The seventh episode, titled ‘Foundation’s End,’ has him trying to convince Song and his partner that he comes to them in good faith. This scene introduces a new character, whose presence in the story means a new turn in Day’s arc, though it remains to be seen whether it will...

By the Power of Grayskull! The ‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie Just Got a Heroic New Update
Image
They may not be fabulous secret powers, but Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the new title treatment for their upcoming Masters of the Universe movie. The newly released video features the logo for the upcoming film, which, like its 1987 predecessor, will simply be called Masters of the Universe. The logo takes its design cues from the original logo for the franchise, which first graced toy packaging, TV screens, and comic books back in 1982.

The clip also features a music sting derived from the 1982 cartoon's theme song, albeit in a considerably more lush and orchestrated form. It also indicates a worldwide release, presenting the logo in a variety of different languages. The franchise has always been a hit around the globe; in fact, several of the final toys from the waning days of the original action figure line were only available in the Italian market. Those days are long since gone,...

‘Masters of the Universe’ Has the Power With a Major Update From Nicholas Galitzine and Camila Mendes
Image
By the power of Grayskull! Amazon MGM's live-action Masters of the Universe movie has finished filming, and stars Nicholas Galitzine and Camila Mendes have commemorated the occasion with Instagram posts showcasing some behind-the-scenes photos. The duo play He-Man and Teela, respectively, in the adaptation of the long-running Mattel toy franchise. It will muscle its way into theaters on June 6, 2026.

Galitzine showcased his swordfighting and boxing training for the film, which he describes as "the role of a lifetime," as well as some shots of him and his stunt double in a salmon-colored shirt, a nod to the typically pink attire of Prince Adam, He-Man's secret identity. He also shared a silhouetted shot of his He-Man costume; while the full look is under wraps for now, it certainly looks awfully close to the barbarian warrior's classic ensemble. Mendes, meanwhile, called the film "one of the most exciting and challenging experiences of my career,...

Image
PBS Masterpiece has officially acquired rights to The Count of Monte Cristo, a high-profile new TV series adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ legendary revenge tale. A collaborative production between Italy's Palomar and France's Demd Productions, the internationally ambitious project was shot entirely in English. It stars British actor Sam Claflin (Daisy Jones and the Six) in the lead role of Edmond Dantès, along with Egot winner Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Abbé Faria, Edmond's friend and confidante. The series originally premiered at the 19th Rome Film Festival in October 2024 and aired in Switzerland, Sweden, and Italy. Now, PBS Masterpiece is set to bring this fresh take on the iconic tale to American audiences.

"My Part Is Done": 'Masters of the Universe' Star Teases Her Mysterious Role in the Live-Action Movie [Exclusive]
Image
Venerable fantasy franchise Masters of the Universe is headed back to theaters next year, with director Travis Knight at the helm. Saturday Night Live alum Sasheer Zamata will star in the film, but her character is something of a mystery. While most of the film's characters have years of established lore and action figures associated with them, Zamata is playing someone named "Suzie," whom we know very little about. Collider's Taylor Gates spoke to Zamata about the upcoming film while she was promoting her MCU TV series, Agatha All Along.

When asked what she could say about the film, Zamata couldn't share too much, but she could reveal the comedic nature of her role:

"I have no idea what I can tease. [Laughs] But I finished shooting it. I think they're still shooting the movie, but my part is done. It's very fun, and that one — for me — is actually more comedy,...

After Leaving Amazon Last Year, Rola Bauer Boards Prime Video’s ‘Totally Spies!’ Remake & ‘Pompeii: A Day Of Fire’ As EP
Image
Rola Bauer is staying in the Amazon family.

Bauer, who was Head of Pan-English scripted originals at the company before departing at the end of last year, has boarded two high-profile scripted projects that are in development at Prime Video.

The Tandem Productions co-founder, who joined MGM as President, International Television Productions in 2020 before it was acquired by the tech giant, will serve as an exec producer on its live-action remake of kids series Totally Spies! and Pompeii: A Day of Fire, which comes from Michael Hirst and Ridley Scott.

It’s not unusual for a former buyer to return to projects that they originally shepherded, as an independent producer.

Totally Spies! is based on the long-running French animated kids series that debuted in 2002. It is currently in production on its eighth season and has produced close to 200 episodes. The live-action adaptation of the series, which comes from Banijay Kids & Family,...

Mortal Engines Cast & Character Guide
Image
Mortal Engines is a fun action-packed sci-fi flick with a cool steampunk world and intriguing characters. Despite box office flop, the film offers an entertaining post-apocalyptic adventure with unique cities on wheels. The cast of international veterans and Hollywood newcomers deliver standout performances in this visually stunning movie.

Mortal Engines, while flopping in theaters when it was released in 2018, is nonetheless an enjoyable action sci-fi-fantasy romp thanks to its great cast of characters. Based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Philip Reeve, the 2018 movie adaptation of Mortal Engines was directed by Christian Rivers after Peter Jackson purchased the rights to the book. Unfortunately, Mortal Engines bombed at the box office, which is a shame as the interesting story and world had promise.

Mortal Engines takes place in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world where giant, moving cities known as "Traction Cities" roam the land and consume smaller traction cities and settlements as predators.

‘A Column Of Fire’ Adaptation, Projects From Jackson Browne, Edward Burns, Blumhouse & Bad Wolf On Epix’s Development Slate – TCA
Punk (2019)
Premium network Epix on Saturday unveiled its scripted and unscripted development slate for 2020 and beyond. The slate was announced at TCA by Epix President Michael Wright. The network is coming off the debuts of the first series ordered by Wright, docuseries Elvis Goes There and Punk; and scripted dramas Perpetual Grace, Ltd, Pennyworth and Godfather of Harlem. Of the dramas, Batman-themed Pennyworth already has been renewed for a second season while Godfather of Harlem has been a major breakout hit for the network.

It includes A Column Of Fire, a series adaptation of Ken Follett’s Elizabethan-era novel, a followup to The Pillars of the World and World Without End, both of which have been turned into limited series.

Also on the slate is The Winter King, a series adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy of Arthurian novels, from the producing team at Bad Wolf.

Producer/writer/director Edward Burns is behind Gibson Station, a dramedy set in 1984.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Jackson Browne is executive producing music docuseries Songs That Changed the World, directed by Emmy winner Thom Zimny.

Here are details about the projects on Epix’s slate:

The Winter King (scripted)

From the acclaimed producing team at Bad Wolf comes this drama series adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy of Arthurian novels, The Warlord Chronicles.

Gibson Station (scripted)

From producer/writer/director Edward Burns, this dramedy set in 1984 revolves around three 20-something best friends setting out to pursue their dreams and seek out their place in Ronald Reagan’s America.

A Column Of Fire (scripted)

Based on the novel by international best-selling author Ken Follett, this Elizabethan-era drama, which debuted at #1 in multiple countries around the world, follows the romance between Ned Willard and Margery Fitzgerald beginning in 1558 and spanning half a century of political intrigue and turmoil. A Column of Fire is written by Lizzie Mickery and produced by Snowed-In Productions and Sony Pictures Television. Snowed-In Productions Ruth Kenley-Letts, and Mickery are Executive Producers.

Fall River (docuseries)

1979 – Fall River, Ma – home to the notorious Lizzie Borden, three young women were killed in a series of brutal murders. Police alleged a satanic cult was practicing human sacrifice. The cult leader, a man named Carl Drew, was captured and sent to prison for life without parole. Twenty years after the trial, the lead investigator became so haunted by inconsistencies in the stories that he re-investigated his own case after he retired. Evidence surfaced bringing the entire story into question. This documentary series will tell shocking true story of a town caught in the grips of the Satanic Panic, with new witnesses and evidence that shed light on murders that were thought to have been solved. Fall River is produced by Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions. James Buddy Day serves as executive producer and director.

Fiasco (docuseries)

From the creators of Slow Burn comes a new podcast documentary about politics, power, and uncertainty. Host Leon Neyfakh will transport listeners into the day-to-day reality of our country’s most pivotal historical events, bringing to life the forgotten twists and turns of the past while shedding light on the present. Season One of Fiasco will tell the story of the contested 2000 election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, and the extraordinary legal battle that followed in Florida. Fiasco is produced by Neyfakh’s Prologue Projects and Luminary Media, LLC. Neyfakh, Steven Fisher and Andrew Parsons serve as executive producers, along with Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver for Left/Right Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company.

Songs That Changed The World (docuseries)

Directed by Emmy Award winner Thom Zimny and executive produced by acclaimed singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, this four-part doc series looks into those transcendent moments when music was able to do what no other social force could: speak to our minds, hearts and souls and lead us to higher ground…and in so doing transform us…whether we knew we needed to or not. In addition to Zimny and Browne, Armyan Bernstein (for Beacon Pictures) will executive produce.

Tandem’s Berlin-Set ‘Shadowplay’ Goes for Edge
Period dramas rarely break the fourth wall, but for Mans Marlind, the creator-writer-director of Tandem’s “Shadowlands,” “we don’t have to be traditional. Especially with period, you need to be even more modern, to avoid the stiffness of costume drama,” he says.

“Television’s development [is] creating audiences that are smarter, meaning we can be more and more daring, which is what audiences are looking for,” says “Shadowplay” co-director Bjorn Stein. The show has been shooting since April 29 in and around Prague.

“Shadowplay’s” edge and moral ambiguities have attracted more talent. Star Taylor Kitsch recalls his agent, CAA’s Jack Whigham, passing him the first two episodes’ scripts.

“We’re always looking for something different. I pride myself on taking risks,” he told Variety.

“Shadowplay” is set on a large-scale canvas, the bombed-out Berlin of 1946, one year after World War II, as the war’s former Allies, the U.S and Russia,...

Sarah Gadon in Captive (2017)
Composers Mychael and Jeff Danna on ‘postmodern’ take on ‘Alias Grace’ and glamorous approach to ‘The Last Tycoon’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Sarah Gadon in Captive (2017)
With the score for “Alias Grace” composer Mychael Danna wanted to “honor the period” in which the story takes place, while at the same time putting a “postmodernist shade” on it. He shared musical duties with his brother Jeff Danna on this Netflix adaptation of Margaret Atwood‘s novel, which has brought the duo an Emmy nomination for Best Movie/Mini Score. Watch our exclusive video interview with the Dannas above.

See 2018 Emmy slugfest: Is Best Limited Series ‘Versace’s’ to lose, and where the heck is ‘Twin Peaks’?

“Alias Grace” revolves around a servant (Sarah Gadon) in 19th century Canada accused of homicide. “We wanted the music to be something that wouldn’t be jarring to the characters onscreen,” explains Mychael. “It’s a very square, controlled period where there are distinct rules and borders for everything, so we wanted the music to have that really square feeling to it,...

Michelle Dockery in Godless (2017)
Best Main Title Theme Music: Will Emmy go to ‘Godless,’ ‘The Defenders,’ ‘The Tick,’ ‘Putin Interviews,’ ‘Last Tycoon’ or ‘Somebody Feed Phil’?
Michelle Dockery in Godless (2017)
The 2018 Emmy nominees for Best Main Title Theme Music are so wholly unique that it is impossible to mistake one for another. The nominees include the themes from “Godless” (Netflix), “The Last Tycoon” (Amazon), “Marvel’s The Defenders” (Netflix), “The Putin Interviews” (Showtime), “Somebody Feed Phil” (Netflix) and “The Tick” (Amazon). Emmy voters truly went their own way in this category, with “Godless” being the only show to earn a corresponding Best Series nomination.

From a rollicking Western tune to a jazzy big band number to a cheesy throwback to sitcoms of old, this category has everything you could want in a TV theme song. So which main title theme song will emerge victorious? After reading our breakdown of each of this year’s Emmy nominees, be sure to make your predictions.

A Clever, Resourceful Special Effect Surprise
A Savant Article

CineSavant shows off an arcane observation: in 1957, scenes from a glossy CinemaScope Fox production directed by Raoul Walsh, were almost immediately re-purposed, with grandiose special effects added, for a landmark science fiction fantasy. It’s an opportunity to admire the resourceful artistry of Jack Rabin, Louis DeWitt and Irving Block, special effects professionals that did fine work but were seldom if ever considered for industry awards.

Back in the 1970s I picked up from Larry Edmunds’ Bookstore a copy of a one-shot special effects fan magazine that I think had been put together by the effects master/researcher Robert Skotak. The photo magazine lauded the efforts of a Hollywood effects partnership consisting of Jack Rabin, Irving Block and Louis DeWitt. Their names appeared on dozens of 1950s films, for their creative optical work — whatever enhancements might be needed, from simple title sequences to matte shots and even stop-motion animation when required.

Europe during the Middle Ages was a place of contrasts, where serfdom squalor festered in the shadow of royal splendor, an era of death and deterioration that somehow managed to produce magnificent castles and glorious cathedrals. Who Is Tom Cullen, Actor Playing Lady Mary's Love Interest On 'Downton Abbey'?
British actor Tom Cullen was tapped to fill the rather large shoes of Dan Stevens, stepping into the role of playing opposite Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary on hit period drama Downton Abbey.

Downton Abbey's Tom Cullen

When Matthew Crawley met his end in a tragic car accident, it opened the door for a new man to get close to Lady Mary – after a period of mourning, of course. With roughly a year since Matthew’s passing and Lady Mary exchanging her blacks for a purple dress last episode, it might be time for Cullen’s Lord Gillingham to make his move.

While Cullen is an unfamiliar face for Downton Abbey’s stateside fans, he’s rather well known over in the U.K. His breakthrough role was in 2011, portraying a gay man in the critically acclaimed feature film Weekend. Prior to landing the role on Downton, Cullen’s...
