Carla Gugino in Hide (2011)

Hide

The similarities are striking

The film Hide concerns the search for a serial killer and is prompted by some kids fooling around on the sight of an abandoned mental hospital. One kid falls through the ground and discovers someone's torture chamber and some preserved remains in plastic bags.

This looks like the work of someone who tried to abduct Bridget Regan years ago and one of the bodies was of someone who had been abducted after Regan's perpetrator died in prison. Is it a copycat or did they have the wrong guy.

Hide's plot is complex and it is gloomy with an overriding sense of fear and tragedy. I will say that Regan had a stalker who was truly demented and obsessed.

I'm disagreeing with the reviewer who said that the added romantic triangle of lead detective Carla Gugino and two of her assistants Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Kevin Alejandro was superfluous. I think it was needed to lighten things a bit in a very heavy and tragic story.

Still the film could have moved a tad faster, but it's a tale well told.

Decent for a TV movie

I had no idea this was a TV movie when I watched it, it was just something I found on Prime and decided to watch because of Carla Gugino and Jay Karnes. Kevin Alejandro being there was a little bonus, though.

The movie itself was alright, but it could have been better with a bigger budget and better production values.

It's a bit of a stock standard Midday Movie detective story about kidnapped, and tortured/murdered, girls with two survivors who look almost identical, not a great deal of darkness to it really - aside from the perp of course - and some pretty solid performances from the main cast.

You could do worse, even if you just watch it for the cast.

Why not go by the book?

This book would have made an amazing movie. Ruining the main character, poor taste. I wont go on because the actors and actresses in this is great but this book was not even comparable. Lisa Gardner deserved wayyy better.

bodies in a pit - ugh

The discovery of mummified womens' bodies in an underground pit sparks an investigation into a grisly affair in "Hide," a 2011 TV movie. Carla Gugino stars as the detective married to her career. The murders are reminiscent of an earlier murder where the victim survived. In the current set of murders, one victim is wearing a necklace with her name on it; however, it turns out that the necklace was a gift from her best friend -- who looks very much like the victim from the previous murder.

Fairly interesting if slightly confusing TV movie where there are plenty of suspects, but if you've seen as many of this type of thing as I have, you'll figure at least part of it out in the first fifteen minutes.

There is something very detached about not only the story but the performances. Carla Gugino is the big name in this, followed by Mark-Paul Gosselaar of Franklin & Bash. Unfortunately, the dialogue isn't much. Gugino is worthy of better, but she looks great.

Okay. So far, these TNT mystery movies aren't ringing my chimes.

an okay search for killers

When new events seem connected to old murders, the police force tries to make the connections. Sergeant warren has reviewed what happened years ago at the old state hospital, but is having trouble finding out how that connects to what is happening today. It's okay. We don't actually see a lot of police work... kicking in doors, showing up just in time, when stuff happens. The supervisor appears to be shagging both of her subordinates. Sounds like a conflict of interest, or ethics, or something. When we do find out what's going on, it's purely by chance. Not through work on the part of the detectives.a lot of talk about the relationships between all the officers. Directed by john gray. Has won several film fest awards.

But Why Tho?

Hide was actually the very first Lisa Gardner book I ever read and while I was reading it I could picture it being a movie, but what they've done here is an abomination. Watchable, sure, but this particular book had the potential to make a damn good theatrical movie.

There was a hole

There was a hole In the middle of the ground The prettiest hole That you ever did see And the green grass grows all around all around And the green grass grows all around And in this hole...

For people that read the books that the characters are based on, there is no excuse.

Now for the rest of us, that have no book reference, we get a pretty standard detective formula movie. It does have a few layers. All kinds of people could have done all kinds of despicable deeds. Even the good guys are not kosher in thoughts and deeds. Of course, there is the possibility that it is the last person you would suspect.

This presentation was made for TV and maybe a pilot for a series that never got off the ground.

If you like detective shows this is worth watching.

Hide....from this movie!

Very poor attempt at a serial killer film. Bodies found in a graveyard, detectives called to investigate. Then 2 hours of grossly overloaded plot. The players in this movie are sub-standard 'B' picture and it really does show. Meant to be taken from a book but the story is so tedious and convoluted, I used the fast forward. As often happens when the film makers have a boring story they seem to think that having sub text romance in the film will somehow improve it: big mistake especially in this movie.

I am being very generous and give:

Entertaining

I read the book before seeing the movie, and I am aware of the fact that the translation of a book into a movie is often a disappointment. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the adaptation of this book. I think it tries to keep the spirit of the book, even when there are some changes, and I really think they did their best to stick to the story and keep things into character. I actually did not know much about most actors, but they were cast well.

My impression was that this was a way to start a series based on D.D. Warren stories. I would like that. She appeared to be a witty, strong character. I think that Bobby was not portrayed as strong as he could be, because a lot of his background story was left out in this movie. I have to admit that some parts of the movie were a bit cheesy, or should I say old-fashioned, or (maybe worse) stereotype, but I could look past that because of the overall story.

My main criticism would be the use of the 'victim' Annabelle. In the book, she has a lot of first-person story, that is not really included in the movie now. Moreover, she appears to be a stronger personality in the book than in the movie. I personally believe that that is a missed opportunity, since they cast someone that could really play a believable strong but vulnerable personality to play Annabelle. Overall, I would recommend to watch this movie.

Booo. A Cheesy TV Movie

I watched this on amazon prime thinking it was some movie that had been theatrically released. After watching it and thinking wow that was like a cheesy TV movie I looked it up here on IMDB and oh really, it was a TV movie? Lame. I'm not sure why but it did seem like something done by Lifetime or Hallmark. It's a short, over done semi twist plot, cheesy ending movie.

Boring

Am I really to care about the round about with all these details, fact findings that go on and on and on with little dynamic or characters I could care less about. More like a soap opera than a feature film Zzzz

Don't bother

If you're a fan of the books, this will supremely disappoint you. Poor adaptation and none of the characters look how they're supposed to look. What? Too hard to cast a blonde as D.D.? And Catherine and Annabelle are now redheads? Nope. But if you've never read the books...well...it still sucks.

pretty much a dud

Like most detectives they have difficulty finding crap on their upper lip .... as with most detective stories, its convoluted to confuse you ... i knew from the first glimpse of jay karnes ie chaarlie marvin that he would be the crux to solving the puzzle and walla ... but a twist was added in ... it was still a crappy film ... wipe your upper lip detective warren

FINALLY, a Movie That Does the Book JUSTICE!

I watched "Instinct to Kill", which is based on Lisa Gardner's book "The Perfect Husband", two days ago and was absolutely APPALLED by how STUPID it was. Had NOTHING to do with Lisa's masterpiece, except in the loosest way possible, such as character names. But I digress. I ended up looking up other movies based on the Thriller Queen's books, and I found "Hide", which just happens to be one of my favorite of Lisa's works. I had to get a trial of Starz in order to watch it, which is irritating, but I'm FURIOUS that I can't find it to buy ANYWHERE! SUCH great acting and sticking-to-the-story artistry displayed. (I don't know if anyone else here is a "Burn Notice" fan, too, but in addition to having Zack Morris playing Alex Wilson, Bobby Dodge and Christopher Eola were both played by "Burn Notice" alum (Jay Karnes and Kevin Alejandro). My only critique (and it's just my own pickiness) is that while Carla Gugino is a marvelous actress, DD Warren has shoulder-length blonde curly hair, but Carla does not. Hollywood REALLY needs to invest in making every single one of Lisa Gardner's novels into movies (and don't cheap out on them like they did with "Instinct to Kill" 🙄).
