St. Patrick's Day is a traditional Irish holiday, but it's also become a big part of pop culture with sitcom episodes and horror movies themed around the day. Although movies such as Leprechaun immediately come to mind when picturing St. Patrick's Day horror, there are several lesser-known gems in the subgenre that build upon the story Mark Jones created. Many horror movies with St. Patrick's Day-related themes include the involvement of leprechauns.

Leprechauns as present in horror movies stem from the Celtic folklore of "lobaircin", who were said to be small-bodied men that used trickery to guard their treasures. While the leprechaun has become the standard for horror films of this kind, recent filmmakers have explored other avenues of terror for the otherwise cheerful holiday. Many of the St. Patrick's Day horror movies are simply set on that day, like so many horror movies set on Christmas Day centering on the holiday,...

While the rest of the world is seemingly falling apart, there are some constants that we can hold onto. One of these is that Syfy will use St. Patrick’s Day to share at least one Leprechaun-themed movie, and this March 17th they’re doubling down by showing both 2018’s Leprechaun Returns and 2012’s Leprechaun’s Revenge. While the latter film isn’t actually part of the main Leprechaun franchise, Syfy’s theme means that audiences will be able to see the two titles alternate from 8pm to 4am Est.

We know our stuff when it comes to horror movies. From the indie bizarre to the Hollywood blockbuster, we've got this stuff covered. We are also ridiculously happy about all the mainstream media coverage of Sharknado. But did you know this is not the first on-screen Sharknado sighting?

There's no doubt the title alone of Anthony C. Ferrante's Sharknado just begs to be remembered. How could you not, right? Since we saw the movie weeks ago, the title has been nagging at us. We knew we'd heard that moniker before. Turns out we were exactly right.

On Saturday, March 17th, Syfy is set to debut Drew Daywalt’s latest feature film, Leprechaun’s Revenge, and in honor of the occasion Dread Central recently had the chance to catch up with Daywalt to get the lowdown on the project.

Director, and our own resident blogger, Drew Daywalt is busy in post-production editing his next film, Red Clover. IMDb refers to the movie as St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun, and while that may not be the film's final title, the website has announced the cast, which includes a few genre favorites. Last October, we were the first to tell you Drew Daywalt was embarking on a feature film after having successfully terrorized folks with his slew of scary short films and episodes of MTV's Death Valley.  At the time, this project was merely known as St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun, or as it was going out as at the American Film Market, Leprechaun.  Of course, the latter title leads you to believe the film is a remake of the Warwick Davis film...which it is not.
