WestEnd Films has launched international sales on “Lamya’s Poem,” an animated feature by Alexander Kronemer, which will be part of Annecy’s Works in Progress panel at the digital version of the world’s largest animation festival and market that begins Monday.
WestEnd builds on an established reputation representing prestigious independent arthouse animated features, such as Oscar-nominated films “The Breadwinner,” executive produced by Angelina Jolie, and “Song of the Sea.”

In The Citizen, an immigrant picks a bad time to fall in love.
A very timely, relevant film exploring Europe’s, and the world’s, current crisis with immigration. The drama takes place at ground level, through the eyes and lives of the characters as they struggle to figure out what the system requires of them in order to stay where they are, and here it’s modern Hungary, in order to have peaceful lives.
Cake-Baly Marcelo as Wilson Ugabe
Love happens at a bad time for Wilson Ugabe (Cake-Baly Marcelo), the protagonist of this Hungarian film. A middle-aged immigrant from Nigeria, Wilson has a lot on his plate from the opening scene, in which he’s depicted flunking Hungary’s compulsory exam that will determine his eligibility for citizenship.
“Don’t come back for another year,” one of the exam’s proctors says to Wilson.

Syria’s first ever submission in the Motion Picture Academy’s Foreign Language category, “Little Gandhi”, is one of a handful of documentaries submitted for Best Foreign Language Film nomination this year.
It comes to the Academy in a most unusual way. It was selected not by the country which is how submissions are always made, but by a committee of artists in exile. If any of these people had actually been in Syria they would likely have been imprisoned, tortured and executed, for this was the fate of Ghiyath Matar, the Syrian activist who became known for giving flowers and roses to army soldiers in his home town of Daraya, leader of the once peaceful Syrian revolution and the Little Gandhi of the title. It premiered at the ongoing Asian World Film Festival.
