The isekai theme represents one of the more noticeable recent trends in the anime industry, with shows that fall under this category even outnumbering all others during certain seasons. Yet, while titles such as Re:zero -Starting Life in Another World- and KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! became immensely popular, many others end up being overshadowed, never getting the chance to reach the same heights.
Even beyond the commonly well-liked titles lies a vast trove of diverse stories waiting to be discovered. Some may indeed be uninspired, merely trying to join the trend without adding anything of value, but some take the concept and use it as a way to take their viewers on a genuinely entertaining journey that leverages its premise flawlessly.

Farming Life in Another World and I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills are both isekai anime focused on tending the land, growing crops, and all the other pleasantries that come with farming in a parallel world. Though they may seem similar, the two anime could not be more different in terms of plot. Each anime will appeal to a specific type of audience.
Farming Life in Another World debuted in early 2023 and focuses on Hiraku Machio, a man who makes a deal with "God" to run his own farm in his next life. I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills debuted in late 2022 and focuses on Al Wayne, a man who somehow managed to boost his attack skills while doing his regular farming duties.

Cozy fantasy anime, such as Ascendance of a Bookworm and Hakumei and Mikochi, focuses on world-building, character development, and relationships rather than action. Cozy fantasy takes elements from slice-of-life and iyashikei genres, providing a sense of "healing" and escapism with its gentle and heartwarming stories. Key elements of cozy fantasy include idyllic, historical settings, the pursuit of slow activities, and heartwarming storytelling that provides viewers with a sense of support and comfort.
While action-packed anime like Demon Slayer, One Piece, and Jujutsu Kaisen still rule the day, a slower, softer genre has been capturing the hearts of anime fans as of late. The Summer 2023 anime line-up is filled with several promising series, with plenty of returning ones such as the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. There are also numerous new adaptations, especially within the beloved isekai genre. In fact, isekai anime has seen a surge in production so far this year, with some taking on culinary themes, such as Farming Life In Another World and Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill.
Although it might be thought of as uncommon, many manga and anime series have featured a combination of the isekai and gourmet themes, such as Restaurant To Another World and Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World. Now, the upcoming dessert-based anime Sweet Reincarnation is ready to partake in this combo, perhaps being the first culinary isekai to focus on the sweet aspect of food. With the recent trend in serious and gritty adaptations of popular Manga such as the latest season of Bleach and Chainsaw Man, the general focus of the anime community has somewhat shifted away from the lighthearted comedy and fantasy nature the medium was known for.
