Another day, another movie-to-tv project gaining momentum. On this occasion, it’s the Angelina Jolie-fronted actioner Salt that looks set to swap one medium for another, with Sony allegedly keen to expand the dormant IP in “a completely different way.”
That’s according to Screen Daily, reporting that the studio is shopping the pitch to buyers at the European Film Market. Indeed, it’s the first sign of movement from the Salt camp in some time, after the possibility of a sequel – one to be penned by Kurt Winner and, later, Becky Johnston – quickly faded into obscurity. Now, six years since the original’s theatrical release, Sony is hoping to find better fortune on the small screen.

Since 2010's Angelina Jolie-starring spy thriller "Salt" earned nearly $295 million worldwide, Sony predictably saw franchise potential as such. Kurt Winner, who penned the first film, wrote a draft for "Salt 2" which was apparently turned down by Jolie, and at the end of 2012, “The Prince of Tides” and “Seven Years in Tibet” scribe Becky Johnston was tapped to write another version. But it seems Sony has finally realized no one wants a "Salt" sequel, and are exploring an option that makes a bit more sense in terms of brand extension. Jason Statham is back in the market in Untitled Kurt Wimmer Project, a thriller collaboration between Statham and Steven Chasman’s Sj Pictures and China-based Road Pictures.
Wimmer, whose screenplay credits include Salt and the upcoming Salt 2 and Point Break, wrote and will direct the project about an ex-pat in Hong Kong who goes on the run with a high-level female Chinese agent to solve a kidnapping with global implications.
Chasman will produce with Gongming Cai and Julien Favre of Beijing-based Road Pictures.
Principal photography is set to start in autumn 2016 in China and in Europe.
“Jason and I both have been wanting to work with Kurt for a long time,” said Chasman. “He has such an incredible vision for this film that this collaboration is particularly exciting for us.

Fancy marrying Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie? Starring in an assassin-based caper? Well, the Mr And Mrs Smith game show could be for you…
This just in from our you-couldn’t-make-this-up department – a Mr And Mrs Smith game show is currently in development, over in America.
The rights to the 2005 feature – which of course starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – have been picked up by reality TV producers 3 Ball Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It’s unclear exactly how the new game show will adapt Doug Liman and Simon Kinberg’s film, but one can only assume that unhappy couples on the run from the Colombian authorities are the only people permitted to apply.
This is just speculation on our part, but perhaps eligible couples must also meet the requirement of having withheld a massive secret (preferably a prolific assassin career) from each other in order to qualify for the televised show.

Yesterday, it was announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal had exited her post to focus on another production venture inside the studio. Now, many are questioning what will happen with the Spider-Man franchise and the much-talked about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequels, as well as the long-planned Cleopatra movie. While it has often been discussed, especially in light of the Sony hack this past year, it is more expected than ever that Spider-Man will be rebooted under the new Sony leadership.
It's speculated that it could be several months before the 'post-Pascal priorities' come into focus for the hurting studio. And the true outcome and fate of these movies depends on who will eventually take over for Amy Pascal. It is suspected that the former co-chair's top lieutenant Doug Belgrad will land the job. If that happens, there will likely be minimal changes made to Sony Pictures current film line-up.

As Twins sequel Triplets gets delayed, here are other big name sequels struggling to get going - from Top Gun 2 to Die Hard 6...
We started this website back in 2007, and since then, the names of some sequels seem to come up with reasonable regularity, albeit with no sign of the film itself. Back in August 2013, Spike Lee launched plans for his newest movie on Kickstarter, causing a big hullabaloo in the process. People questioned whether an established director like him was taking money away from other independent filmmakers and projects, even though he clarified that more people came to Kickstarter who had never heard of the service. He added that this was the new order, the new way indie filmmakers like himself got the word out.
Lee did end up earning the funding for his film, just over $1.4 million from over 6,000 backers, and now that film has finally arrived. The movie is Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, a reimagining of a cult horror classic from 1973 Ganja & Hess. Indiewire has details that the film will be released in theaters and VOD, presumably with many perks for Kickstarter backers, on February 13, 2015. Angelina Jolie is fearless. At least she strives to be.
Over the course of her career, the Oscar winner has tackled addiction, mental illness, and serial killers (in movies, of course), but now she's taking on a sinister force so powerful that it's been giving kids -- and some adults -- nightmares for decades.
"Maleficent," Disney's live-action re-imagining of "Sleeping Beauty," retells the story from the oh-so-misunderstood villainess's point of view, following the fairy from her mysterious childhood to her better-known darker years. And who better to play one of Disney's most celebrated villains than one of the world's most celebrated stars?
On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, Jolie sat down with Moviefone to chat about Disney's dark fairy, the challenges of bringing her to life, breaking character for some snuggle time with a scene-stealing costar, and whether or not she's raising a family of actors.

Angelina Jolie may yet reprise the title role in Salt 2, as it's revealed the screenplay is finally done...
It's been over three years since the Angelina Jolie-headlined Salt became a box office hit, and pretty much since then, there's been chat of a sequel. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has certainly kept the project active, and whilst there's been talk of Angelina Jolie not been happy with an early script for the project, it seems as though progress has been made.
Speaking at the UK premiere of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit earlier this week, di Bonaventura confirmed to Bang Showbiz that the screenplay was now done. "I just read the Salt 2 script last week and we'll be going into the studio soon", he said. "One of the mysteries of our business is what gets made, why it gets made and when it gets made.

Well, your burning inquiry has been answered by The Hollywood Reporter, as the mag just released the salaries of 23 of your favorite A-list stars. Unsurprisingly, all of the celebs listed are sitting pretty. According to THR, Angelina Jolie, who won her first Academy Award 14 years ago for her role in Girl, Interrupted and whose star power only seems to rise, will make an estimated $20 million if she stars in Salt 2, cementing her status as one of the top-earners in Tinsel Town. At the New York City premiere of "World War Z," Brad Pitt revealed that his son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, will make his feature film debut alongside his dad in the new zombie horror film opening this weekend. In his cameo role, Maddox plays a very short-lived Zombie!
"He gets shot in the head," Pitt explained to reporters at E! News. "He gets shot multiple times... I don't know what that says about me as a parent."
With parents as well-versed in high intensity action movies as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, it comes as no surprise that their eldest son is ready to take his first step into the Hollywood limelight. In fact, this story sounds very similar to that of power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's son, and current "After Earth" star, Jaden Smith. It turns out the two child stars have more in common than you'd think!

Following last week's news that Angelina Jolie underwent a preventative double mastectomy to drastically lower her likelihood of developing breast cancer, Brit tabloid The Daily Mail has reported that Jolie will play her mother actress and charity founder Marcheline Bertrand, in a biopic based on her life. Bertrand died in 2007 at age 56 to cancer, and Jolie sites the traumatic loss of her mother as a reason behind her recent medical procedure. No further details on the project at the moment, but if true, The Mail reports that it could go into production in 2014. In the upcoming pipeline, Jolie has Disney's "Maleficent" in 2014, in which she plays the title role of the nefarious evil witch originated in 1959's animated "Sleeping Beauty." In costume and makeup, Jolie is a ringer for the part. "Salt 2" has been announced, in which Jolie also plays the eponymous lead, and a "Kung Fu Panda 3" is in the works,...

Becky Johnston is in talks to write the screenplay for Columbia Pictures' Salt 2. The sequel script from Kurt Wimmer didn't appeal to star Angelina Jolie enough to have her commit, and after months, Johnston's in negotiations to add her work to the mix. In the first film, Jolie starred as CIA officer Evelyn Salt (Jolie) who swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash produce the film which at this time has no director on board. Phillip Noyce directed Salt.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia/Sony is still trying to make the Salt sequel a reality by hiring Becky Johnston. It’s an interesting choice and a pleasantly surprising one considering Johnston’s career legacy in adult dramas — particularly Seven Years in Tibet and The Prince of Tides. There’s no doubt that she’s a smart screenwriter, and it was a smart move for Columbia. Admittedly part of that is from how indirect it is. They’ve hired an Oscar nominee with a great skill for character building to take on an action follow-up. That’s unexpected to say the least. Of course, the goal here is to please star Angelina Jolie who wasn’t happy with the earlier version of the story turned in by Kurt Wimmer. If Johnston has the right take on the spy thriller, there’s a great chance that we’ll see Salt 2 put into production in the relatively...

It’s okay everybody, Columbia has listened to your wishes and are hard at work developing a worthy sequel to 2010’s Angelina Jolie-starring “Salt.” What’s that? You’re not interested in seeing the further adventures of Evelyn Salt? Well, since the original made nearly $300 million worldwide, you’re going to see a sequel anyway. THR is reporting that the studio has a new writer who is being tapped to take over the scripting duties from Kurt Wimmer, who was hired last year. “The Prince of Tides” and “Seven Years in Tibet” scribe Becky Johnston is in negotiations to write a new script for “Salt 2” after Jolie refused to sign off on Wimmer’s earlier draft. It makes us wonder how bad his draft was for Jolie to pass on it, especially since the original film wasn’t praised for its stellar screenplay. It’s no surprise that...

Although Angelina Jolie’s 2010 spy thriller Salt did good business at the box office, progress on Salt 2 has been slow going. Last summer, Kurt Wimmer (who wrote the original film) was hired to write the screenplay, but Jolie was reportedly unhappy with his draft.
Since then, we haven’t had many updates on the project, which would see Jolie reprise her role as the butt-kicking spy Evelyn Salt. However, it looks like Columbia may again be moving forward on the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has hired Becky Johnston to write a new draft of the screenplay. Johnston’s previous credits include The Prince of Tides and Seven Years in Tibet. Johnston has also recently worked on the comedy-drama Arthur Newman, starring Emily Blunt and Colin Firth.

When Phillip Noyce.s Salt came to theaters in 2010 it didn.t exactly set the world on fire critically or domestically, but it was definitely a big hit overseas. While the spy flick cost $110 million to make and only managed to pull in $118 million here in the United States, the movie was a big hit abroad, making $175 million and pushing the international total to nearly $300 million. Naturally there has been plenty of talk about a sequel since, but it.s hit a few roadblocks on the way. Noyce announced that he wouldn.t be back for the follow-up quickly, just five months after the original.s release and most recently there was some drama when it was reported that star Angelina Jolie had rejected a script from Kurt Wimmer, who also wrote the first film. I've never watched the original Total Recall. There's no particular reason why, it's just one of those films that I haven't had chance to check out. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed Len Wiseman's remake so much, although even if you are one of the many fans of the Paul Verhoeven helmed 1990 classic, there's no reason why you can't still have some fun with this version. Despite the impressive team of Kurt Wimmer (Salt 2) and Mark Bomback (The Wolverine) being credited for the screenplay, there are unfortunately some instances of less than stellar dialogue. It's also far from the most intricate and clever examples of writing, and despite the fact that there are more than a few predictable and unconvincing moments scattered throughout, the story is still a solid one. A little more humour would have been nice, but there are actually enough fantastic sequences which more than make...

According to reports, that's the first time the Un agency has named a special envoy, a post usually reserved to politicians and diplomats. In her new position, Jolie may at times represent the U.N.'s High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres. Despised by right-wingers for her liberal views, Jolie has reportedly made sizable donations to the Unhcr, and has visited refugee camps in countries such as Iraq, Haiti and Pakistan. Now, isn't it time for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize Jolie's work with a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award? Not that she'd necessarily want it, but she certainly deserves it, and it'd just as certainly provide more publicity for her cause. I mean, precious few give a damn about refugees,...

Now, before you start Omg'ing: No wedding date has been set. Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Angelina Jolie has turned down the current script for Salt 2, prompting the studio to revisit the drawing board in hopes the A-list actress will reconsider. Moviehole reports Jolie, who received rave reviews for her role in Salt, wasn't thrilled with Kurt Wimmer's script for the sequel and refused to commit herself to the film. Upon Jolie's decision, Columbia Pictures asked the screenwriter to revise the script to fit Jolie's vision for the movie. This isn't the first time the Oscar-winning actress has rejected a sequel. She passed on the second installment for the assassin drama Wanted.

Been waiting for a sequel to the Angelina Jolie actioner “Salt”? I don’t blame you. That was a surprisingly good film, and Jolie really played the crap out of it. The film also did excellent business for Sony/Columbia, raking in just shy of $300 million worldwide from a $110 million dollar budget. (It’s also made about $30 million from DVD sales.) The first movie was written by Kurt Wimmer (“Equilibrium”), who has since turned in his script for the sequel. According to reports, Jolie has read that script, and does not think it’s good enough for her to put the wig back on for a sequel. So it looks like it’s back to the drawing board for Wimmer, and we’ll just have to wait a little longer for “Salt 2″. In the first “Salt”, Jolie played a CIA agent accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. Much...

A few odds and ends for some upcoming sequels ... Bill & Ted 3: Yup, this is now officially an upcoming sequel. Well maybe not officially ... yet, since the film still needs to be greenlit, but according to both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter -- who once played the bodacious time-traveling duo -- a script is done and they think it's, like, totally rad. "Yeah, we have a script. We're trying to put it together. It's a good script too," Reeves told The Independent. Meanwhile, Winter Tweeted, "Script done? Check. We love it? Check. Green light? Working on it!" [Coming Soon] Salt 2: In case you're trying to keep tabs on a follow-up to the Angelina Jolie action film Salt, the A-list actress has apparently turned down the latest draft of the...

It’s been a while since we’ve had anything of substance to report on two impending action movie franchise titles: Salt 2, a sequel to the 2010 secret agent thriller starring Angelina Jolie, and Paramount’s reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise (which was originally titled Moscow).
“Caffeinated Clint” over at Moviehole has the latest word on both these projects – and that word is that both have hit a roadblock on their trips down the production pipeline. While there’s a different explanation for why each film has hit a snag, the pair are going to have to undergo some significant script rewriting (in order to move forward from here).
With regards to the currently-directorless Salt 2: Jolie has reportedly decided to not yet sign up for the project, citing issues with the current script ...

Angelina Jolie is hardly prolific when it comes to churning out movies of late, and even less prolific when it comes to churning out good ones. When she does appear in movies she does so as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and as a result she's likely one of the most in-demand actresses around which suggests she must be very selective. But that just makes it all the more confusing when she picks some of the projects she does. Aside from voicing a tiger in the two "Kung Fu Panda" movies, the past five years has seen Jolie make six movies. Two were quite good ("A Mighty Heart," "Changeling"), two were not ("Beowulf," "The Tourist") and two were disappointing action movies ("Wanted," "Salt").
The latter, "Salt," made nearly $300 million worldwide and so Columbia Pictures re-hired Kurt Wimmer (who also penned the first film) to begin work on a script for a sequel.

Personally, I found Salt to be a hugely enjoyable action thriller. It had its flaws but compared with some of the films of its kind released in recent years, it holds up well. Given the way the first film ended and how successful it was at the worldwide box office, it’s hardly surprising that Columbia was keen on a sequel.
Kurt Wimmer, writer of the first movie, has been hard at work on a script for some time now, but sadly, we now hear that it hasn’t met the standards of the film’s star, Angelina Jolie. She's reported to have passed on the script. With this being the case, Columbia has asked Wimmer to have another go,...

In the original film, Jolie played a CIA operative on the run after she is accused of being a Russian double agent. Rumor has it, Angie wants to cast Justin in ‘Salt 2!’ Can you believe it?
Now this is a familiar-looking scene: According to a source, Angelina Jolie knows exactly which leading man she wants by her side when she films her next big action-thriller — and it’s none other than Jennifer Aniston‘s current squeeze, Justin Theroux! She reportedly suggested to producers that they cast him in Salt 2.
For those of you keeping score at home, this would be the second time Angie snared Jen’s man for a movie role — who could forget when she stole Brad Pitt away while filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith? – but even we find this one hard to swallow. Even if Angie did, in fact, suggest bringing Justin on board, there’s no way Jen would ever let that happen… again.
(Fool Jen once, shame on Angie; fool Jen twice, shame on Jen!

Can Hollywood stop waiting for Brad Pitt? The actor has had two projects announced so far this week. Luckily he'll only be acting in one of them. Scheduling would be tricky either way, since in-demand Pitt and partner Angelina Jolie don't work simultaneously. Jolie has Salt 2, Maleficent and Cleopatra in the pipelines, while Pitt is currently filming Marc Forster's World War Z. Pitt is now in talks to star in The Gray Man, based on Adam Cozad's script (on 2010 Black List), which is an adaptation of Mark Greaney's novel. James Gray (the man behind Joaquin Phoenix starrers We Own the Night and Two Lovers) will direct for New Regency (which was behind Pitt's Fight Club and Mr. and Mrs. Smith). Pitt would play ...

I’m curious how many people younger than 40 have actually seen the Beatty version. It doesn’t seem to get much play on cable. It seems everyone knows of it, but hasn’t given the classic it’s time. I trust Burger. I’ve seen Limitless twice now and think it’s his best work. The big question is who will star? The couple’s actual age was 22. Everyone Ok...

News: Chris Hemsworth is set to star in Sony Pictures newly acquired action thriller, Shadow Runner.
Source: Deadline
Thoughts by Tsr: Chris Hemsworth is a star. After an excellent turn as Captain James T. Kirk’s father at the beginning of 2009’s Star Trek, and a great performance as the titular god in Thor, there’s no denying Hemsworth is destined for even bigger things. With The Avengers and Snow White and the Huntsman currently set to come out next year, the sky’s the limit.
We now know what he’ll be doing once he’s done swinging Mjolnir and helping out Snow White. Hemsworth is set to star in Shadow Runner, a newly acquired pitch said to be inspired by the assassination of a Hamas leader. According to Deadline, the assassination was carried out in a five-star hotel by a 17-person team that was smuggled into Dubai.

Thoughts by Tsr: Wet Hot American Summer is a gem, I’d love to see a sequel. The hard part would be getting the cast back together. When the first film came out in 2001, no one in the cast was a huge star. Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper and Amy Poehler are pretty big names now, with the busy schedules to match. His concept for the film sounds great though. Forty year olds playing 16 year olds could be awesome. Especially these 40 year olds.

If Bourne, with its built in audience doesn’t rake it in, we’ll know Renner’s tough guy days are behind him.
