Are Kate Winslet’s fans obsessed with her nude scene from Titanic? (Photo Credit – YouTube)
The Oscar-winning actress, who starred as Rose DeWitt Bukater in the 1997 blockbuster, alluded that her nude scene remained a fan obsession long after the film’s release. Even 17 years later, people still approached her with the infamous sketch, hoping for an autograph. Winslet made it clear that she wanted no part of it.
“I don’t sign that (picture),” she told Yahoo! Movies. “It feels very uncomfortable. Why would you do that? People ask me to sign that (picture) a lot.”
In Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack Dawson famously sketched Rose wearing nothing but the Heart of the Ocean necklace. The black-and-white drawing became one of the film’s most iconic visuals. For Winslet, it became an unexpected burden.

Costume designer Danny Glicker goes way back with director Jason Reitman, so much so that Glicker says he considers the filmmaker part of his “creative family.” Glicker first worked with Reitman on the director’s debut feature, “Thank You For Smoking,” and also served as the costume designer on later features like “Up in the Air,” “Labor Day,” “The Front Runner,” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” So the costume designer, an Oscar nominee for “Milk,” perhaps knows best where the new film “Saturday Night” stands within Reitman’s acclaimed filmography.
“This movie felt really special, and I think one of the reasons it felt special is having worked with Jason so long, I kind of could feel the pieces of our previous projects and the lessons that we’ve learned being applied here,” Glicker tells Gold Derby. “From the second he told me this movie was a go to the second I...

While theres always going to be blowback for any nepo babies that find consistent work in Hollywood, Jason Reitman has received a significant amount of criticism during the lead-up to his upcoming historical comedy thriller Saturday Night. While Reitmans films Juno and Up in the Air both received Best Picture nominations at the Academy Awards, his subsequent work on Men, Women, and Children, Labor Day, Tully, The Front Runner, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been met with more significant criticism. The overriding flaw with Reitmans work tends to be that he offers fairly safe, unchallenging depictions of the human condition that are wrapped up a little bit too neatly. While its perhaps a bit unfair to say that the worst thing he is guilty of is making pleasant (and largely competent) crowdpleasers, Reitman took on a far darker character study with his underrated 2011 film Young Adult.

When a studio world premieres a movie at Telluride to tee off its chances during awards season, they have to make sure they’ve got the goods, and Sony certainly did coming away from its launch of Jason Reitman’s all-star Saturday Night about the 90-minute agita experienced by SNL producer Lorne Michaels before the show’s first broadcast in the fall of 1975.
Reitman is a true auteur in the sense of the word, a filmmaker who has done it his way. Saturday Night for one is shot in 16Mm, cinema verité style with shots careening through network hallways and backstage curtains. While Reitman is esteemed for such Oscar winners as Juno (which also doubled as a $143.3M grossing movie) and Up in the Air which notched six Oscar noms, he’s also had his fair share of niche misfires,...

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.

The Pitch: Kate Winslet Brings the Heat to a Wild, Well-Dressed Revenge Dramedy

“The Dressmaker” exists in an odd lull in Winslet’s career. Post-Oscar win for “The Reader,” she appeared in a slew of Ok period films and the “Divergent” series — which meant no one was really looking for the next great Winslet performance. Too bad, because one of her best is at...

Netflix is back with a new star-studded action movie — this time led by Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry — with “The Union.” Wahlberg stars as Mike, a Jersey construction worker who finds his average life turned upside down when his high school sweetheart Roxanne (Berry) shows up and he gets tangled up in a continent-skipping international intelligence adventure.
But Berry and Wahlberg aren’t the only familiar faces in the Netflix romp. Here’s a handy guide to “The Union” cast and the characters they play.

Monroe's horror performances are riveting and diverse, showcasing her ability to stand out in the genre beyond traditional tropes. In "Villains," Monroe breaks from her usual final girl roles to play a crime-committing character, displaying versatility in horror films. "Longlegs" highlights Monroe's commanding presence, carrying the film with a constant sense of unease and detachment in her detective role.
After her first role in the 2012 drama At Any Price, Maika Monroe has been acting steadily and has become known for her memorable and riveting horror characters. Before her breakout part in It Follows in 2014, she appeared in The Bling Ring in a minor capacity as Beach Girl and Mandy Chambers in the 2013 adaptation of the Joyce Maynard novel Labor Day written and directed by Jason Reitman. While Monroe has explored other genres, from science-fiction like The 5th Wave to the crime film Brothers by Blood, her horror performances stand out the most.

I always enjoy seeing the horror and Western genres get mixed together, so as soon as I saw that the upcoming film Place of Bones is being described as “action-packed horror Western,” I was sold on checking it out. I didn’t even have to watch a trailer to know I want to see how the movie has turned out – but distributor The Avenue has unveiled a trailer for Place of Bones, and you can check it out in the embed above. The film is set to receive a theatrical and digital release on August 23rd.

One of Westwood’s historic movie theaters will soon have new ownership.
Filmmaker Jason Reitman is leading an unnamed group of investors in purchasing the art deco Fox Village Theater, located at 945 Broxton Ave. The news, first reported by The Ankler’s Peter Kiefer, was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Per the initial report, Reitman and crew are “weeks away” from taking over the property in a deal that is currently in escrow.
Last summer, reports surfaced that the landmarked Fox Village was up for grabs for a $12 million sum, listed by Newmark’s Capital Markets group, which promoted the theater as an “iconic property” and “one of the most identifiable, landmark properties in Los Angeles.” The listing also stated that the 24,099-square-foot building, which houses 1,375 seats inside the theater, had not previously been up for sale.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episodes 509 (Angel’s Peak) and 510 (Labor Day) of Netflix’s series Virgin River.
Part 1 of Virgin River‘s fifth season came to a close with eventful last two episodes. In typical Virgin River fashion, there were bombshell revelations — Lizzie is pregnant, baddie Calvin is the father of Charmaine’s twins, and the big one is the cliffhanger that set up the upcoming Christmas-themed two-episode Part 2 — Mel’s biological father is likely a man from Virgin River, identity unknown (for now).
That last shocker does stretch the limits of believability, even for a soapy romantic drama, as Mel originally landed in Virgin River, a place she said she had never heard of, after answering an ad.
In other developments, Jack takes Mel on a hike to Angel’s Peak to have a heart-to-heart after she had pulled away following her miscarriage. They get lost and rained on,...

Labor Day is a 2013 drama film directed by Jason Reitman and stars Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin. Based on Joyce Maynard's 2009 novel of the same name, the story follows 13-year-old Henry Wheeler (Gattlin Griffith), who is already dealing with the struggles of entering adolescence, but has extra pressure to look after his lonely, recently divorced mother, Adele (Winslet).
When her husband left her, Adele becomes depressed, lonely, and a bit of a recluse, but who can blame her? Longing for love, she doesn't expect what is to follow. Almost ten years after its release, we're still simultaneously drawn into and repulsed by this weird romance story. In honor of the generally unrelated holiday the film takes its name from, let's take a look at what the hell is going on with Labor Day.

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is many things – it’s a cracking good horror movie that is set almost entirely on a doomed ship traveling from Transylvania to London; it’s a refreshing expansion of “Dracula” lore; and it also is a nice nod to Universal Pictures’ classic monster-filled past. It’s existence, though, feels like a bit of a miracle, especially if you had followed the project’s development over the past 20 – yes, 20 – years. That might be the blink of an eye to an immortal creature of the night like Dracula, but in moviemaking terms, that’s an eternity.
Let’s take a look at where “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” started, with a spec script that shook up Hollywood, and where it ended up, as a big studio movie from Universal, with commentary from the eventual film’s director André Øvredal.
Just be warned: there are choppy waters ahead.

Since shifting its focus from first-run films to cult classics nearly a decade ago, the Mahoning Drive-In Theater in Lehighton, Pennsylvania — a rural borough about 75 miles northeast of Philadelphia — has thrived as a haven for genre fans. The Rookie Season 5 understandably spent a significant amount of time exploring the early days of Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen's romance. After all, Chenford had been seasons in the making. But while detailing why it's best for Tim and Lucy to take things slow, The Rookie lost sight of Tim's other great dynamic: the friendship he has with Angela Lopez. Angela and Tim's friendship has existed from Season 1, and now that it has established and fortified Chenford as a couple, The Rookie Season 6 would benefit from diving back into Angela and Tim's friendship.
Not only would doing so make room for a deeper understanding of the characters, it would open the ABC series up to stories beyond romantic drama and workplace happenings. Season 5, Episode 22, "Under Siege," was a somber and emotional Rookie finale. Even as Angela and Wesley Evers welcomed their second child, it remained to be seen whether or not Aaron Thorsen survived.

The long shadow of the war and its ravages continue to haunt a group of late middle-aged Sarajevan friends in the low-budget, tonally uneven dramedy “May Labor Day” from Bosnian multi-hyphenate Pjer Žalica. Although the material is both a little thin and a tad familiar, the script ticks off a range of contemporary social problems and issues such as the brain drain to Europe of the educated younger generation, junkie no-hopers who get clean through faith, the orphan kids kept off the street through charitable ventures and the nagging dissatisfaction felt by the ordinary men who fought for their country, but feel that it has lost its way.
Serving as the closing night attraction of this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival, “May Labor Day” is a co-production of all the territories of former Yugoslavia and features an ensemble of the region’s best-known actors, who appear to take great pleasure in performing together.

The Serbian writer-director is shooting his second feature-length fiction film, which combines socio-political realism with elements of a psychological thriller. Serbian writer-director Mladen Djordjević, known for his brave and provocative style and references to the tradition of the Yugoslav Black Wave in his transgressive arthouse hit Life and Death of a Porno Gang and the docudrama Vienna Hallways, started shooting his second feature-length fiction film, Labour Day, on location near Belgrade last weekend. The plot follows a group of ex-workers from a recently closed factory, who, in their fight for personal dignity, reach out to the supernatural. The film relies on a large ensemble of regional actors, including Tamara Krcunović (Humidity), Leon Lučev (The Load), Momo Pićurić (The Black Pin), Ivan Djordjević, Szilvia Kriszan, Mirsad Tuka, Lidija Kordić, Tomislav Trifunović, Olivera Viktorović and Stefan Sterev. Djordjević describes Labour Day as “a film about the potential for rebellion and the limitless.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was supposed to hit theaters next month, but Sony was forced to delay the film almost a year due to Covid-19. Fans were understandably upset, but the extended wait is allowing director Jason Reitman to not only fine-tune the movie, but also think about the future of the franchise.
While on a Zoom call with the original Ghostbusters cast, Reitman revealed that he’s already developing another sequel, saying:
“I can’t tell you anything, but we are working on another installment. We have a little bit more time, and look, as a director, I’ve never had this opportunity to actually take a pause and breathe and look at the movie again. [The extra time has been] extraordinarily valuable. I’ve been spending my days editing Ghostbusters, so that’s where I’ve been.”
Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows a single mom who moves her two kids to a small town to start over.

Although he wouldn’t call himself a die-hard fan, composer Rolfe Kent was familiar with the comedy duo of Laurel and Hardy before signing onto the film “Stan and Ollie.” “I certainly grew up with them,” he reveals. “The theme tune was hardwired into my head.” But what really attracted him to the film, which focuses on the final theater tour of Stan Laurel (Steve Coogan) and Oliver Hardy (John C. When you’re being wrongly accused of murder, it’s nice to have your mom by your side, isn’t it?
We have our first look at Season 3 of Riverdale, thanks to a series of photos The CW just released, and they confirm what we expected: Molly Ringwald will reprise her role as Archie’s mother Mary Andrews this season. (She’ll appear in the season premiere, titled “Labor Day,” airing Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c.) Mary is an established attorney, so it makes sense that she’d return to pitch in on Archie’s legal defense, now that Hiram has framed him for murder.

“I was excited to not have to have the book to follow anymore,” reveals Dylan Minnette about the second season of “13 Reasons Why.” The freshman year of this Netflix series was faithfully adapted from Jay Asher‘s bestseller about high schooler Clay Jensen (Minnette), who struggles to come to terms with the suicide of his classmate Hannah (Katherine Langford) as he listens to a series of audio tapes she left behind. “It was an amazing structure for the first season, but I was excited for the show to find its own legs … without the book as a backbone.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Minnette above.

Forcus Features has released the first Tully trailer. Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody, the story focuses on an overworked mother (Charlize Theron) who is gifted a night nanny, Tully (Mackenzie Davis). Jamie Foxx rang in his birthday with a little help from Katie Holmes.
The two celebrated the actor’s 50th birthday with a night out in Los Angeles on Wednesday, a source tells People. Foxx and Holmes — who have never confirmed their relationship — were seen arriving together at Paramount Pictures for his bash.
“They walked in together,” says the source. “They mostly mingled with other guests, and spent very little alone time. It was obvious that Jamie had a great birthday. Katie looked like she had fun as well. She looked gorgeous.”

Police say a 14-year-old Florida boy missing for nearly three months apparently witnessed a fatal shooting on a Sarasota vacant lot one week before his disappearance, People confirms.

This season's episodes like to start going in one direction and then take a left turn. This is a compliment, being that I felt I had the Supernatural formula down pat. A little surprise goes a long way when you're this deep into a show's mythology.
Asmodeus' character is finally more developed in this episode, where he got a few scenes to sink his teeth into. The fourth and final Knight of Hell is one personified by a suave, charming and gentile Southerner, complete with drawl and all. His plantation owner's suit is out of touch with the times,...
