    Madness Returns

When American McGee just contemplating his Alice, none of the game developers did not even think about how to make a fantastic story in the Gothic novel with blood, dead characters in the style of Tim Burton and too high levels of violence. So when American MacGee's Alice saw the light - it was a small but very noticeable revolution. McGee then tried every possible way to exploit the idea of warped fairy tales in serials games, but nothing could compare with the success of the original. Finally, the Americana was able to convince management to allocate serious EA for an art project budget and to find promising studio in Shanghai. During the three years of life in China McGee has not only changed my outlook, but was able to create an almost perfect product - Alice: The Madness Returns.

Continuing mild obsession grew out of teen girl in tattered Alice McGee emphasized the patchwork narrative. The heroine is still suffering from the effects of fire from a distant childhood, trying to find the lost memories under the supervision of a doctor in a psychiatric hospital. The story jumps between different fragments of the difficult life of the heroine, mixed with her adventures in Wonderland. This combination of reality and pseudo-reality leaves plenty of strange impression. A leisurely walk on the unnamed English city of the 19th century (judging by the construction of the subway, most likely meaning London) seem to be boring and inept, as well as hints of a strange relationship with Alice's public houses, brothels and other such dubious institutions. Moreover, conventional reality is not too gray glue fractured journey through the vibrant world of miracles in search of lost memories. The creators are trying to create a contrast between the realities, but playing at this point there is no passing feeling of boredom. But Wonderland - offers a journey into the world created is probably the most talented designers, game industry. Can think of Alice: The Madness Returns, as an interactive Biennale heirs Giger and Dali. Giant dilapidated objects of everyday life, schizophrenic biomechanics, puppet decadence and light touch of Gothic cause just a storm of emotions. Add to this the main character in the style of Gothic dolls from the Japanese company Volks with fully animated hair splitting into small locks in the wind. Staying true to the genre of platforming with puzzle elements, Alice: The Madness Returns skillfully plays with reality, offering perfect harmony with the mini-game, very much Alice, Godzilla, 2D arcade, chess puzzles, hunting for flying their noses and bloody battle with teapots, fishes, maps , wasps, samurai (other than a dress in this chapter for Alice) and mud Crank with doll faces from the world of Nier. Typically, the phase matches are held with a small set of weapons. In the arsenal of Alice: a sharp knife, pepper, pepper shooting at a distance, an umbrella, reflective projectiles, radio-controlled watch kamikaze rabbits and jump rope with a powerful head of a horse that can destroy even the most recalcitrant obstacles. All these weapons could be greatly improved by using the scattered and hidden world of enemies thousands of baby teeth. They can also be used to solve puzzles or finding secrets. In addition, Alice can plan on the air, perform a double jump, fall (to see the world from a different angle or to penetrate into the small hole) and become invulnerable, moving quickly in the form of colorful butterflies. We can not say that the combat mechanics as something apart from the competition, but boring and difficult to call these fights. If you do not compare with Bayonetta or Devil May Cry.

P.S. It seems that even Tim Burton would envy game design - is the best cat and his beautiful hatter in the movie. It would be nice to unite this couple. Yet Wonderland by Burton - it nuarnye tone design here is built around the word miracle, Gothic atmosphere of the same blob of blood and gives a very strange monsters. But I think that both versions would have been pleased himself Lewis Carroll. Well, you know, when he found himself in Wonderland ...

This is how you do a sequel.

As the title suggests, one of the glaring problems with most sequels is that they try too hard to relive the elements that made its predecessor famous, and wind up just rehashing it to nauseating results. Not with this game! Here you are treated to all of the nostalgia of the first, with new elements and visuals that are just a taste of the first game but a total treat for your senses. The story is great (warning, the story is very DARK) and the visuals for most of the game is astounding. Some of the cut scenes were jerky. There were some issues with lip syncing. There were some parts of the gameplay that were a little frustrating, namely the controls and trying to get around some of the jump puzzles, but otherwise it was tolerable. I really enjoyed this game, but the wonkyness of the controls and jumpy cut scenes lost it a few points. I beat it in 74 hours.

    Could of been better.

About as twisted as it gets...

Story: The story is about a girl name Alice Liddell who people see as mentally insane. People think she started a fire and killed her family but she insists she didn't do it. As you progress in the game you discover many more details about the fire. You end up being in wonderland most of the game which is expected but after each chapter you go back to the real world.

Characters: The characters in Alice are quite impressive, many of your Alice in Wonderland favorites are in this game. There were a few characters I liked more than others but they were all enjoyable. (cheshire cat is my favorite)

Gameplay: This game reminded me much of God Of War in terms of game play, Alice is a hack-n-slash kind of game. This game also has many jumping puzzles and a few mini games along the way. My only complaint is that it seemed to get more and more repetitive as I played. I should mention that this game is extremely twisted and had me questioning my own sanity while playing it.

Graphics: Alice Madness Returns has some very whimsical looking graphics, Most places are dark and horrid looking but they managed to make it look alright. Some of the brighter areas of the game seemed to stand out much more graphically to me personally. Overall the graphics are what made the game feel so different.

The Verdict: You may be asking why I gave this a 7. I was unable to give this more than that because though I believe this game was good, I personally don't like puzzle games. I'm not a huge fan of hack-n-slash but I can deal with them. My final rating is a 7 but I do believe that if you like puzzle games you will enjoy this game much more than I did.

    ALICE: MADNESS RETURNS: Dark Wonderland

ALICE: MADNESS RETURNS (2011) is a sequel game to the first "Alice" (2000) game.

The game is far more than just a typical sequel. It offers an vivid and dark, expansive story to the stories of Wonderland previously explored in its predecessor (and some very dark differences to the classic fantasy novel, "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll.)

"10 year old Alice Liddell lost her family in a fire. For 10 years after, she remained catatonic in an asylum, blamed for the fire and deemed insane, while her condition caused Wonderland to turn - dark."

Overall, this game an excellent gothic journey into the twisted side of Wonderland. It has a very compelling story and visual art, creepy atmosphere, this was a great game.
