Despite agreeing to share Spider-Man with Marvel Studios after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 served as an abrupt end to that franchise, Sony Pictures decided to forge ahead with its own slate of Marvel movies.
It's hard to blame the studio, as the genre had become a guaranteed money-maker. That was apparent from Venom grossing $856 million in 2018 despite largely negative reviews. However, with Avi Arad calling the shots, Sony hasn't exactly delivered quality comic book adaptations.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Venom: The Last Dance were middling efforts in the eyes of many critics and fans, but the likes of Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter were outright disasters.

The Amazing Spider-Man movies star Andrew Garfield as the web crawler and Emma Stone as his love interest, Gwen Stacy. Starting September 1, 2025, the two movies will be on Netflix.
Despite the financial success of the film series, they did not perform as well as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Sony had planned a bigger universe with the Andrew Garfield movies, like Sinister Six and Black Cat. The second movie not meeting financial expectations led to The Amazing Spider-Man 3 getting cancelled, along with its spinoffs. Another reason is the internal tension that Sony was facing with Andrew Garfield after he did not attend an important press event.

The concluding part of season two of Wednesday; the story of Charlie Sheen’s redemption; a clash between the two greatest super middleweights in the world; an A-list crime drama starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman; a lavish period drama from the creator of Peaky Blinders; and the third season of one of the most talked-about Japanese sci-fi shows are among the highlights of the new film and TV projects hitting Netflix in September.

Andrew Garfield’s next movie is coming to theaters on October 17, but ahead of its arrival, two of his most iconic movies of all time are coming to the biggest streamer in the world. Garfield made his debut as Peter Parker alongside Emma Stone in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and he later reprised that role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which also introduced Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan to the franchise. Both Amazing Spider-Man movies are currently streaming on Disney+, but Netflix has confirmed that they will also begin streaming on the platform at the start of next month, on September 1.

A new month is upon us, and that means a whole lot of shifting on each streaming platform. You may not know where your favorite movies are now.
Well, we can help you out. While some titles leave streaming entirely for periods of time, more often than not, they just jump over to another platform due to licensing deals. It can be hard to guess where they all end up though, so we’ve compiled a list for you.
There’s also a robust lineup of fall TV premieres heading to streaming in September, from the return of “Wednesday” Season 2 on Netflix and other returning favorites like “Only Murders in the Building,...

September is shaping up to be a massive month for Netflix.

The Spider-Man drought on Netflix is coming to an end. After losing half a dozen Spider-Man movies over the summer, the streamer is about to add two back at the start of September.
Beginning Sept. 1, both The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be added back to Netflix's movie library. When you think of movies with alternate endings, we'd guess the likes of Blade Runner, I Am Legend, and even Terminator 2: Judgment Day quickly come to mind.
While studios do occasionally test contrasting endings, that's rare, and it helps any movie to have a definitive conclusion set in stone when cameras start rolling. For each of the Marvel and DC Comics adaptations listed here, however, things once looked vastly different to what we eventually saw in theaters.
Whether it's studio interference, last-minute reshoots, or scrapped plans for future stories, each of these blockbusters came close to wrapping up on an unrecognisable note.

In a recent Q&a, trusted Marvel insider Alex Perez shared that Tom Holland’s time as Spider-Man might be nearing its end, but we might witness a Spider-Man 5. This revelation makes us hopeful about Spider-Man 5 materializing, now that Brand New Day is already lined up for release. But will Holland’s web-slinger get a better conclusion than Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire’s? And what villains is he expected to fight next? Let’s find out!
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Will Likely Face These Villains in the Second Trilogy
Alex Perez also offered a glimpse of what lies ahead and revealed that some of the villains expected to appear in the second trilogy include: Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), Venom, Tombstone, Hammerhead, and Prowler.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an undisputed triumph of long-term storytelling. The fact that franchise architects such as Kevin Feige have been able to tell interwoven serialized stories over the course of multiple films, television shows, and beyond, and have them still culminate in meaningful and affecting ways is remarkable. However, this approach has also very much not come without its pitfalls. For as awe-inspiring as the accomplishments of the MCU are when the franchise is viewed on a holistic level, many of those strengths directly correlate to frustrating or exhausting weaknesses within the individual films on a more individualized level. Perhaps no character is more indicative of this than Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
After years of being the sole cinematic property of Sony with films like Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man in the 2000s and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man in the 2010s, the iconic web-slinger finally made his...

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 will indeed be a dark tale. The world has forgotten Peter Parker, and he is without friends and his Aunt May. Grieving and alone, Peter Parker will also be joined by Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the upcoming movie (and possibly Venom?).
This will add a vengeance storyline to Peter Parker, who is already angry at the world for not remembering him. Well, to say that Spider-Man 4 would be a depressing watch would be an understatement. However, it still won’t be able to compete with Andrew Garfield’s 11-year-old masterpiece of a movie that traumatized a generation.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Garfield in the lead role of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, was released in 2014, and it is…the most depressing Spider-Man movie to date.

Emma Stone first played Gwen Stacy in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, and reprised the role two years later in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sony Pictures pulled the plug on the franchise after that sequel, scrapping plans for two more movies and Sinister Six. Spidey then swung into the MCU, with Tom Holland playing Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War.
Despite Gwen's death in the second movie, the plan had been for her to be resurrected in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Fortunately, that never happened.
During a recent interview breaking down Stone's iconic fashion looks over the years, the actor reflected on the time she spent as part of the Marvel Universe.

Before winning her two Oscars for 2016's La La Land and 2023's Poor Things, respectively, Emma Stone was a part of the superhero world. She played Gwen Stacy in Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man.

It's nearly time for Spider-Man to have a big Marvel Cinematic Universe comeback. Nearly half a decade since his last big-screen adventure, the wall-crawler will be back in a street-level story that will pull no punches. It’s a brand new day for Spider-Man in the MCU.

Now that the superhero’s alter ego has effectively been destroyed, Peter can be Spider-Man 24/7. With that comes new rules, new threats — and a new suit.
On Saturday, fans got to see an all-new costume for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man that will be worn in 2026’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Holland unveiled the new suit on social media in a video where he approaches the camera with his mask off. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still shooting in Scotland, but has another supervillain been spotted? So far, we've only seen the wall-crawler in action, though a few different scoopers have claimed that The Punisher is driving the tank and in hot pursuit of The Scorpion.
There's been a lot of destruction lately, and Glasgow World has been on hand to cover some of it. In a new report from the site, it's said, "When filming resumed there was a section where the tank is being pursued by another custom made vehicle. It had the same shaped prop at the front of it. It was the shape of a rhino’s head."
They go on to theorise that The Rhino might be involved in this chase scene, and while it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility, it doesn't seem overly likely. We've seen nothing from the set to indicate that the villain will appear,...

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the next big Spider-Man movie coming out in 2026, and fans are already buzzing about some new details from the set. The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker and is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
It’s set to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six and will continue the story after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Filming started in Glasgow, Scotland, in August 2025, where the crew has been turning city streets into a believable New York setting.
One of the most exciting things revealed from the shoot is a hint that the classic Spider-Man villain, the Rhino, might be making an appearance. Filming for the new Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is underway, and fans have spotted some interesting clues pointing to the return of a classic villain: the Rhino. The movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
While the film is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six and features a star-studded cast including Zendaya and Mark Ruffalo, it’s the Rhino’s possible “comeback” that’s getting a lot of attention.
The movie is currently being shot in Glasgow, Scotland, where the streets have been transformed to look like New York City’s Franklin Street. Among the props, armored vehicles with a red demon logo have been spotted, which some think could be linked to the villain Mister Negative.
But what really caught attention was a tank chase scene featuring a custom-made vehicle with a rhino-shaped head on the front.

The movie is currently being shot in Glasgow, Scotland, where the streets have been transformed to look like New York City’s Franklin Street. Among the props, armored vehicles with a red demon logo have been spotted, which some think could be linked to the villain Mister Negative.

Sadie Sink's mystery Spider-Man: Brand New Day role continues to be a hotly debated topic online, though we're still no closer to knowing for sure who the Stranger Things and O'Dessa star will play when she makes her MCU debut.
Jean Grey, Mayday Parker, and Black Cat are just a few of the names we've seen floating around since Sink's casting, but Kristan Harloff is reporting that he's heard a "pretty good guarantee" that Sink will play Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
She's certainly a good fit for Gwen, and with Peter Parker likely heading to college, it makes sense to add a character to the mix who defined those years for him in the comic books. If Sink is playing Gwen, we could see her become Spidey's new love interest or perhaps suit up as superhero herself.

With the shooting for Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: Brand New Day finally commencing in Glasgow, leaks from the set have started to surface, including a peek at the character’s web-swinging.

Interestingly, the swinging seems to be more akin to the pre-mcu Spider-Man movies than Jon Watts‘ trilogy, as the latter told Collider that practical swinging looked dumb and ditched the approach entirely.
It doesn’t look good when someone is just swinging on a rope. You think you’re gonna go in there, you’re like, ‘we’re gonna do it all practical. We’re gonna get a stuntman. We’re gonna be swinging around.’ It’s boring. It looks dumb. It looks like a monkey swinging on a vine when you put someone on just a rope.

It's been another busy news day, and we've now rounded up a few smaller items for you in one place. Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued filming into the afternoon in Glasgow, Scotland, and more footage and photos have just dropped.
In these, we see the wall-crawler swinging through Midtown Manhattan and riding atop a car. Imagery like this has been missing from the Spider-Man franchise since 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so this return to street-level storytelling and a greater emphasis on practical effects will be welcomed by fans.
Filmmaker Jon Watts was tasked with putting a new spin on Spidey after Sony Pictures very nearly killed the franchise, so his contributions to the character shouldn't be diminished.
He also left Peter Parker in a place which meant Destin Daniel Cretton could come in and deliver a take on Spidey fans have wanted to see on screen again for years,...

CBS All Access, later re-named Paramount+, launched in 2017 with the debut of "Star Trek: Discovery" in 2017. This marked a new era for "Star Trek," as the shows were going to be overseen by an all-new creative team, unconnected with the people who produced "Star Trek" from 1987 to 2005. Alex Kurtzman was the new head honcho of the franchise, and he had only entered the scene with his screenplay for the 2009 "Star Trek" feature film reboot. The ethos for the new "Star Trek" shows was, as trends would dictate, very different. Not only were the special effects slicker, but episodic storytelling was a thing of the past. New "Trek" shows were going to adhere to the "one-season, one-story" writing philosophy, allowing for broader tales of spatial derring-do.
Kurtzman, also a writer of blockbusters like "Mission: Impossible III," "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," was fond of violent stories and high-octane action.

After watching Peter Parker wear Spider-Man costumes made by Tony Stark, infused with magic by Doctor Strange, or designed by Nick Fury as part of an undercover mission, Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded with the teenager going back to basics and crafting a new look with only the resources he had at hand. Fans considered this to be the perfect way to end an exhilarating and unforgettable multiversal adventure. Better yet, the wall-crawler's latest homemade suit is simply stunning (perhaps one of the best made in live-action). As such, fans wondered if it would be part of the hero's next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be all about a new start for Peter Parker. With that in mind, it wasn't surprising to learn that the movie will feature a new costume. However, the small glimpse we got of it during the first day of...

The last time Spider-Man took over the big screen in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project, he faced five different villains from previous live-action franchises. But while it was exciting to see the wall-crawler nearly fight the Sinister Six with help from his multiversal counterparts, we need to ask ourselves: Where do you go from there? How can a sequel ever hope to top that? For a long time, neither Marvel nor Sony had a definite answer.

It's officially time for Russell Crowe to take the stand as the first trailer for Nuremberg is here. Written and directed by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 co-writer James Vanderbilt, the World War II courtroom drama takes viewers back to the titular trials, where the Nazis were made to answer for their heinous crimes for the world to see. Crowe plays perhaps the most infamous figure to be brought to court throughout the process, Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, a man both charismatic and monstrous with intimate knowledge of the party's greatest atrocities. The teaser gives the best look yet at the Gladiator star's stunning transformation, as well as the men, played by Rami Malek and Michael Shannon, who will be tasked with making him tell all about his crimes.

Having completed three weeks of release at the global box office, Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth broke new ground in the face of heavy competition. The movie braced for an impact a couple of weeks ago, when director James Gunn’s Superman debuted in theaters with a bang, and it had to buckle in once again this week, as Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps delivered a similarly impressive debut. Despite these challenges (and mixed reviews), Rebirthpassed a major box office milestone this weekend. The seventh installment in the legendary action-adventure franchise has now outperformed every movie in the MonsterVerse franchise, but is still trailing its three immediate predecessors.
With over $290 million domestically and another $416 million from overseas markets, Rebirth’s cumulative global haul currently stands at $718 million. The movie was produced on a reported budget of $180 million, which is lower than the $265 million that Jurassic World Dominion is said to have cost.

Raimi and star Tobey Maguire had promised a fourth movie, Spider-Man 3 felt like it had been made by people who were no longer terribly engaged with the web-slinging hero. So it wasn’t a huge surprise when Sony pulled the plug on Spider-Man 4, opting instead to reboot the character in 2012 with director Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield.
While many questioned the wisdom of retelling Spider-Man’s origin story only ten years after Raimi had done so iconically, the movie was a solid financial hit. Audiences embraced Garfield’s take on Peter Parker, especially his chemistry with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy.
However, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 proved to be a mixed bag. Fans were frustrated by the film’s many dangling threads—teases for a potential Sinister Six spin-off and a larger Sony Spider-franchise—which left the movie feeling more like one big Easter egg hunt than a cohesive story.

Most of the time, a director's original vision for a superhero film differs from the final cut that audiences watch in theaters. On some occasions, this change is so big that the director takes his disappointment to social media and claims that we'll never see the fantastic vision he had for Marvel's First Family in the Fox Universe. But most of the time, it comes down to making small tweaks to ensure a movie is the best it can be, and that audiences receive it with open arms. Well, the next big project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is no different.

There have been several horror films, dramas, and series in Hollywood, based on horrors that have gut-wrenching plots and stellar performances in every sense possible. But, The Purge’s (2013), equally sonic, and inspired by a real life incident, its success can be measured as the film starring Ethan Hawke, made over 3200% profit during its run worldwide, making a total of $91,266,581 as compared to its $3 million budget (via The Numbers); shocking audiences and box office analysts to the core. The film’s home market performance reached a figure of $12 million, resulting in over 3200%.
Years later, in 2020, a Hulu original, Skyler Gisondo’s The Binge, a parody of The Purge, became a must-watch. The reason behind it is just a parody, or rather, a clever flip of the script on the dystopian nightmare. Those pursuing acting careers in Hollywood seek out as many auditions as they can. The roles and projects they find themselves reading for vary in scale, whether it be a bit part on a network sitcom or a character in a major film franchise, along with everything in between. As far as massive franchises go, getting cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already a major milestone, but to also be in the standalone films featuring the most famous Marvel superhero of them all, Spider-Man, is somehow on another level.
By the time "Spider-Man: Homecoming" swung into theaters, Tom Holland had already made his big-screen debut as the McU's Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War." Holland's first standalone outing as the webhead was a coming-of-age film that evoked the vibes of John Hughes' seminal classics, such as "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (which was directly referenced and featured in...

Derek A.E. Fuhrmann, an ASCAP Pop Award recipient and co-writer of Phillip Phillips’ “Gone, Gone, Gone,” has died. He was 44.
Fuhrmann died June 27 in Nashville following a battle with cancer, publicist Harlan Boll announced.
Fuhrmann was a University of Delaware graduate, where his career in music ignited. While in college, he formed a band called Omnisoul that was renamed The Crash Motive. The band signed with Sony BMG in 2005 and went on to have a successful run as a group.
They toured the nation, and a few of their songs were used in television and film projects. Most notably, their track “Waiting (Save Your Life)” appeared in the 2005 Fantastic Four soundtrack and on the TV series Joan of Arcadia.
Fuhrmann went on to pursue a solo career as a singer, songwriter and producer. He co-wrote Phillip Phillips’ 2012 song “Gone, Gone, Gone,” which went double-platinum and appeared on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack.

When the majority of fans rejected Sony Pictures' vision for the web-slinger after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the studio was left with no other option than to finally turn to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige for help.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Sinister Six were scrapped, and Tom Holland was cast as the McU's Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Sony, however, forged ahead with its Venom movie (set in a separate reality), and when that was a hit, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter followed.
They were critical and commercial flops, and while the Venom franchise remained successful, each instalment grossed less than the last. El Muerto, Agent Venom, Spider-Woman, and more have since fallen by the wayside, news which comes as more of a relief than a disappointment.

One of the biggest franchises in cinema history is roaring back to life this summer as Universal Pictures' "Jurassic World Rebirth" is just around the corner. Though 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion" was billed as something of a conclusion, it was merely the conclusion of a trilogy. Three years later, we're back with a new dino-filled blockbuster that features a new cast in a new setting and will presumably set up a new future for the property. The question is, can "Rebirth" also keep this franchise's streak of $1 billion runs at the box office alive? Or are we going to start seeing signs of decline?
Director Gareth Edwards' "Rebirth" is currently expected to pull in between $67 and $77 million domestically over Fourth of July weekend, per Box Office Theory. That would be the lowest opening weekend for the property by far since at least 1997's "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" ($72.1 million) or...

Ever since it was announced that James Gunn's Superman movie would include a slew of DC characters outside the titular hero, fans have been concerned about it being overcrowded. Superman will feature various characters from across the DC Comics canon, not generally related to the Man of Steel, including Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Guy Gardner, and The Engineer, along with iconic supporting characters like the staff of the Daily Planet. However, Gunn has assured fans there is nothing to be concerned about, citing Christopher Nolan's Academy Award Best Picture winner as a point of comparison.

Even though Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four are taking over the MCU this summer, Spider-Man remains Marvel’s most popular hero. Iron Man's first real suit in the MCU is almost perfectly believable, according to an expert, "except for the arc reactor." After launching the MCU with his first solo movie in 2008, Iron Man's iconic look became synonymous with the franchise and the superhero genre as a whole. At a time when superheroes were still expected to be somewhat grounded in reality, the introduction of a genius with no superpowers to speak of was the perfect inroad to a cinematic franchise that is now replete with fantastical elements, such as magic and space gods.
Although Tony Stark isn't exactly the most relatable superhero in the MCU, he is still one of the most plausible when contrasted to such living myths as Thor and Hulk. Admittedly, things got less believable when Iron Man's MCU career culminated in his nanotech Mark Lxxxv suit capable of manifesting any construct he could conceive. Still,...

Even the greatest superhero is nothing without an equally great supervillain. Unfortunately, we often see bad guys underserved in the movies they appear in, an issue that's plagued the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the start.
Regardless of whether they steal the spotlight from the hero the movie is named after or are forgotten before the credits even roll, many an iconic villain's appearance has been redesigned during the transition from page to screen.
In this feature, we're singling out the baddies whose iconic costumes (or overall look) only got worse when they showed up in theaters. From classic superhero outings to more recent efforts, none of the Marvel and DC villains featured did right by the source material.

The bad thing about cliffhangers is that something can always change, and we never get the next installment. Just ask The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and all those post-credit teases. If they are smart, studios will shoot the next part at the same time or immediately after to capitalize on the fervor their unexpected ending could have. When audiences have to wait a long time, interest can easily fall to the wayside. We’ll see if that affects the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

A little over a decade ago, Sony Pictures set out to grow the "Amazing Spider-Man" franchise into a whole cinematic universe. Beginning in 2012 with Marc Webb's reboot, which starred Academy Award-nominee Andrew Garfield as the titular webhead, the studio had ambitious expansion plans with the upcoming sequel as well as a slew of spinoff films that were in development. Although "The Amazing Spider-Man" didn't receive the most enthusiastic reception from critics and fans compared to Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire's "Spider-Man" a decade earlier, people were still interested to see what Webb and Garfield had in store for the sequel. It offered a chance for this new reboot to distinguish itself without having to follow the tried-and-true origin story again.
Unfortunately, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" was an overall disappointment. The film received mixed reviews, criticized for its messy tone and a script that reeked of studio interference. To be fair,...

With Sony’s Spider-Man Universe meeting an end similar to that of the now-defunct Dceu, the next line of business in the live-action front is the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. To Sony’s credit, whenever Spider-Man remains at play, they have mostly done well, whether it’s the Raimi trilogy, the Homecoming trilogy, the Insomniac games, or the heavily revered Spider-Verse releases.
Although the plot for Spider-Man 4 still remains under wraps, according to new scoops, the movie might face an issue that plagued Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

It's been over half a decade since Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled on the big screen to undo Thanos' blip and restore half of the life in the universe. Naturally, fans are eager for the stars to align once again and see heroes from all corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe come together in Avengers: Doomsday. On the bright side, we're in for the biggest crossover of all time if the casting announcement is anything to go by.
Over 25 characters are officially announced to appear in Marvel's highly anticipated movie, with Kevin Feige stating that there's room for more. But while it is exciting to know that almost everyone will be there, we can help but wonder how the Russo brothers will balance such a crowded project. Granted, their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Engame has proven they are more than capable of shining the spotlight on many heroes at the same time.

When The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed both critically and commercially in 2014, Sony Pictures finally relented and made a deal with Marvel Studios to bring Peter Parker into the MCU.
Andrew Garfield was unceremoniously dumped from the franchise, and Tom Holland was cast as the new Spider-Man in time for 2016's Captain America: Civil War. The two studios now share the profits from Spidey's solo outings, but that hasn't stopped Sony from looking to monetise the hero's rogues' gallery with a series of mostly disastrous spin-offs.
Venom, however, was a huge hit in 2018, while Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Venom: The Last Dance performed admirably.
Despite that, the prospect of Spider-Man and Venom crossing paths was first teased in Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene. Spider-Man: No Way Home's stinger sent Eddie Brock back where he came from, and that was that.
