Short Film Review: Daly City (2024) by Nick Hartanto

Nick Hartanto is an Indonesian-American filmmaker based in New York. His short film, “The Dishwasher,” which he co-directed, was awarded a Special Jury Mention at Tribeca 2019 and was then acquired by HBO Max. His next film, “Atrophy,” a genre bending story about his mother’s fight to recover from a stroke, premiered at Fantasia 2021 and toured the genre festival circuit, winning Best Performance at the Brooklyn Horror and North Bend Film Festival. Also a skilled Cinematographer, he shot the Adult Swim series “Hot Package”. “Daly City,” which was nominated for the Oscar qualifying Best Short Narrative Award at the Hawai’i International and Woodstock Film Festival, is his latest work.

‘Youngblood’ Feature Reboot Is Happening With Aircraft Pictures & Dolphin Entertainment

Exclusive: Oscar- and Emmy-nominated production company Aircraft Pictures and Dolphin Entertainment have teamed for a reboot of 1986 hockey drama Youngblood.

Cameras have just rolled on the movie in Hamilton and Barrie, Canada, with Hubert Davis directing.

Youngblood follows hockey prodigy Dean Youngblood, who joins the Hamilton Mustangs and discovers he must face off against toxic behavior on the ice and within himself to fulfill his potential as professional hockey player. The original MGM movie, a cult classic, starred Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves in the latter’s feature film debut. Lowe and Reeves aren’t on the bench to return.

Sphere Films International has reported key territory deals here on Anthony Shim’s TIFF Platform Prize and Busan audience award winner Riceboy Sleeps.

1091 Pictures has acquired the family drama for the US and rights have gone for Australia and New Zealand (Icon), South Korea (Pancinema), Spain (Yoda Films), Benelux (September Films), Taiwan (Creative Century), Singapore (Lighthouse Film), and Israel (Lev Films).
