Since 2012, with its first theatrical release, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, A24 has been hooking audiences with a distinct style emphasizing unbridled creativity. Many A24 films earn an R-rating, allowing filmmakers to push the boundaries with taboo subjects, steering away from the fear of studio interference if a film isn't seen as particularly palatable for general audiences.
With so many R-rated films, it's hard to narrow down the best of the best, as each A24 film is unique in presentation and structure, even if it's from the same director. From bone-chilling horror movies to gripping dramas, these R-rated A24 flicks exhibit true artistry and an extensive knowledge of the craft of filmmaking that's difficult to achieve.

A24 horror movies have garnered a reputation for being some of the best entries in the genre. The independent entertainment company is largely responsible for the “elevated horror” boom. They attract an array of auteur filmmakers with distinct visions and tend to give them a fairly loose leash when it comes to creative control. The end result can be a mixed bag, but more often than not viewers are treated to a memorable horror experience worthy of the crown worn by King Paimon.

Our recent review of “Opus” may very well leave some of you looking to a list ranking the “best A24 movies” as a sweet bout of hypocrisy; the fandom surrounding the distributor has been well-documented and thoroughly lambasted, so what purpose is served exactly by compiling a list of the best films that just so happen to have been acquired by a specific group of New York millennials tapped into meme culture? In examining the films that have garnered the studio such status, though, it’s not impossible to envision certain patterns in these independent features that might have attracted those millennials to acquire these films in the first place—in essence, while there is no such thing as a style defined in an “A24 film,” there is certainly a particular breed of audacious art films that the studio prefers to platform with all their savvy marketing magic, to the mutual benefit of all involved.

In case you haven’t heard, Meghan Markle is starring in a new Netflix series titled “With Love, Meghan.”
And in case you also haven’t heard, the show is not exactly getting met with enthusiastic rounds of applause and/or praise.
First, Markle was accused of exploiting her daughter to market the series.
Then, she garnered some backlash when she corrected Mindy Kaling on her last name, claiming she should know by referred to as Meghan Sussex.
Meghan Markle has not received rave reviews for her Netflix series. (Netflix)
For the most part, viewers have come down hard on Markle for being inauthentic and self-absorbed.
But that’s almost nothing when compared to what Stuart Heritage of The Guardian wrote a few days ago after checking out the program for the first time.

The DC Universe is about to introduce David Corenwswet as the Man of Steel when Superman flies into theaters on July 11. But before the Pearl star got the role, several other high-profile actors auditioned for the part – including Patrick Schwarzenegger. The actor and son of Arnold Schwarzenegger currently stars in Season 3 of HBO's The White Lotus, and even has another superhero franchise under his belt, having appeared in the first season of Prime Video's Gen V. But as Schwarzenegger recalls, he came close to adding the Dcu to his increasingly impressive filmography.
During an appearance on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused, Patrick Schwarzenegger recalled his failed audition to play Superman in James Gunn's rebooted Dcu. British royal family news divulges that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s post-royal life has been a bitter disappointment. They rode out of London on a Freedom Flight, apparently to Nowhereville.
They clacked about being influential style makers, acting only with A list directors, and shifting the earth’s magnetic pole.
Instead, their distinct lack of magnetism has resulted in a dead-end life that consists of failed Netflix projects and a string of Nsfw public names (f****** grifters).
Some, like Piers Morgan, saw the red flags long before the masses. Here are some of those crimson flags you may have missed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Have Money Problems?
Financial strain can hinder a relationship and Harry and Meghan have been booted from Spotify while Netflix seems content to let the couple’s contract run out. Why the huge career rejection?
Because what have these two accomplished in their lives?...

Romance and war seem like strange bedfellows, but cinema has shown time and time again that the pair naturally work together. The inherent violent and grim nature of war can serve as the perfect storytelling counterpoint to the joys of love. Moreover, war is incredibly dangerous, and this creates an ever-present risk to lovers and often creates a plot obstacle for them to overcome.
Predictably, not all wartime romances end with a 'happily ever after,' but bittersweet tales of a passionate love well lived can be heartwarming in their own right. On the other hand, when the audience encounters one of those few miraculous couples who manage to defy the odds, it's incredibly uplifting. No matter the region or the battle being fought, films have proven that love blossoms despite all odds.

Even though we now have an entire franchise based around the legendary hitman John Wick, otherwise known as Baba Yaga, we cannot forget about the first time he graced our big screens. The first in the series premiered over 10 years ago and, at most, had a 30 million dollar budget. The movie informs us about his dead wife, Helen, right away through flashbacks as well as through John’s own grief. She knew that he would end up feeling alone, though, and arranged for him to receive a beagle puppy. The bond between a man and his dog (no matter how healing and heartwarming) did not last very long, unfortunately.

The best line in “Casablanca”? If you had asked Broadway lyricist Lorenz Hart that question on the evening of March 31, 1943, he would have recited back to you the following confession: “Nobody’s loved me that much.” This phrase makes at least three appearances in director Richard Linklater’s “Blue Moon,” setting a tone of yearning and compliance on behalf of the film’s main character, Hart, portrayed by usual suspect Ethan Hawke, this time full of tenderness and contradictions.

It is always hard to say goodbye. Of course, to be honest, once a movie or series leaves Netflix unless it is a Netflix original, then the film or show is probably going to end up on some other streamer. Still, you don't want to have to subscribe to yet another service just to see a handful of shows. Netflix has almost all of what you need.

The past decade has seen studio A24's popularity rise sharply, thanks to the immense success of horror films like Hereditary, Midsommar, and Pearl, and dramas like Uncut Gems, Aftersun, and Lady Bird. It felt like 2016's Moonlight ushered the studio into a new era, winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The last few years have seen the studio continue its upwards trend, with Everything Everywhere All at Once winning Best Picture in 2023, along with six other awards. A24 released another incredible drama that same year, Past Lives, which itself earned two Oscar nominations in 2024, and the film has finally found a new streaming home.

Two episodes in, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's Rotten Tomatoes score indicates it will be a success. It's unsurprising, given how fans have received the debut online. Many are praising the modernized depiction of the clumsy Peter Parker for a new generation.
Granted, there is still some consternation over Hudson Thames' comments about the theme of the show. But he delivers gold so far as Peter. Hollywood relationships are known for their unpredictability, but few have captured public attention quite like the romance between Shia Labeouf and Mia Goth. Their story spans over a decade, filled with professional collaborations, personal trials, and ultimately, redemption. From their first meeting on a controversial film set to becoming parents, their relationship has defied conventional expectations.

While many celebrity couples struggle to maintain privacy, Labeouf and Goth’s journey has been notably public, marked by viral moments, candid interviews, and documented milestones. Their story serves as a fascinating case study of how love can evolve and mature in the spotlight of Hollywood, proving that sometimes the most meaningful relationships aren’t the ones that follow a straight path.

As true cinephiles, one of the skills that we develop is knowing a star when we see one, someone who most definitely has that X factor. Mia Goth has been a notable working actress since 2016, but it seemingly wasn't until the 2022 release of Pearl that people really sat up and went "oh, she's got it!" The prequel to A24's surprise hit X that nobody saw coming, Pearl is far more than just the rare origin story that meaningfully adds to the mythology of a beloved character. It is the most accomplished film of horror pastiche wunderkind Ti West's career, on the level of both storytelling and technical craft, and it should be seen or rewatched before it leaves Netflix soon.

The bad news? Netflix is once again raising its prices, with ad-supported subscriptions rising $1 to $7.99/month and premium ad-free subscriptions rising $2 to $24.99/month.
The good news? Well, at least Cult of Chucky is coming back to Netflix!
Don Mancini’s Cult of Chucky, which brought Chucky into a mental institution back in 2017, is headed to Netflix on February 1, the streaming service has announced this morning.
The seventh installment of the Child’s Play/Chucky franchise introduced the idea of multiple killer Chucky dolls and also firmly integrated original Child’s Play franchise characters Andy and Kyle back into the mix, the film also starring Fiona Dourif and Jennifer Tilly. The events of Cult of Chucky set the stage for the “Chucky” television series, which was cancelled just last year.

Henry Cavill’s Superman replacement, David Corenswet, has appeared in quite a few interesting roles before his Dcu entry. One of these roles was in the Netflix political drama, House of Cards, which starred Kevin Spacey. By the time Corenswet made his only appearance in the penultimate episode, Spacey was fired from the show after his legal troubles.

Corenswet’s character in the series was not fond of Spacey’s character at all. The same would’ve happened in DC if their characters were to meet. While Corenswet plays the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s Superman, Spacey played villain Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns.

Some major shockers about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal exit have been revealed to the world courtesy of Vanity Fair.
The magazine recently examined the past five years of their lives since stepping down as working royals in January 2020.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Netflix And Spotify Deals Are A Flop
The couple signed major deals with Netflix and Spotify. However, the burning question remains: how will they make money when their well of stories and lies about the royal family run dry?
Not much came out of their obscene 100-million-dollar Netflix deal besides their docuseries about their love story, released in December 2022.
Harry’s “Heart of Invictus” was inspired, but it fell flat and didn’t earn enough dough for the streaming giant.
Meghan’s animated series, “Pearl,” was unceremoniously dropped in May 2022. Other Archewell Productions supposedly in the works, like the film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel,...

Meghan Markle’s Last Stand: The Kitchen
To paraphrase Winston Churchill, never in the history of streaming has so much been paid to so few for so little. But with the debut of the much anticipated With Love, Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have perhaps one last chance to prove they’re really worth the $100 million Netflix ponied up in that 2020 five-year deal to produce and appear in shows and movies. (Update: The series was supposed to release Jan. 15, but was pushed at Markle’s request to March 4 due to the L.A. wildfires.) So far, the couple’s output has been less than majestic. Yes, their initial 2022 domestic life docuseries, Harry & Meghan, was a hit, even if critics roasted it back at home (“So sickening I almost brought up my breakfast,” The Guardian sneered). But everything the Duke and Duchess have churned out since — their social justice series,...

With a slew of excellent, critically acclaimed horror films in 2024, could awards bodies finally give them more consideration? A few thoughts.
Update: These are the kinds of updates we love to write. On 5th January, something remarkable happened. Demi Moore won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical Or Comedy for her performance in Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance. There’s a whole conversation to be had whether The Substance is a comedy (or a musical), but more importantly, the occasion marked Moore’s first awards win, ever.
Moore gave a heartfelt, emotional speech on stage after picking up the award, and you can watch it below.
Moore’s win at the Golden Globes, arguably the second biggest awards ceremony in Hollywood, has solidified her as the frontrunner for the Oscar in March. She’ll still likely face fierce competition from the likes of Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman,...

Amy Adams made her debut as Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, before going on to reprise the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
Though Adams was a popular choice to play the intrepid Daily Planet reporter when her casting was announced, there was a perception among a lot of fans that she was never really given the opportunity to sink her teeth into the character and deliver a truly memorable performance.
Lane has since been played by Elizabeth Tulloch in The CW's Superman and Lois series, but our next big-screen take on Clark Kent's love-interest will arrive in James Gunn's Superman later this year, with Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel) taking over the role.
While speaking to Vanity Fair, Adams reflected on her tenure as Lois Lane, and shared her thoughts on Brosnahan stepping into the part.

In “Blink Twice” (2024), billionaire tech mogul Slater King (Channing Tatum) invites nail artist/cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackle) to join him and his friends for a dream vacation on his private island. As unsettling events begin to unfold, Frida is forced to unravel the island’s dark secrets if she hopes to survive. The movie’s spoiler-heavy trailer gave the impression of an “elevated” psychological horror, tapping into the social commentary thriller market of films like “Get Out” (2017), “The Menu” (2022), “Ready or Not” (2019), and “Glass Onion” (2022). Either way, it felt like a promising directing debut for Zoë Kravitz, and I was at the very least sold.

Death of a Unicorn is an upcoming A24 horror comedy and there have been some exciting updates about the film. Joining the increasingly unmatchable stable of A24 horror movies like Hereditary, The Witch, and Pearl, while also dabbling in A24 style comedy like Zola, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Disaster Artist, Death of a Unicorn looks to bridge two genres the studio excels at. Unrelated to Peter Dickinson's 1984 novel of the same name, Death of a Unicorn is shaping up to be a hit for horror and comedy fans.

Nymphomaniac was initially rated Nc-17 and contains many sexually explicit scenes and disturbing violence.
Mia Goth is one of the most exciting actresses working in Hollywood today. In each role, she fully immerses herself in the character, delivering raw performances that are haunting and unforgettable. Best known for starring in Ti West's films X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, Goth is incredibly savvy at picking her roles and has worked with some of today's most acclaimed directors, including Luca Guadagnino, Brandon Cronenberg, and Gore Verbinski. But it was her 2013 debut film, Nymphomanic, directed by Lars von Trier, one of cinema's most acclaimed and controversial filmmakers, that gave Goth one of her most memorable roles.

Will Turner wants to take control of the Black Pearl near the climax of Dead Man’s Chest, but the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel never explains why he requires the vessel in the sequel. The Pirates of the Caribbean sequels all have their own unique problems, but 2006’s Dead Man’s Chest is mostly bogged down by complexity. There is no denying that its 2007 follow-up, At World’s End, also features a complicated story, but that movie’s downbeat ending is its biggest issue. In contrast, a convoluted storyline is the primary problem Dead Man’s Chest faces.

David Corenswet—tall, striking, with a smile that could thaw the iciest of hearts—is on the cusp of donning the iconic red boots of Superman. The actor is stepping into a role that many actors would give an arm and a leg for—Clark Kent. And while countless renditions of this character have graced the screen, Corenswet’s take, under the sharp eye of James Gunn and Peter Safran, promises something unique.
Gone are the brooding shadows and grim intensity; the new Superman is a beacon of hope, compassion, and… a whole lot of charm.

Fans have been patiently waiting for James Gunn’s Superman film since it was first announced. There have been a lot of expectations placed on it, with audiences almost placing the entire future of the franchise on the shoulders of a new Kal-El.

Although fans could not be more excited about the film, the memory of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel still plagues their memories. While there is no denying that the film was a masterpiece, Gunn made it explicitly clear that his take on the character would be different.
With this in mind, it is not surprising that the new film’s teaser is getting pushback for not emulating a similar feeling as Zack Snyder’s films.
James Gunn is taking a fresh approach to Superman that stays true to the source material.

The Dceu was always a little hit-and-miss when it came to critical and commercial performance. However, the brand was damaged almost beyond repair when 2022's Black Adam kicked off a run of box office disappointments which, outside of Blue Beetle, drew mostly mixed to outright negative reviews.
At the start of 2023, James Gunn was announced as the new co-ceo of DC Studios alongside veteran producer Peter Safran. They immediately started working on a new slate of "Dcu" projects set to be released across film and television while the Dceu fizzled out in theaters.
While Creature Commandos is currently streaming on Max, all eyes will be on Superman next year. If fans and moviegoers alike have rejected the DC brand as a whole, then it could be nigh on impossible for the reboot to make the desired impact (particularly when it's sandwiched between The Fantastic: Four First Steps and Jurassic World Rebirth...

It's official, we will get our first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman reboot this Thursday. While we hold our breath and wait in anticipation, star David Corenswet has revealed something very interesting...and wonderfully uplifting, indeed. Sharing a new version of the motion poster for Superman, the image may have revealed the first sounds from the score, and it will leave fans of the Christopher Reeve original feeling elated.
While it doesn’t offer anything new image wise, the Superman poster seemingly confirms that the iconic theme by John Williams will be carried over into the Dcu reboot, though with a few changes. Slowed down and performed vocally over the top of the orchestral music, the use of John Williams’ score is undeniable and is sure to fill many a Superman fan (this writer included) with excitement and emotion the likes of which has not been felt for some time.

Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield has shared his reaction to Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi replacing him in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein movie. The sci-fi gothic horror adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic 1818 novel is expected to make its debut sometime in 2025.
In March 2023, it was revealed that Garfield was in talks to join the cast of Del Toro’s Frankenstein movie, along with Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth. However, due to scheduling conflicts caused by last year’s SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Spider-Man: No Way Home star had to exit the project. Soon after, Elordi was then enlisted to take over the role of Frankenstein’s monster from Garfield. Speaking with Deadline, Garfield confirmed that he has already met Elordi, revealing they were able to discuss the project. Despite his disappointment in missing the chance to work with del Toro, he admitted that he was very happy hearing that...

Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire, also sometimes known as Advanced Generation after the Japanese title, was the first series to follow the original series after its conclusion. It shook up the series' cast, replacing Misty with new character May, a young trainer native to Hoenn just starting her journey, as well as adding her younger brother, Max, who was too young to be a trainer himself.
This era of the Pokémon anime is severely underrated due to being sandwiched between the ever-popular original series, which maintains a heavy grasp on nostalgia, and Diamond and Pearl, which many fans believe to be a contender for the best Pokémon series to date. However, the Ruby and Sapphire era of the anime has its share of fans, who often cite May's journey from beginner who barely likes Pokémon to a top-tier coordinator as one of the better written arcs in the franchise.
