This 2010 remake was just bad, so bad, it fails to recapture the magic of the original!
Despite the return of the OG show creator Wenn Deramas, and strong performances of the new male leads, particularly JM de Guzman, this reboot version lacks the same compelling appeal as the 2010 Mara Clara remake. Lauren Young's portrayal of Via falls flat, her performance feels like a Benildean knockoff of Claudine Barretto, who effortlessly embodied wealth and innocence, badassery in the original version. Young was such a miscast and speaking of miscast, another miscast here was Eula Valdes as Selina Matias. Bad, bad idea. Yes, Eula is undeniably talented, but she will always be Amor Powers to audiences accross Asia, so its painfully awkward to see her take on another legendary villain role because Eula is already an ICON! Come on!
Overall, the show is just so-so. No wonder Lauren Young never reached Kathryn Bernardo's level of stardom after Mara Clara 2010.
