The movie is pointless in such way that it is irritating. I've hardly ever seen such a bad story. Acting is good, to be honest.
This is not the best movie I've watched recently, but it certainly deserves better reviews than those currently provided. This is a very beautiful film, with beautiful landscapes, beautiful main actors and often effectively used eye-catching close-ups. This impression is further enhanced by a very good music. In the film, you can feel nostalgia for the old, patriarchal values that have been lost somehow in modern society. Bad luck of one rural family is to some extent a metaphor for an eternal bad destiny of Serbia from which there is no escape. The film can be viewed as a retouched postcard of Serbia and a touristic advertising. It is at the same time its quality, and it can be a disadvantage also. The film is too static, slow, sometimes acting is too pathetic and the story is set far in the past, needlessly archaic and ancient. That's why someone may find it difficult to communicate with the messages of this movie because of its archaic expressions. Most of the actors are excellent, though there are characters acted like caricatures. The whole movie seems like a reaction and response to contemporary films which are mockery of the classical aesthetic and ethical values, and life, relationships and feelings are often presented in a harsh and brutal manner (like latest Serbian movie Clip is).
