Crescent City

Not a B-movie, but close to it, which is a shame with such wonderfully gifted actors.

I started watching this for the presence of the ever great actor Terrence Howard and Alec Baldwin. Terrence Howard still oozes cool, but Alec Baldwin is phoning his performance in.

This is not a B-movie, but it is cop movie without cojones, without soul. It's just going through the motions of a below average predictable, boring cop story we have already seen a kazillion times before.

NOT thrilling. NOT suspenseful. NOT original. It's a total nothing burger, that is incredibly tedious to watch.

These actors deserve a better script and a much better direction and production. Definitely to be avoided.

Don't Worry Hollywood Is Coming Back !!

This Was Filmed During a Unique Time Period When Hollywood Was at an All Time Low Driven By Elites Who Haven't a Clue About Sustained Quality Film Producing So The Actors Cannot Be Blamed For This One as Their Work in Past Projects and Successes Speaks Volumes as to What They Contribute and Bring to The Table Even Though They Seem to Be Pawns in What Was a Time To Forget About and is Now About The Renewed Future of What People Want to See Once Again in the Arts of Entertainment. Let's Finally Get Back to True Cinema and Let The Chip Fall Where They Once Cashed in !! The People Have Spoken So Let's Make Great Films Again !!

Believe every negative review. This was one of the worst.

Alec Baldwin, Terrance Howard and Esai Morales all in top notch films, should all be ashamed of themselves taking roles in this mindless dribble of a film..omg! The story was very poorly delivered, the acting atrocious, no one is likeable or believable and Terrance Howard's character had to be depicted as the black married man (of course) being unfaithful to his wife but even outside of the that, he just came off super lame and weak on screen. I really try giving films with good actors the benefit of the doubt but of a surety, there are no benefits with Crescent City only doubtful anyone will enjoy this crap. Believe every negative review. This was one of the worst, I've ever seen. It was just plain awful.

Don't watch this

This is a horribly written film that is not even campy worth watching and wastes a mostly decent cast. The plot, if we can call it that, is better understood as a drunken improve of frat brothers who think they are improving Silence of the Lambs.

Rather than actually develop a story line, the movie meanders from one pathetically obvious misdirection to the next, until the musical chairs of potential suspects haphazardly lands on one character. They film the pathetically tries to backfill the character's story to cobble together an underwhelming explanation of the why the killer would engage in series of crimes.

The best part of the film is that it ended and that I didn't buy it.

Shame on everyone involved.

So bad it's good.

Don't actors read the script before they sign up for a project? I can't believe actual famous people with viable careers volunteered for this and weren't under duress.

The basic plot is like someone was playing police thriller serial killer mad libs. They took pages from The Wire, from Se7en and a dozen other good movies, threw them in a basket and the first hundred pages they grabbed out became the final draft script. I have seen better from Eastern Europe.

If True Detective were a Hyundai Genesis, this is a 1989 Hyundai Excel. Remember those?

There's no logical explanation as to why the people are doing the things they are doing or why they even still have jobs?

But in the end, this hot mess is to absurd that it's actually entertaining. If they hadn't taken themselves seriously, this could have been Scream.

Not as bad as it seems

It's not an Oscar movie but it has an interesting intriguing side. I like movies that make us think without ever knowing who the killer is. The casting is interesting. Terrence Howard is excellent and I like Esai Morales, we never know if he's the good guy or the bad guy.

The direction is adequate.

On the other hand, the story is a little predictable even if the movie always makes us think to find out who the culprit is. The religious context is original. I don't understand why some people rate it so badly. There are much worse movies than this one. Maybe the expectation is too great.

And stop blaming Balwin because of the tragic incident in his last movie, it could happen to anyone. This movie passes the time on a boring and rainy day.

2 stars... only because I try not to give 1star reviews.

I knew it was just a bit part for Alec Baldwin, so i wasn't expecting anything special from him. I've never really seen anything amazing from terrence Howard, but I'm a fan of Esai Morales... especially later in his career.

That said, this was truly one of the least enjoyable films I've ever seen. I've seen worse acting, worse editing, worse writing, and worse cinematography, but in those cases it was obvious going in what you were getting.

It was just mediocre all the way around, the plot was paper thin, and I didn't buy anything that was going on with Morales, Howard or the Aussie cop... absolutely no chemistry between the actors.

I really try not to give below a 5 star rating, but for some reason 2 stars felt right after watching this.

No, No, NO, NOOOOOO!

Awful, awful movie. Direction was stiff, scrip was stupid, acting was...awful, except Terrence Howard, he managed to just be semi ok. Alex Baldwin wasn't in it enough to be awful and the other star, who is normally a good actor just chewed up scenery like he was doing impressions George C. Scott. The female lead was adequate and basically just blabbed and showed cleavage. How they got stars of that quality to be in this piece of junk is a question that needs an answer! I loved the end credits there were enough producers and executive producer to do 13 movies much less this sad excuse and waste of human endeavor. Listen to the reviews that give this a 1, they are right. I gave it a 2 only because Terrance Howard is in it and that is worth a 2 even on a bad day.

Wait for it to be on free TV.

There were six people in the theater on a holiday weekend. That should have told me beware.

The acting from a Baldwin was the worst ever.

The story/editing was hard to follow.

Please wait for it to be on TV for free, do not waist your money.

One good thing I can say is it was nice seeing people smoking and drinking.

As mystery the movie pointed to everyone making still harder to follow.

Terrence Howard was great and maybe the only reason to see this movie.

The other actors should not have been a part of this waist of film A C-movie at best better for a Saturday afternoon double feature than a main event.

Failed my expectations

I expected more and knew in the first few minutes it would be a flop. Bad acting, bad story and direction. Alec's acting was pretty much the same. Terrence Howard and Esai Moralas's acting was not good at all. I paid for this movie and tried my best to give it a chance but felt I wasted money on this flop. I think they should've passed on signing up, I guess once you become older it's hard to get those perfect scripts or phone calls from your top directors and producers. Nicky Whelan's acting was not good as well. I could expect her to be in this type of movie. Wished she didn't do the whole plastic party on her face, it truly shows and the bad acting made it worse.

Sucks

This movie has a cast of actors who have given wonderful performances... in OTHER movies. Don't waste your time on this one. I did and found myself here writing a review WELL before it was over. There are no spoilers in my review because none of the stories even track. I have no clue what's even going on in this movie.

The storyline makes no sense and has no clear plot. The actors aren't believable in their roles. The gratuitous sex scenes look like dogs having a go at it. Thank God viewers who DO watch Don't have to pay for it.

When the killer is identified, it's a stupid reveal. I've watched enough true crime shows to know that a serial killer has a modus operendi. These murders don't even have anything in common but headless bodies and mannequin heads. There is no real serial killer or even copycats in this 'story'. Sucks aa whole bag of d#*%ks.

Disappointed across the board

I was definitely hoping with such great talent this would be a good film and keep me entertained. Unfortunately, it was a big miss on many parts and I struggled to stay engaged. Overall, it was stylistically outdated, lacked any creativity, there was no depth in the character's development, and the plot was immensely predictable. As stated in some of the other reviews Alec Baldwin and Esai Morales performances felt inconsistent and phoned in. Based on the dialogue being poorly written I'm sure that didn't help the actors out any. I'm trying to find value in Tubi as a platform but most of the films I have watched or tried watching don't offer interesting entertainment.

Lacked depth overall

By the guys that made American Sicario, comes Crescent City, a lackluster mys-tery thriller that I couldn't stand until the end. Maybe the story spins towards something amazing or at least acceptable in the end, but the fact is that the subpar acting and cinema-tography threw me off.

The buddy cops Brian and Luke lacks chemistry, and most of it comes from the plank acting both actors Terrance Howard and Esai Morales portrait. The addition of Jaclyn Waters is a common cliché in cop movies, this time with the unoriginal idea that she will join the buddy cops rather than some old-timer loner. Nicky Whelan's acting is also bellow average - for some reason, everyone except maybe Alec Baldwin was just not feeling it, a potential direction problem.

When Act 2 started and things were still dull, I quit.

trying so hard and not getting there

A serial killer is hounding a southern town. Brian Sutter (Terrence Howard) and Luke Carson (Esai Morales) are struggling to solve the case. Captain Howell (Alec Baldwin) is their boss. Detective Jaclyn Waters (Nicky Whelan) is brought in to help.

This is strictly a B-crime thriller. I don't find much of it thrilling. All the twists and turns don't convince me. I question a lot of this police work although these may simply be poor police work. Terrence Howard is overplaying his PTSD. Initially, it doesn't make sense that his partner doesn't call him up on it simply for self-preservation. After the reveal, I don't know what to say. The filmmaking here is pretty poor. Nobody comes out of this looking good.

What?

The opening song sums up the movie. D. U. M. B The acting really is super as mentioned by others especially for quality actors(although I can't stand Alec Baldwin as a person).

Some good visuals. Script really does create shallow characters with no real depth. Makes it hard to want to invest much time in caring about them or the movie itself.

There are better serial killer TV shows out there like "See No Evil", "The Mind of a Serial Killer", "Interagation Raw" all though the later one is not always serial killers.

Anyway it was hard for me to watch the whole thing but I made it through. If you decide to watch hopefully you enjoy more than I did.
