The "Merc With a Mouth" wants moviegoers to silence their phones in no uncertain terms as Deadpool & Wolverine looks set to air a public service announcement to promote the anticipated film. Additionally, the PSA has a cheeky tie-in to Avengers: Secret Wars.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool & Wolverine will run an anti-cell phone PSA in theaters in the weeks leading to its debut. The PSA, which debuted during CinemaCon, sees Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine discussing what could happen in Secret Wars. Each time Deadpool is ready to disclose potential spoilers to Secret Wars, a phone starts ringing in the background, leaving audiences to guess what he is trying to say. Before long, Wolverine gets annoyed, swearing at the audience and claiming it's a cinema and "not your grandma's nursing home" in his typically no-nonsense fashion. Deadpool subsequently calms down Wolverine to end the PSA.

Life has not been kind to Kevin Feige for the past few years. The Marvel supremo has had to face a lot of headaches ever since Avengers: Endgame, arguably the peak of the MCU, hit the theatres in 2019.
Since those days of glory, it’s been the same tale of woes over and over again – stories that have been unable to hit as hard as the ones in the Infinity Saga, and characters that have failed to resonate with the masses. The latter is indeed a long list, including the likes of She Hulk and Miss Marvel.
But one fact that encapsulates how the MCU has failed to hit home is how even the older characters have failed to recreate the impact they were expected to.

Real Steel 2 is not out of the question, as Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman continue to discuss the possibility. The original film has gained a cult following, increasing the chances of a sequel being made by Disney. Recent success on Netflix, support from Anthony Mackie and Levy and Jackman's recent teaming with Disney for Deadpool & Wolverine may help push the sequel closer to reality.
Real Steel 2 is still very much a possibility for Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. The original 2011 sci-fi sports movie was loosely based on the Richard Matheson short story "Steel" and revolved around a former boxer who looks to connect with his estranged son by building and training a robot boxer together. Also starring future Marvel Cinematic Universe vets Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly, the movie garnered mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and was a modest box office success, grossing just shy of $300 million against its $110 million production budget.

Director Shawn Levy's Real Steel seemingly appeared out of nowhere back in 2011, a film that boasted Hugh Jackman, only three years removed from his proclamation as People's "Sexiest Man Alive," and big-ass robots beating the cogs out of one another. It was a combination that couldn't miss. And it didn't. Real Steel was a huge hit, one that went beyond its Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robot premise (which the marketing of the film focused primarily on), as it proved to be a winning combination of heart, redemption, family, and Cinderella story. The effects - a seamless blend of practical and CGI - even earned the film an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects. Talks of a sequel began shortly after its release, and before we knew it, Real Steel 2 was put into development. Now, 12 years after the original was released, Real Steel 2 still hasn't happened. Real Steel, despite being a success, never got a sequel due to director Shawn Levy's desire to only make sequels that can match or top the first movie. Making a sequel to Real Steel may be challenging due to potential difficulties in recasting the character of Max, who has grown up and retired from acting. Anthony Mackie, who played Finn in the movie, supports the idea of a sequel and believes it could expand into a potential universe with an underground boxing circuit setting.
Even though Real Steel was a commercial success and received decent reviews upon its release, it never got a sequel. The movie centers around former boxer Charlie Kenton, played by Hugh Jackman, who is down on his luck. With robots replacing humans as boxers in the future, Charlie tries to avoid paying off a gambling debt while also being re-acquainted with his estranged son following the death of his ex-girlfriend.

If "Rocky" is for Boomers and Gen-Xers and "Creed" is for Millennials, then what is the boxing film of choice for Generation Z? One could argue it's "Real Steel." Yes, really.
Released in 2011, the Hugh Jackman-led sci-fi film is loosely based on "Steel," a short story written by Richard Matheson in the 1950s and one that was previously adapted into an episode of "The Twilight Zone" in 1963. Yet, the film itself was very much meant for families -- including then kiddie-aged Gen-Zers -- when it opened in theaters. It would proceed to top the charts on Netflix almost a decade later when the world was on lockdown in 2020, at which point it became apparent just how much of a lasting imprint Jackman's surprisingly heartfelt boxing robots flick had left on the public's consciousness.

Real Steel was released well over a decade at this point, but fans of the sci-fi boxing movie are still campaigning for a sequel. One of those fans is Anthony Mackie, who actually starred alongside Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly in the 2011 movie.
During an interview with Inverse, Anthony Mackie mentioned that he actually calls Real Steel director Shawn Levy once or twice a year to push for a sequel. That’s commitment. “It was supposed to be a trilogy,” Mackie said. “It was supposed to be three or four movies together.“
Real Steel starred Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when robots took over the ring. When he hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goto) to build and train a championship contender. Anthony Mackie played Finn, a friend of Charlie’s who owns an underground robot boxing arena.

MCU star Anthony Mackie shares that he's still campaigning for a sequel to Real Steel, Hugh Jackman's underrated science-fiction movie. Released in 2011, Real Steel is directed by Shawn Levy and takes place in the near future when robot boxing has become a popular sport. Jackman stars as ex-boxer Charlie Kenton, who trains a discarded robot to become a champion, while Mackie plays his friend Finn, owner of a boxing club. The film was a moderate success at the box office and there was talk of a sequel, but no follow-up film has yet come to fruition.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Mackie reveals that he's still very much interested in making Real Steel 2 with Jackman. In fact, Mackie says he still calls Levy about the sequel a couple of times a year. Check out Mackie's comment about Real Steel 2 below:

Did any performer have a better year than Andrew Garfield in 2021?

Now, the Screen Actors Guild has nominated him for his work in bringing Jonathan Larson to life in the Lin-Manuel Miranda-directed musical, fresh from his Golden Globes win for the role. Every so often, a prompt goes around Film Twitter regarding favorite underrated movies and of the many deserving choices, 2011's "Real Steel" routinely gets its fair share of mentions. Rightfully so! But then after a little while, those prompts disappear and nobody talks about the movie again ... until the next prompt, that is, at which point "Real Steel" gets some attention again before once more vanishing into the ether. For those of us who've chosen to die on the hill of defending a silly robot-fighting movie with a surprising amount of heart, it can be slightly maddening. Thoughts and prayers, please.

Real Steel 2 is still a possibility. This October will mark the tenth anniversary of Real Steel, the boxing robot drama starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Shawn Levy. Though reviews were mixed, the movie was a hit at the box office, albeit perhaps not as much as Disney had been hoping for. Possibly due to falling short of expectations, a sequel was never made and the world had seemingly moved on.
Almost a decade later, Real Steel found a new audience when it was released on Netflix during the pandemic last year. Maybe the movie was just a bit ahead of its time, as it seems to be just as popular as ever following its streaming release. When Real Steel made the Top 10 most-watched titles on Netflix, Levy realized that there may be some more potential there. In a new interview with Inverse, Levy reveals he's since talked to...

Could Real Steel be making a comeback? Free Guy director Shawn Levy teases the possible comeback for the robot-boxing franchise.
“In the fall of 2020, an unlikely contender climbed the ranks of Netflix’s streaming library. The 2011 science fiction gem Real Steel was suddenly one of the most-watched movies on the service. Nobody could say why for sure, but behind the scenes, the film’s director Shawn Levy and star Hugh Jackman were already in talks over what this all might mean for Real Steel 2.”

While Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have not shared screen time for a while, it is almost like they are starring in their own little show on Twitter sometimes with their constant back and forth "rivalry". If Shawn Levy has anything to do with it though, he would put the pair back on the big screen together, and he would do it in a sequel to Jackman's hit movie Real Steel. The director, who has been contemplating a follow up to the 2011 movie, has been watching the film's popularity grow thanks to streaming on Netflix last year during the first stages of Covid quarantining, and he has even spoken to Jackman about the prospect of trying to jump on board that particular property again.

It's been five years since the 2011 drama Real Steel hit theaters, which was a modest hit, taking in $85.4 million domestically and $213.8 million for a global total of $299.2 million. Back in 2014, director Shawn Levy teased that the sequel Real Steel 2 was being secretly developed, but it still hasn't moved forward yet. During a recent Q&A, Levy revealed that he still wants to make this sequel, especially since it's the one project he gets asked the most about on social media. Here's what he had to say below.
"The most frequent tweet I get is about the sequel to Real Steel. I wish I had a conclusive answer. Here's the truth: We started developing a sequel like six months before the movie came out. We knew as soon as we started previewing this movie and it was getting mid to high 90s at every test screening. It happens really rarely,...

Back in 2011, Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy put out a little film called Real Steel. It was a mid-budget movie based on a short story from author Richard Matheson called “Steel.” If that title sounds familiar to you, it’s because back in 1963, that story was adapted by the author himself into a Twilight Zone episode of the same name.
This adaptation from Levy had very little in common with the story or the episode, but it was still an enjoyable — albeit cheesy and somewhat forgettable little film. Performances across the board, which included Jackman, Evangeline Lily, and Dakota Goyo, who surprised me in the secondary lead role of Max Kenton. The movie didn’t kill it at the box office. It made just short of $300 million worldwide on a $80 million budget. It definitely made its money back, but it wasn’t really a money-printing machine.

From Night at the Museum to Stranger Things to futuristic actioner Real Steel, it’s fair to say that director Shawn Levy has dabbled in a variety of different genres throughout his career. He’ll soon call upon his knowledge of swashbuckling adventure for Sony’s Uncharted movie, but one project that is never too far from conversation is Real Steel 2.
Speaking to Collider after a special IMAX screening of the 2011 original, Levy revealed that plans for a follow-up to the family-friendly sci-fi were originally drafted up mid-way through development, before they were ultimately shelved in fear of repeating what had come before.
Per Collider:

Before the robot boxing sci-fi flick Real Steel hit theaters in the fall of 2011, DreamWorks had already commissioned the first film's writer John Gatins to write a sequel. But as the release of the film got closer, it wasn't clear how quickly a sequel would happen, mostly because of Hugh Jackman's busy schedule, which always seems to be filling up fast. We've assumed the project was abandoned, but while director Shawn Levy was at Tiff for the premiere of his promising family dramedy This Is Where I Leave You with Tina Fey and Jason Bateman, he revealed that they've been quietly trying to get the film made. Read on! When asked about Real Steel 2, here's what Levy told ComingSoon: "We have been quietly developing a sequel to 'Real Steel' for three and a half years. We've come up with some great scripts but Hugh and I...

Hugh Jackman’s sci-fi/sports offering Real Steel did perfectly alright by itself back during its theatrical run in 2011, when it earned a decent critical reception overall and took in just shy of $300 million worldwide ($85 million in the U.S.). However, over the three years since then we’ve heard little to nothing about development on a sequel – even though Real Steel screenwriter John Gatins (who’s now an Oscar-nominee thanks to his Flight script) was recruited to pen the followup even before the first movie hit theaters.

Steven Spielberg saw the end of New Hollywood in the late '70s as studios took control back from the directors they'd put so much faith in and now he seems to be predicting a similar meltdown, this time as a result of studios putting too much control in the hands of marketing teams and studio attempts to make movies for everyone. Speaking alongside George Lucas at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, the duo that most recently collaborated to bring us the modern day classic Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull spoke to an audience of film students about the current state of cinema. "There's eventually going to be an implosion -- or a big meltdown," Spielberg said. "There's going to be an implosion where three or four or maybe even a half-dozen megabudget movies are going to go crashing into the ground, and that's going to change the paradigm.

Real Steel hits UK cinemas tomorrow. It’s a great action movie with more robots than you can shake a stick at. We got to speak with it’s director, Shawn Levy at the Big Screen event back in August about the movie, how it came about and what we can expect from it.
Shawn has previously directed Cheaper by the Dozen and Night at the Museum, and Real Steel was a very different movie to shoot that either of the films. In this interview we also get to hear how he learn to use motion capture and what it was like working with legends Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis who Produced the film.
Real Steel is out tomorrow, 14th October.

Well before Real Steel’s release to surprisingly good reviews, producers were talking about a sequel. Of course, they’ll still have to wait to see how the Hugh Jackman robot boxing flick holds up at the box office before they get the official green light, but last week, while being interviewed at NYC’s 92nd Street Y, director Shawn Levy told the crowd he’d been told to start thinking up the next chapter right in the story after the movie’s first test screening. Real Steel doesn’t open in theatres until October 7th but the Hugh Jackman starring futuristic actioner is already getting an early ‘go ahead’ for a sequel, according to Deadline.
John Gatins who penned the upcoming release, has been asked back to write Reel Steel 2.
Real Steel is based on a short story from Richard Matheson, the legendary sci-fi writer of I Am Legend and which clearly has been inspired for the screen by the ‘Rock ‘em Sock ‘em toy robots. Real Steel 2—DreamWorks is pretty confident that its robot vs. robot flick starring Hugh Jackman will be a knockout this year. The studio has already hired its scribe John Gatins to get to work on a sequel.
How I Live Now— The Last King of Scotland director Kevin Macdonald is set to helm this British drama based on Meg Rosoff’s young adult novel about a teenage girl who is sent to live with her cousins in the English countryside. Cowboy Films is producing.
