For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.
The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.
February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.
There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

As we get deeper into the summer, entertainment offerings are bound to start slimming – particularly in this pandemic era. Perhaps there’s no greater example of the oncoming drought than Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2020.
Though the new options may be few and far between on Amazon this month, at least they pack a bit of a punch. In the case of Hanna season 2, that punch is quite literal. Esme Creed-Miles returns as the titular precocious super soldier. You can check out our review here. Beyond that, there are two intriguing Amazon original movies. The first is the Rosamund Pike-starring Radioactive and that arrives on July 24. Then there is the Dave Bautista film My Spy on July 26.
With HBO Max now on the scene, Amazon Prime is sure to lose some of its library titles. That can already be seen in the relatively sparse offerings for July.

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Acrimony, the new film from director Tyler Perry, along with the new poster and first look photo featuring stars Taraji P. Henson and Lyriq Bent as the married couple Melinda and Robert. For those expecting a wacky Tyler Perry comedy, you won't find that here, with the director taking a turn into thriller territory with this tale of marital strife that is much, much darker than the filmmaker's Madea comedies, but it remains to be seen how audiences will react to this type of movie from the acclaimed director.
Acrimony centers on a faithful wife (Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson), tired of standing by her devious husband (Lyriq Bent), becomes enraged when it becomes clear she has been betrayed. The trailer takes us back to the beginning of their relationship, when a young Melinda (Ajiona Alexus) first meets a young Robert (Antonio Madison...

Jaded theatergoers in the mood for something completely different should check out Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s new play, “Everybody,” which opened Tuesday at the Pershing Square Signature Center. It’s loosely based on the 15th-century play “Everyman,” which tells the story of a man who, in his confrontations with God and Death, can’t find anyone, except for Good Deeds, to accompany him on his journey to the afterlife. That’s also pretty much the story Jacobs-Jenkins tells in “Everybody,” and if you’re still intrigued, you should stop reading this review and buy tickets to the Signature Theatre production. Everybody else may continuing reading.

You know you are in trouble when the funniest part of a movie is Madea’s discussion of her retirement account. (She calls it her “Ho-01K” account, because she couldn’t open a 401K due to her illegal income.) Yes, it might finally be time to pull the plug on Madea, the strong-willed former stripper who just so happens to be everybody’s wacky aunt.
In his latest outing, the man behind Madea seems bored with his own creation, yet Tyler Perry only has himself to blame as writer, director, star, producer, and executive. His usual freedom and autonomy to green-light any project has led to interesting work the studio system might have passed on, like Daddy’s Little Girls and the somewhat brilliant Why Did I Get Married Too?. It's been a long time coming, but writer-director Eli Roth's horror-adventure film The Green Inferno is finally set to open in theaters this fall. To remind you of that fact, we have a new trailer for the film here. It takes a decidedly different approach than the film's first trailer that debuted over a year ago. This time around, we're introduced to a group of privileged do-gooders attempting to make their way to Peru in order to put a stop to rampant deforestation taking place in the country with the hopes of saving a local tribe from going extinct. What starts off as an eco-friendly mission soon turns to an all-out fight for survival. The film stars Lorenza Isso, Ariel Levy, Daryl Sabara, and Kirby Bliss Blanton. The Green Inferno opens in theaters on September 25th. Check out the new trailer for The Green Inferno below (via Facebook):...

The Celebrity Big Brother housemates have taken on a task after all their food was taken away from them.
Katie Hopkins was appointed leader of the 'cadets' as they were charged with earning badges to win shopping allowances.
The celebrities could win badges for Good Deeds, Sacrifice, Environmental and Self-Improvement.
They won the Good Deed badge after Katie Hopkins - referred to as Red Pigeon throughout the task - sent Perez Hilton to sit on the naughty step to take "a rest from being an obnoxious person".
Next was the Environmental badge, which was attained after the housemates passed household waste in funnel-shaped head-gear to each other down a line and into a recycling bin.
Then the housemates sat around the campfire and had to be totally honest with each other, giving criticism and advice.

I kid, I kid, but I’m also kind of serious. When someone mentions Tyler Perry, it’s only fair to think of him dressing up in old lady drag, bible thumping, and moralizing about how women shouldn’t open their legs for any good looking dude like they are a 24-hour Golden Corral. (Seriously, did you see Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor? Way to send a message to women that if they are not faithful, they’re going to get AIDS and everyone will hate them. Ugh!)
But here’s the thing: Ty Ty isn’t the owner of these kinds of movie tropes, so it’s about time we stop acting like it and recognize other movies that rely on these storytelling motifs. For example:

Good day, clawers of all things coffin-topped. Theaters this weekend have something for both those interested in domestic thrillers, as both Sam Miller.s No Good Deeds, and Leigh Janiak.s festival-fave indie horror Honeymoon are both out now. No, No Good Deeds doesn.t really delve in horror, but it puts the stellar Idris Elba that much closer to my genre of choice. Somebody give this guy a machete and send him after teenagers! In smaller news, release dates are all the rage. Relativity will be putting Tom Harper.s The Woman in Black: Angel of Death in theaters on January 30th, during what is generally considered to be the worst time of the year for quality film debuts (and the last few weeks are particularly January-ish.) Mega-producer Jason Blum announced the Blumhouse offshoot Bh Tilt, a label that will handle the distribution of horrors that aren.t headed...

Screen Gems will release director Sam Miller's (Luther) new thriller No Good Deed tomorrow. The film stars Idris Elba as an escaped convict with a dangerous past who makes his way into the home of a devoted wife (Taraji P. Henson) and her young children. As you can tell from the trailer, Elba isn't in his usual good guy mode here. I recently had a chance to sit down with the actor and we talked about how satisfying it was for him to play someone so evil. We also talked about the physicality of his scenes with Henson and the possibility of more Luther episodes (along with a movie). Hit the jump to watch my No Good Deed interview with Idris Elba. The film also stars Leslie Bibb, Kate del Castillo, and Henry Simmons. No Good Deed opens in theaters on September 12th. ComplexEmbed.Application.initialize({cId: "praHA5cDoqzKCGu...

Those Guardians of the Galaxy continued to rule the box office this Labor Day weekend. So where did that leave the horror offering As Above/So Below and the 30th anniversary re-release of arguably the most influential horror comedy of a generation?
As Above/So Below managed to continue two trends at once. First, the Paris-set Universal/Legendary horror film marks the latest found footage movie promoted in such a way as to hope you didn't know that going in. Just how on the outs is the found footage genre that Hollywood marketers are now going out of their way to downplay the format?

For evidence of how bad working actresses have it in contemporary Hollywood, look no further than the cavalcade of talented female performers who have subjected themselves to toiling in the flat-footed melodramas of Tyler Perry; if Alfre Woodard, Kathy Bates and Sanaa Lathan (“The Family That Preys”), Thandie Newton and Gabrielle Union (“Good Deeds”) and Taraji P. Henson (“I Can Do Bad All By Myself”) aren't getting better offers than to star in Perry's hacky, retrograde, low-budget movies, times are tough indeed. The most misused performer in his latest, “The Single Moms Club,” would have to be the talented comic.

In total, Perry has produced 16 films (including Smc) from the ongoing Madea franchise to stand-alones, such as Temptation and Why Did I Get Married? All of the films have been met with varying degrees of praise and success. But who has actually sat down and watched all of them? About Last Night
Directed by: Steve Pink
Cast: Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart, Joy Bryant, Regina Hall, Christopher McDonald
Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: February 14, 2014
Plot: Bernie (Hart) and Debbie (Hall) start to hate each other when a highly-sexual relationship gets serious. Meanwhile, their respective roommates Danny (Ealy) and Debbie (Bryant) begin to fall in love.
Who’S It For? Those who like their amount of real-life romance equaled to their sexual comedy, even if the sum is a bit underwhelming. And similarly, those who can look past a terribly made film.
Overall
Featuring three main performers from 2012′s Think Like a Man, About Last Night has a few credible moments within its story. With disturbing misfortune, they are amongst an experience of bad filmmaking. For sake of not losing my readership off the bat, I’ll save that tangent for later, and will at least start with what works here.

Not again! First it was Good Deeds, now it's Temptation! And, yes, I know what you're thinking, why would anyone want to claim credit for Temptation in the first place? But let's hear the facts first. The facts being that, today in an Indiana U.S. District Court, screenwriter William James, who lives in Gary, filed a lawsuit against Tyler Perry claiming that the premise for his film Temptation was stolen from James' 2009 screenplay Lovers Kill. According to James, the premise of a married couple in which the wife is tempted by another man and the affair destroys the marriage, was lifted from his script, by Perry. Following a solid $10.5 million Thursday, Paramount’s long-delayed sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation stayed on top of the box office on Friday with $15.5 million.
The action film, which stars The Rock, Channing Tatum, and Bruce Willis, may take in about $38 million over the three-day period — if that seems like a low weekend multiplier, it is, but that’s due to families staying in for Easter and the Ncaa tournament — which would give it about $49 million since its Wednesday night debut. G.I. Joe: Retaliation gained some momentum on Good Friday and held on to first place with a very good $15.5 million. Meanwhile, Tyler Perry's Temptation opened nicely, while The Host was a bit underwhelming. Including its Thursday gross, G.I. Joe: Retaliation has now earned an estimated $26 million through its first two days. That pales in comparison to the first Joe movie, which had already earned $40.3 million through this point. In fact, it now looks like Retaliation could wind up grossing over $50 million by Sunday, which would be close to The Rise of Cobra's $54.7 million opening weekend. In second place, The Croods eased a very light eight percent to an estimated $10.7 million. That drop is nearly identical to that of How to Train Your Dragon at the exact same point, which suggests that...
