Spider-man: Brand New Day Explained: Where The Spider-man 4 Title Comes From And What It Means For The MCU
Image
At CinemaCon last night, Sony Pictures, filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, and actor Tom Holland officially announced that Spider-Man 4 will be titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

For longtime comic book fans, that subtitle has a lot of meaning and takes us back to 2008 for a two-year period of storytelling that completely changed Peter Parker's world. In the wake of the hugely controversial "One More Day," it was a brand new day for Spider-Man, and his life hasn't been the same since.

In this feature, we're bringing you up to speed with everything you need to know about the "Brand New Day" comics and how we think that could affect what we see in theaters next summer. While a shared title doesn't mean a direct adaptation - look at Captain America: Civil War - there are many elements from this time we believe are going to be part of the MCU.

Stephen King's 'Thinner' Is a Streaming Success Almost 30 Years After Release
Image
One of the most panned horror movies based on the works of seminal author Stephen King has found surprise success on free streaming. Despite the quality of the source material, the films based on the works of horror author Stephen King are not always great. The big screen has hosted plenty of masterpieces like The Shining, Stand by Me, and The Shawshank Redemption, but his name is not exactly equivalent to guaranteed success. Cell, The Dark Tower and Riding the Bullet are a few which failed to earn acclaim. And, in the middle ground, where the most divisive movies remain, you will find Thinner.

Thinner, the body horror film based on the book of the same name by Stephen King, has suddenly become a hit on the streaming platform Tubi, a.k.a. one of the few streamers that doesn't require you to pay a single penny or even register.

18 Years Later, I'm Convinced This Power Rangers Season Doesn't Deserve Its Hate
Image
Quick Links I Watched Every Episode of Power Rangers Operation Overdrive Weekly and Mostly Enjoyed It I'm Not Blind to the Fact That Operation Overdrive is a Deeply Flawed Season Operation Overdrive Has Enough Strengths to Make it Worth Watching For Power Rangers Fans

Anyone who spends a short time in the Power Rangers fandom can quickly identify which seasons are the least liked. While installments like Wild Force, Turbo and Samurai were once heavily maligned, these days it's Megaforce and Ninja Steel that soak up most of the audience's ire. But while I've watched as the former three seasons have been re-evaluated for the better, one season I haven't seen the needle move on at all is Power Rangers Operation Overdrive.

Power Rangers Operation Overdrive is often considered one of the worst seasons in the franchise, but I find it to be underrated. It's deeply flawed and far from...

Stephen King's Newest Movie Adaptation Breaks a Surprising Trend for the Author
Image
Stephen King is a one-man cottage industry, spawning an expansive and viable franchise universe solely from his imagination. It's a true rarity in today's pop culture environment, and new TV and movie adaptations of his work are planned for the foreseeable future. The sheer quantity of his canon is the sort that only a prolific writer can produce over the course of decades. It can even support a huge number of projects, and with remakes now the norm in Hollywood, the cycle can presumably continue indefinitely. That includes a number of his short stories, which have been adapted as often as his longer works, and provide unique challenges for a movie or TV version.

The newest example of that is The Monkey, based on a very brief work that basically expounded on how creepy mechanical toys are. The short story is quite scary, but the prospects of filling a feature-length running time are grim,...

With thirty years to its name, the franchise has seen many Ranger teams, hundreds of characters, and plenty of zords. Power Rangers has always been aware of its legacy, making several callbacks and references to past seasons, including the traditional team-up episodes.

Beginning with the tenth entry, Power Rangers Wild Force, the Power Rangers franchise honored its legacy every five years with special anniversary episodes. These episodes usually include returning Rangers from past seasons, a heavy emphasis on the legacy of power, and several Easter eggs to Rangers past. Of these five anniversary specials, there were certainly highs and lows, with fans responding more positively to some over others.

10 Forgotten WWE Finishers
Image
Wrestlers, and WWE Superstars in particular, put a lot of thought and effort into their finishers. Professional wrestlers are often defined by the move they end their matches with, as the way they end their match tends to be the final impression a wrestler leaves on the audience as they leave an arena.

A good finisher can catapult a Superstar to main event status overnight, but if their finisher is underwhelming, they probably won't rise any further up from the undercard anytime soon. Fear not, though, as it's never too late for a wrestler to decide to change their finisher. It's why so many legends and Hall of Famers' trademark finishers are far different from the finishers they started their careers with, as seen throughout this list. And in some cases, wrestlers change their finishers late into their careers.

Every Disney Season of Power Rangers, Ranked
Image
Based on the Japanese tokusatsu series Super Sentai, the Power Rangers franchise has run for thirty years, premiering in 1993, with its final season dropping on Netflix in 2023. Despite its long run, the series came close to cancelation several times, but was always saved by another production company buying out the rights. Power Rangers Wild Force was meant to be the 10th and final series, before the Walt Disney company bought out the franchise and moved production to New Zealand.

The Walt Disney Company produced seven Power Rangers seasons during its ownership before the rights were bought by Saban Brands in 2010. While Disney grew to care very little about Power Rangers after the first few years, the seasons they produced are considered some of the best entries in the franchise, despite their low budget and lack of care from the studio heads. These seven seasons have gained much more love from fans as time passed,...

Uglies Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play In The Movie
Image
Warning! Spoilers for Netflix's Uglies ahead!

Netflix's Uglies features some excellent music that fits perfectly with the futuristic theme. The film, based on the popular YA sci-fi novel by Scott Westerfeld, is set in a dystopian, high-tech future, and this is reflected in its soundtrack. Full of techno and dubstep-inspired elements, the accompanying music in Uglies sets the tone for Tally Youngblood's world. Then, more contemporary pieces from artists like Milck, Yonaka, and more help to drive some of the movie's big moments home.

Tally Youngblood, a 15-year-old eagerly awaiting her next birthday, lives in a high-tech city where everyone is required to get cosmetic surgery when they turn 16. This "Pretty" operation makes citizens healthy and beautiful, with perfect symmetry, large glowing eyes, and flawless skin and features. Being Pretty makes everyone so happy that there is no longer any need for conflict, allowing for a utopian civilization. However,...

Stephen King's Most Infamous Adaptation Gets Glowing Reflection From Giancarlo Esposito
Image
Giancarlo Esposito praised Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive despite its critical failure. Esposito believes King could have had a successful directing career if he continued making horror movies. A potential Maximum Overdrive remake could redeem the concept with a more serious tone and global impact.

Giancarlo Esposito has offered a glowing review for horror author Stephen King's most infamous adaptation, Maximum Overdrive, while positively reflecting on his time working on the film. Maximum Overdrive was King's only director credit, a horror movie loosely based on his 1978 short story "Trucks" about a comet making all machines on Earth sentient. The film has been ridiculed as one of King's worst adaptations ever, with the horror author never directing another movie after its critical failure.

However, speaking with CinemaBlend, Esposito had nothing but good things to say about Maximum Overdrive, reflecting on both the movie itself and his role in the film. The...

New Fast & Furious Rival Already Has 1 Major Advantage Over $7.4 Billion Franchise
Image
Matchbox movie gains edge over Fast & Furious with director Sam Hargrave's action pedigree. Fast & Furious 11 faces delay, but Vin Diesel promises an intense finale for the $7 billion franchise. Hargrave's Extraction films showcase potential for Matchbox movie to exceed expectations in action genre.

A new Fast & Furious rival already has one major advantage over the $7.4 billion franchise. Since the original The Fast and the Furious film was released in 2001, it has gradually become one of the most profitable movie franchises of all time. Leading man Vin Diesel is still committed to making the upcoming Fast 11 one of the best installments of the lucrative franchise despite the poor box office performance of Fast X (2023).

Fast 11 has been unparalleled in terms of action car franchises, with films such as 2014's Need for Speed and 2017's Overdrive unable to capitalize on establishing a modern series that could rival Fast & Furious.

10 Movies That Tried & Failed To Copy Fast & Furious
Image
Many filmmakers have attempted to copy the success of the Fast & Furious franchise, but few have succeeded in capturing its essence. Movies like Need for Speed, Biker Boyz, and Torque imitate the high-speed stunts and criminal underworld of Fast & Furious, but fall short in creating cohesive narratives and emotional resonance. Films such as Getaway, Overdrive, and Drive Hard attempt to combine elements of Fast & Furious with other genres, but ultimately fail to deliver a compelling and coherent movie experience.

The Fast & Furious franchise is likely the most successful series of movies about street racing, but there have also been dozens of attempts to copy it. With the first movies in the series released in 2001, the movies about fast cars and a shady criminal underworld have gone on to be incredibly successful. The franchise has managed to earn almost $7.5 billion across 11 movies and even created some spin-offs within the same universe.

Fun Car Films You Should Check Out
Image
Everyone loves fun car films. With Fast X spawning a spin-off and sequel and Gran Tusimo (out on VOD Tuesday) doing decent business at the box office, the genre isn’t going anywhere. We thought now would be a good time to check out some less-known (or underrated) entries into the genre.

Taxi

We’re going to cheat right off the start by counting this whole series and one entry on this list. The films here are action-comedy classics for fans of French movies and those who love a good car stunt. The first established the characters, but the second is possibly the best of the bunch. Only die-hard fans will want to bother from the third to the fourth to the fifth. However, those first two are worth seeking out what the French do with a modified Peugeot 406, the vacation town of Nice, and a cast that most will recognize from other movies.

9 Roles That Prove Ana de Armas Should Lead The Tomb Raider Reboot
Image
Ana de Armas has proven her action hero capabilities in films like The Gray Man, Ghosted, and No Time to Die, making her a strong candidate for the role of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot. Despite her desire for more dramatic roles, de Armas's recent casting in action movies like Ballerina and Joint Security Area demonstrates widespread belief in her ability to captivate audiences in physically demanding roles. De Armas's impressive dramatic performances in films like Knives Out and Blonde prove her talent as a leading actor, making her a perfect fit for the iconic role of Lara Croft in Amazon's Tomb Raider.

Ana de Armas has starred in at least nine films that prove she would be great as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot. There has not been a Tomb Raider movie released since an attempted sequel-reboot amalgamation in 2018 that placed Ex Machina alum Alicia Vikander in the leading role.

10 Great Horror Books That Made For Terrible Movies
Image
Horror novels have a long history of being adapted into both brilliant and embarrassingly bad films, with Stephen King's works being no exception. Many successful horror novels, such as The Body Snatchers and The Haunting of Hill House, have been poorly adapted, disappointing fans and deviating from the source material. Films like Dreamcatcher, Pet Sematary, and Children of the Corn have received lackluster adaptations that failed to capture the terror and depth of the original novels.

For decades, great horror books have undergone some terrible film adaptations. From urban legends to true-crime books to bestselling novels, literature has influenced horror cinema since its silent, black-and-white origins. This longstanding relationship has blessed cinephiles with Gothic classics like Frankenstein and Dracula, cerebral thrillers like The Silence of the Lambs and Psycho, and a multitude of Stephen King adaptations like The Shining and Misery. To balance out the brilliance of these cult favorites,...

Image
A fan-made poster featuring Ana de Armas as Lara Croft has sparked discussions about the future of the Tomb Raider franchise and whether de Armas would be a good fit for the role. Ana de Armas has established herself as a versatile actor, excelling in both intense thrillers and restrained dramas. Her performance in No Time To Die showcased her action star potential. While de Armas seems well-equipped to take on the role of Lara Croft, the future of the franchise remains uncertain. The cancelation of Tomb Raider 2 and plans for a reboot have left the possibility of de Armas being cast as Lara Croft undetermined.

Ana de Armas Becomes Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Art Raises Questions About Franchise's Future
Image
Ana de Armas has proven herself as a versatile actor in various genres, including action movies like No Time To Die. With her extensive filmography and action movie experience, de Armas could potentially excel as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider franchise. However, due to the cancellation of the previous Tomb Raider sequel and the upcoming reboot, it remains uncertain if de Armas will be cast as Lara Croft in the near future.

A new gloomy art imagines Cuban actor Ana de Armas as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Based on a long-running video game series of the same name, the action-adventure movies follow a fierce young archaeologist named Lara Croft who must challenge herself as she embarks on a demanding journey to the island where her father, Lord Richard Croft, went missing. Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft in the 2001 movie adaptation and reprised her role in...

See Post Malone Wake Up the Neighborhood in ‘Something Real’ Live Performance
Image
Post Malone experiences something that falls between a religious epiphany and a therapeutic breakthrough while pacing around somebody’s roof in Los Angeles in a new, live-performance video of his Austin song “Something Real.” In the clip, he steps on the shingles of a home as stadium lights, which look a bit like something out of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, flash around him. “Give me something I can feel,” he sings along with a gospel choir before breaking with logic to bleat, “like a cigarette just so I can breathe.

Post Malone Says Having a Baby Slowed Down His Partying — But Not His Existential Dread
Image

In a new interview with Zane Lowe (which airs in full 1 p.m. Et/10 a.m. Pt on Apple Music 1), Posty explained: “Having a baby really put a lot into perspective, and it’s really slowed me down a lot, party-wise, going out and being crazy. But it’s the most beautiful thing and, I don’t know…...

Ana de Armas, Scott Eastwood, and Freddie Thorp in Overdrive (2017)
Post Malone’s new live performance of his song “Overdrive” is a high-energy jam that is sure to get you moving. The performance, which was filmed for Vevo, features Malone and his band performing the song in a stripped-down setting. The result is a raw and powerful performance that showcases Malone’s vocal talent and the band’s tight musicianship.

The performance begins with Malone sitting on a stool, strumming his guitar. As the song progresses, he stands up and starts to move around, his energy matching the intensity of the music. The band provides a driving beat, and Malone’s vocals are clear and powerful. The performance is a perfect example of Malone’s ability to connect with his audience through his music.

“Overdrive” is a song about feeling invincible and unstoppable. The lyrics are about pushing yourself to the limit and overcoming any obstacle that comes your way.

Stephen King's Desperation Is in Need of a Remake
Image
Another day, another Stephen King movie adaptation, and with The Boogeyman recently frightening audiences in theaters, the phrase seems all the more fitting. Although many of King's horror novels have been finding a way to the big screen since 1976's Carrie, it seems like the past decade has been a significant uptick of content, including brand-new adaptions and remakes of past movies. This new King era has been hit or miss, especially in the remakes department. While It, a two-part remake of the original 1990 miniseries, found new life in its second go around, other recent films like Firestarter and Children of the Corn failed to improve their mediocre precursors. Still, with remakes and reboots all the rage, there is one movie that desperately deserves another chance -- Desperation.

Desperation follows a group of people traveling through the Nevada desert who have the misfortune of getting pulled over by Collie Entragian,...

Stephen King’s Disastrous Attempt at Directing
Image
Stephen King has been a certifiable master of horror for decades, inspiring countless creatives from authors to artists to filmmakers and many, many more. His prolific writing is the subject of awe and mockery, but it’s undeniable that some of our favorite films of all time were born out of King’s eccentric mind. It’s only natural that the author would try his hand at directing after seeing his work adapted by so many others, and in 1986 his one and only directorial venture was released: Maximum Overdrive.

Based on King’s short story Trucks from the anthology Night Shift, Maximum Overdrive follows a group of survivors battling sentient machinery (mostly trucks) trying to take over the planet. It’s a wacky premise that could be an interesting commentary on the way the technologies we create ultimately subjugate us. Instead, it’s a chaotic B-movie full of logic gaps,...
