Natasha Lyonne and Rian Johnson's hit streaming series, Poker Face, is set to return this year. And, well? The list of people they've finagled to guest star in Season 2 is actually unhinged. Like, the list of people who are going to be on this show is truly outrageous and unfathomable to someone like me, a person who does not cast television shows. But if I did? And I managed to pull this off? I'd be screaming it from the rooftop, folks. Because this cast list? It's truly the best of the best of the funniest, most talented people currently working in Hollywood.
And it seems that Lyonne and Johnson recognize that, sending along a note with the press release teasing the series' forthcoming slate of episodes. And though we don't know the exact premiere date yet — all it says is "Spring 2025" — we do know the 12, 60-minute-long episodes will feature Many very,...

Prime Video has decided to cancel The Sticky, a heist comedy series that premiered on the streaming platform back in December with six episodes. The reason behind this decision hasn’t officially been stated, but per Deadline, it is likely due to a kind of viewership that wasn’t strong enough to warrant a renewal. This cancelation is surprising, considering The Sticky has an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received good reviews from both critics and audiences.
The series follows the story of Ruth Landry, a maple syrup farmer in Canada, who teams up with a mobster and a security guard to exact revenge on the authorities who threaten to take away her land. The official synopsis reads:
“The Sticky follows Ruth Landry, a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves. She teams up with the hot-tempered Bostonian mobster,...

Prime Video is pulling the plug on The Sticky, a heist comedy series inspired by true events. The news comes less than three months after the six-episode show's streaming premiere on Prime Video in December.
Per Deadline,The Sticky has officially been canceled after one season. The decision is likely due to the show failing to draw the high levels of viewership that the streaming platform had been hoping for. Its reception was fairly strong, as it has a score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. There was no mention in the report of the show getting shopped elsewhere for a potential continuation, making it seem more likely than not that this is the end of the line for The Sticky.

The Sticky has received some not-so-sweet news: Prime Video has cancelled the dark comedy series after just one season, TVLine has confirmed.

Exclusive: Prime Video has opted not to renew The Sticky for a second season. The news comes more than two months after the six-episode first season of the Canadian comedy, starring Margo Martindale, Chris Diamantopoulos and Guillaume Cyr and guest starring Jamie Lee Curts, was released on Dec. 6.
Like another recently canceled Prime Video freshman comedy series, The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, The Sticky could not break through and draw wide enough audience despite solid reviews (80% on Rotten Tomatoes). Comedies take longer than dramas to, um, stick, which could explain why streamers are doing fewer half-hour shows and why those shows have a generally higher cancellation rate after a single season.
The Sticky, produced by Blumhouse Television, Curtis’ Comet Pictures, Jonathan Levine’s Megamix and Sphere Media, was inspired by a real-life heist that made global headlines in 2012, which saw more than $18 million worth of maple syrup stolen from Quebec’s national reserves.

There are nice people in Hollywood, and then there’s Margo Martindale.
Not only was she five minutes early for her interview with Gold Derby, she kept the date even though she had fallen on black ice the day before, fractured her eye socket, and had a face full of nasty-looking bruises, cuts, and stitches. “I didn’t want to cancel,” she says humbly (watch above). “This side of Margo Martindale is perfectly fine,” she says, pivoting her uninjured profile to the camera. “This one — not so much.”
The Emmy-winning star of Justified and The Americans is now winning raves for her star turn on Amazon Prime’s The Sticky, a dark comedy about an unlikely, bumbling trio who team up to pull off a maple syrup heist. “I was trying out some makeup for Season 2,” she jokes.

Jamie Lee Curtis knows a thing or two about sticky situations. Like the one she found herself in when she’d agreed to star in an odd little series about a maple syrup heist gone comically awry, but then had to back out due to scheduling conflicts.
Nonplussed, she solved the problem herself. Convinced she knew who should replace her, she cold-called Margo Martindale — famed for her Emmy-winning turns on Justified and The Americans — and convinced her to step in as syrup farmer-turned-criminal mastermind Ruth Landry on Amazon Prime’s The Sticky. And when the producers called Curtis needing someone to play the hit man, she sold them on the idea of not just a gender swap, but also a pretty severe makeover for the battle-scarred Beau.

Child stars don’t have it easy in the Hollywood system. We’ve all heard horror stories of young actors who become cash cows for dismissive parents or lose themselves to the industry’s indulgent lifestyle. Others simply fade away, leaving their mark at a young age then failing to find work as they mature into adulthood.
Many child actors try to avoid this fate by signing on to shocking projects or accepting bold and often scandalous roles. Known for his work in the High School Musical franchise, Zac Efron attempted this feat by playing notorious serial killer Ted Bundy. Joe Berlinger’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile positions this prolific murderer as a duplicitous but charming boyfriend able to woo his way through a bumbling legal system until the reality of his crimes finally catches up. But does this glamorous casting serve to glorify a sadistic predator? Has...

While speaking with The Direct to promote his new Prime Video series The Sticky, Diamantopoulos remarked that he "would be very good" in the MCU, since he has been a comic book fan for as long as he can remember. A few weeks ago, Prime Video put out all six episodes of The Sticky, a terrific comedic/crime saga starring the great Margo Martindale as Ruth Landry, a Canadian maple syrup farmer who schemes to steal millions of dollars of maple syrup (it’s loosely based on an actual heist that took place in Quebec). Her co-stars in the show include Jamie Lee Curtis (who also produced the show with Jason Blum), as well as the great Chris Diamantopoulos, who’s been in loads of stuff over the years, including The Office, Silicon Valley, the movie version of The Three Stooges (he was Moe), Red One, and much more. He’s also the official voice of Mickey Mouse for Disney, a role which has netted him two Emmy nominations.

Jamie Lee Curtis is the product of not one but two Hollywood legends and has been a marquee star for decades, but her career is just as on fire (if not more so) now than it ever has been. In just the last couple of years, she’s collected her first Oscar and Emmy wins, and things don’t seem to be slowing down. To promote the debut of The Sticky, her new comedy series on Prime Video, Curtis stopped by The View on Friday (December 20) and reflected on her incredible run on the small and silver screens lately, and she revealed exactly why it is that things are going so well for her right now. “I’m 66 right now, and I started when I was 19 years old, and I have been wanting to be a boss. I’m bossy!” she explained. “And I have wanted to have a bigger...

A dark comedy crime thriller, with a solid 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is showing signs of success on streaming. The closing months of a year are generally not thought of as an exceptionally busy time for television, with broadcast networks going on hiatus for the holidays and streamers holding their biggest titles for the new year. 2024 may be another year that points to a shift, with several hit series debuting recently and more on the way.
Squid Game season 2 is premiering on Netflix as of December 26, making a late play to be technically one of the year's buzziest series. This is coming after Black Doves debuted in early December, very intentionally set as a holiday-themed spy saga, to acclaim from audiences and critics. Showtime's The Agency, led by Michael Fassbender, is another thriller that premiered late to a lot of attention and a quick renewal. A more low-key crime thriller may well follow that success.

Universal is looking to Jamie Lee Curtis to pick up where Angela Lansbury left off for the studio’s Murder, She Wrote movie. There’s no deal yet, but Curtis is the studio’s top choice to play Jessica Fletcher in a film based on the 12-season CBS series.
The script is by Dumb Money scribes Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, and Lord Miller and Amy Pascal are producing it. Plans to scope out a Murder, She Wrote film come at a time when whodunit stories are making a killer comeback. Rian Johnson’s Knives Out Mysteries series is a smash hit with audiences. Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis is opening up on why it took so long to make a sequel to 2003’s Freaky Friday. Per People, Curtis took to the Today show, where she was promoting her upcoming movies, The Last Showgirl and The Sticky, to clear up why the movie’s sequel, Freakier Friday, took 22 years to come to fruition.
“We couldn’t have made this movie until now, because Lindsay (Lohan) had to be old enough to have a 15-year-old,” Curtis said. In 2025’s Freakier Friday, Lohan, who is now 38, will reprise her role as Anna Coleman from Freaky Friday, but now, her character is also a mom - to her own daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter.

For so long, Jamie Lee Curtis has been mostly known for her roles as someone you trust and root for. In A Fish Called Wanda, she’s a con artist trying to double-cross some dim-witted men. True Lies has her getting in over her head as she gets the exciting, spy adventure she wanted. And the Freaky Friday body swap made her bring comedy gold. Halloween is almost too easy of an example, but there is a reason the franchise is so closely linked with Curtis. Laurie Strode might be the defining role for her, but more recently, Curtis has been taking on some of the most fascinating roles of her career. Forget what you think you can expect from seeing Curtis on-screen because The Sticky is a new crime series that brings her in to escalate the chaos of a wacky heist.

Now we can add another series to that list, as the animated show Secret Level has managed to be a smash with viewers thus far, catapulting it to the top of the charts.
Premiering on Prime Video on Dec. 10, Secret Level is now the number one show on the streaming service ahead of other recent debuts, including Pop Culture Jeopardy, Cross, The Sticky, and the reboot of Cruel Intentions. It’s no surprise really, especially when you consider who are all involved in the project. Secret Level features the voice talents of heavy hitters like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Laura Bailey, and Keanu Reeves.

With the Ted Bundy primer covered off (listen), it’s time for Jenn and I to dig into our first Ted Bundy adaptation.
Writer/director Matthew Bright is…an acquired taste. The man behind the Freeway films (which Trace Thurman and I have covered on Horror Queers) has a tendency to blur the boundaries of “good taste” with his mix of comedy, violence, sex and exploitation.
This is certainly applicable to Ted Bundy (2002), which Bright co-wrote with Stephen Johnston. The film is part of a glut of fictionalized true crime films of the early aughts.
In the case of Ted Bundy, there’s a *partial* attempt at covering the real story. Aside from Bundy, all of the names have been changed, but several key incidents, including the Lake Sammamish double murder, as well as the attempted mall abduction, are recreated here.
But Bright and Johnston can’t help indulging in...

Amazon Prime Video's black comedy heist series The Sticky tells a hilariously twisted take on a true tale in its first season, but will the show score a season 2 renewal? Based loosely on the real-life Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist of 2011 and 2012, the show follows a disgruntled maple syrup farmer (Margo Martindale) who concocts a scheme to steal millions of dollars of syrup from a massive corporation that threatens to put her small farm out of business. Blending all the best elements of its genres, The Sticky delivers a compelling crime story that is hilarious too.
Dropping in late 2024 among a slew of other thriller series, The Sticky didn't struggle to set itself apart because of its unique tone. Critics were largely impressed with the heist show's first course, and it earned a Rotten Tomatoes score above 80%. Intriguingly, the series opted to end its first season on a major cliffhanger,...

Prime Video is now bringing that colorful part of the nation's history to life with The Sticky, a delicious crime drama.
Created by Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, The Sticky puts its own spin on the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, starring Doctor Odyssey's Margo Martindale as Ruth Landry, Chris Diamantopoulos as Mike Byrne, and Guillaume Cyr as Remy Bouchard. The Sticky on Amazon Prime Video is one of those hilarious crime dramas that discusses how things go awry when a normal person commits a crime without any criminal experience. Since they are decent human beings, they assume their plan would work as per their vision. As a result, there are some characters with good ideals who have been wronged by awful people. There are also awful people who want to prove their prowess. The show is loosely based on ‘the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist.’

Here is a factual statement for dear readers: Twelve years ago, Canada saw its biggest heist, the “Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist.” If the name brought a hint of amusement to you, along with the usual apprehension one gets from seedy crimes like robberies, then Amazon Prime’s “The Sticky” (season 1) would be the perfect choice for you. The “Fargo”-coded dark comedy, featuring a motley crew of characters portrayed by an equally diverse cast, is maddeningly hilarious and delightfully entertaining. With half-an-hour-a-piece six episodes, the season zooms through its cold crime-drama premise with oddly fitting circumstantial humor and zany dialogues. All signs of a great dark comedy.

Chris Diamantopoulos, who stars in the new Prime Video series The Sticky, is well-known for many other roles throughout his career. One of his most beloved parts is arguably from Silicon Valley, where the actor portrayed Russ Hanneman, the billionaire who "put radio on the internet." As it turns out, his rise to absurd wealth is exactly what he would want to see with a Silicon Valley spinoff.
In a conversation with MovieWeb, the actor discussed the HBO series, his character, and how a prequel to the hit show would work. "I love that my character is renowned for putting radio on the internet; that's how he became a billionaire, he put radio on the internet. It would be great to see Russ Hanneman in the early years. Who was he before he became a billionaire? How much of a dork was he that led him to become such a complete supreme royal douchebag?...

The Sticky, the six-episode Prime Video series starring Margo Martindale, is streaming now, loosely based on the true story of the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist. A story that's almost too wild to believe, the heist occurred from 2011 through 2012, where C$18.1 million (Usd 12.7 million) was stolen from a storage facility in Quebec. Chris Diamantopoulos, known for his work in Silicon Valley, Mrs. Davis, The Boys in the Boat, and many, many more projects, recently spoke to MovieWeb and discussed his role in the series and the actor who was initially eyed for his part as Mike Byrne.
As it turns out, Diamantopoulos wasn't initially drawn to the project, and it took a few changes before the actor was fully onboard with where The Sticky was heading. He explained, "When I read [the script], I didn't immediately jump at it, but I had an agent who stayed on this project and kept calling me about it.

Three-time Emmy Award-winning actress Margo Martindale has found herself in a sticky situation. Well, her lead role as Ruth Landry in Prime Video's The Sticky has, at least. The series, by creators Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, is a crime comedy inspired by the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist — something Martindale's French-Canadian co-star, Guillaume Cyr, recalls seeing on the news years ago — and has a distinctly Fargo feel to it.

As each episode of “The Sticky” declares, Prime Video’s twisted comedy series about a maple syrup heist in Canada, is definitely not accurately depicting the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist. But can you blame creators Brian Donovan and Ed Herro for hearing an event title like that and wanting to let their imaginations run wild?
Across six episodes (and it deserved eight!), “The Sticky” presents an excellent case for television taking completely wild liberties with true events. With that episodic disclaimer explicitly absolving the showrunners of misinforming viewers, they’re essentially creating an original story based on a fun idea. So what if that idea happened in real life, but differently? What if it went this way instead?
The final episode, written by Donovan and Herro and directed by Michael Dowse, sees Ruth (Margo Martindale), Mike (Chris Diamantopoulos), and Remy (Guillaume Cyr) finally follow through on their big plans,...

Fargo is a hugely popular show based on the Coen brothers’ movie of the same name, following a cast of rotating characters whose lives are turned upside-down by complex crimes and sweeping conspiracies in the Midwest. The anthology series has centered around many different stories throughout the years. Each season follows a whole new ensemble cast of familiar faces whose characters are thrown into the most darkly hilarious predicaments imaginable, with Fargo season 5's cast being one of the biggest yet. Unfortunately, it looks like it may be a while before Fargo season 6 is released, which is a shame seeing as how Fargo finally won its first Emmy this year.
In the meantime, there are several other shows that manage to accomplish a very similar style of thrilling storytelling to Fargo with totally different premises to keep audiences entertained. One such series is The Sticky, a new Amazon release that...

When you ask the creators of “The Sticky” what led them to their comedic adventure series about a maple syrup heist gone wrong, they have two words: dumb luck.
“My sister happened to marry a Canadian. If that didn’t happen, we’d all be in a different room somewhere,” co-creator Brian Donovan told TheWrap. Over cheese and crackers one Christmas, Donovan first heard of the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, a very real theft that happened between 2011-12 when roughly $18.7 million Canadian dollars’ worth of syrup was covertly stolen from a storage facility in Quebec.
“I immediately texted Ed [Herro] and we got working within a week, because it’s such a great story,” Donovan said.
But to make their Prime Video series, the duo needed to rewrite history a bit. “The real crime was pretty boring. They just very slowly and methodically stole syrup, and got caught. That’s not great TV,...

It’s nearly impossible to have lived a life untouched by a Chris Diamantopoulos performance. The Toronto-born star has been active in the industry for decades, and across all genres.
