This is director/writer Antony DeGennero's second filmmaking venture and like his previous project, "Natural Possession," his flare for campy high weirdness is creepily good. If you have a taste for campy weirdness, this little film is great. His use of color and lighting is well done, with red, smokey light predominating. The story is pretty straight forward for a comedy- horror film, with witches and demons as main characters. The film does have a technical problem with the dialog syncing with the actors' "chin flaps." Oh, there is some nudity and gore, but it's not very graphic and minimal. So if you're looking for some goofy and campy entertainment for a rainy and cold night, order a pizza and pop a bowl of popcorn and have fun viewing "Sisterhood of Death."
This is a bloody good romp! I love independent horrors and this was a joy to watch. You could tell everyone involved was having a great time and the passion and love of the genre shows. This also had some impressively trippy visuals which I wasn't expecting. Gets the mates over, crack some beers and your in for a good time.
I saw a lot of positive reviews and so I was suckered into wasting time by watching this amateurish (in a bad way) film that appears to have benefited from being reviewed by friends and family. Since I wasted time watching a very bad film, the least I can do is spend some time letting others know that behind all of the shill 5 star ratings, this is a crap ambush.
The intersection of horror and comedic satire can be a pretty great place to hang out for ninety minutes, and that's exactly where we find ourselves in the surprising and exquisite "Sisterhood of Death."
It seems Grandma has passed down a book of incantations to willing granddaughter Jessica, who then pulls co-conspirators Rachel and Alice into her sorority of the macabre. These pseudo-sisters comprise The Sisterhood Of Death, and it turns out the organization is aptly-named, as soon the young ladies begin enticing men into their otherworldly traps before offering evil spirits their newly-sourced man flesh in exchange for upgrades in supernatural strength. There's an "until..." coming, of course, and when it does, it makes for a great takeoff point in this cunning and engrossing spin on the monster movie vehicle.
It's the substantial humor here which really differentiates Sisterhood Of Death as a unique and refreshing film. It knowingly cloaks itself in the finer elements of art house and b-movie moviemaking, but what it ultimately delivers is a terrific and funny horror movie that in many ways is its very own thing.
