription for $9.99 per month, Amazon announced Wednesday. That’s the same price Apple charges for the stand-alone streaming service.
Apple TV+ joins Prime Video’s collection of more than 100 add-on subscription options in the U.S., which include Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max, Paramount Global’s Paramount+, Sony’s Crunchyroll and Amazon-owned MGM+.
The deal to bring Apple TV+ into Prime Video is part of Amazon’s strategy to aggregate as many entertainment options as it can for customers — available on one bill, in one app.
“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming,” Mike Hopkins, SVP and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in announcing the pact.

It was a tense time in Korean history. In 1971, a young man named Kim Sang-tae hijacked a domestic passenger plane, demanding to be flown to North Korea. The story shocked the nation and highlighted societal tensions between North and South that continued long after.
Director Kim Sung-Han brings this tragic event to the screen with Hijack 1971. Starring Ha Jung-woo as Tae-In, a former fighter pilot now turned commercial co-pilot, the film recreates the nerve-racking drama that unfolded in the sky. We also meet security threat Yong-Dae, played compellingly by Yeo Jin-goo, who commandeers the plane mid-flight.
Shooting in his home country of South Korea and drawing on the real accounts, Kim Sung-Han aimed to honor those impacted while crafting an entertaining thriller. The review will discuss the characters’ emotional journeys, the visceral atmosphere of suspense in the close quarters of the plane, and how effectively the film addresses its profound historical backdrop even years later.

Only eight months after the last Emmy ceremony (which was delayed due to the strikes), the Primetime Emmy Awards are back, although there were some big surprises in store. Everyone (myself included) expected The Bear to own every category it was nominated in. While it did well, winning many big categories including Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress, it lost Best Comedy Series (and actress) to Hacks.
Netflix’s controversial limited series Baby Reindeer also cleaned up, nabbing awards for star and creator Richard Gadd plus co-star Jessica Gunning. But, FX was the evening’s big winner, with their epic series, Shogun, dominating the drama categories, with the great Hiroyuki Sanada winning the prize for Best Actor, and Anna Sawai taking Best Actress, alongside the show’s Best Drama win. For the second time this year, Hollywood gathered to honor TV’s biggest stars.
After the 2023 ceremony was delayed to January 2024 by last year’s Hollywood strikes, it’s only been eight months since TV’s biggest stars gathered at Los Angeles’ LA Live Peacock Theatre to announce the Emmy winners. Like months ago, “The Bear” stars Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach once again won lead actor and supporting actor in a comedy, and co-star Colón-Zayas also won her first Emmy in the supporting actress race. “Hacks” star Jean Smart won lead actress in a comedy, and in the biggest surprise of the night, HBO’s “Hacks” won outstanding comedy over “The Bear,” which many believed to be the frontrunner.
“The Bear” broke its own record of 10 comedy wins for a single season, which it achieved last year, with its 11 trophies on Sunday, including directing for Christopher Storer. FX...

TV’s biggest night is back for a second time this year, with the 76th Annual Emmy Awards back to their regularly-scheduled September ceremony. The impact of 2023’s Hollywood strikes is still rippling through the industry — including through the 75th Emmys, which took place earlier this year, in January — but the 2023-2024 Emmy nominees delivered another excellent year of television.
Despite the back-to-back ceremonies, the Emmys eligibility period holds strong; this ceremony will honor TV shows that premiered between June 2023 and May 2024. That includes pre-strike premieres like “The Bear” Season 2 and spring 2024 hits like “Hacks” Season 3. This was the first year without a lot of usual suspects in the Emmy race, such as “Succession,” “Ted Lasso,” “Barry,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” other favorites like “The Gilded Age,” “The Bear,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “The Crown” are still in the running.

The odd one out in that regard is the male star of “The Bear,” Jeremy Allen White, who was lauded for his 27 minutes and 18 seconds of work in the first season finale and is now looking to prevail with less than half that time in the second season closer.
The six current comedy actor contenders asked voters to consider their work in episodes in which they appear for an average of 16 minutes and 58 seconds (or 49.26% of the total running time). This data was calculated using a simple definition of stand-alone screen time, which is any time a given performer can be seen on screen or heard off screen. Contiguous moments of silent and non-visible scene time were not counted.

This season, the Emmy Awards celebrates its 76th anniversary. What began as a modest ceremony with five awards at the Hollywood Athletic Club has evolved into television’s biggest night, celebrating excellence throughout the industry. In the age of “peak TV” with close to 600 original scripted series, the nominations recognize the importance of the writers, performers and all those who worked on television programs in the past year.

When Kieran Culkin won the 2023 Best Drama Actor Emmy for his 20-minute and 44-second performance in the “Church and State” episode of “Succession,” he had a lower amount of physical screen time than all but one of his challengers. Now, five of the category’s newest candidates fall far below his total, with none even cracking 30 minutes as four comfortably did last year.
The six current drama actor contenders asked voters to consider their work in episodes in which they appear for an average of 14 minutes and 34 seconds (or 31.67% of the total running time). This data was calculated using a simple definition of stand-alone screen time, which is any time a given performer can be seen on screen or heard off screen. ‘Fallout,’ ‘The Bear,’ ‘True Detective: Night Country’ Top Nielsen’s Most-Watched 2024 Emmy Nominees
Ahead of Sunday’s telecast of the Primetime Emmy Awards on ABC, Nielsen has unveiled its ranking for the most-watched titles and talent nominated this year.
“The nominees for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards demonstrate the power of both new and long-running programming to attract viewers’ time and attention,” the ratings firm said in a Thursday statement. “By understanding how audiences are voting with their time, brands and platforms can ensure they’re reaching audiences where they are and create meaningful partnerships with the talent they are investing their time in.”
In order to align with Emmy rules, Nielsen focused on the eligibility period of June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024. For the Best Drama and Best Comedy categories, Nielsen measured time spent watching the season that occurred within that window for which a given title was nominated. Meanwhile, Best Actor and Actress nominees included any titles — both movies and series — in which...

Lupin and Hijack creator George Kay is launching an All3 Media-backed indie.
Observatory Pictures has been set up in partnership with New Pictures, the All3Media-owned drama producer behind shows including Kay’s ITV drama The Long Shadow.
Under terms of the pact, all of Observatory’s projects will be co-produced with New Pictures, with All3Media International holding international distribution rights.
Kay will work closely with New Pictures’ CEO Willow Grylls and executive producer Matt Sandford. He will look to create and shown “ambitious, commercially-successful high-end drama series” for streamers and networks in the UK and internationally.
We understand Kay’s previous indie, Idiotlamp Productions, which he ran with director Jim Field-Smith, will remain operational, but only for existing IP such as Hijack. All new Kay creations will go through Observatory.
“This new partnership affords me the opportunity to create ambitious new shows and the freedom to secure the most...
