Folk horror has been a favorite of horror fans for decades, stretching back to the original Wicker Manand continuing to the revival of the late 2010s (which is still going strong today) kicked off by The Witch. The majority of these films utilize ancient European myths and traditions. However, the rarer American folk horror films tend to either focus on witchcraft like in The Blair Witch Projector the more famous cryptids like Bigfoot. But in reality, that’s just a small portion of the terror a filmmaker can drum up using American folklore, as shown by the underrated Ozark-based film Lost Child. Making the circuit at film festivals in 2017, just as the modern folk horror revival was kicking off, Lost Child tells the story of Fern (Leven Rambin), a young woman who takes in a young boy living by himself in the woods, only to discover that he might be...

Did Nicki Minaj and Cardi B finally end their long-running feud, or was it just a temporary truce before things got messy again? After years of shade, diss tracks, and even a flying shoe incident (because why not?), the rap queens seemed to have put their beef to rest, at least for a while. Fans were shocked when the two, who had been at odds for so long, appeared to call a ceasefire. But let’s be real, this wasn’t just some small argument; their feud was practically a hip-hop soap opera.
Cardi B posing for a picture and Nicki Minaj taking a selfie
For years, their rivalry fueled internet debates, divided fan bases, and made headlines every time one of them so much as blinked in the other’s direction. So when the rumors of peace surfaced, people weren’t sure whether to believe it or brace for another round of drama.

The X-Files is a mystery in its own right because not only did it manage to pioneer a new sub-genre of sci-fi in the early '90s, but it also managed to collect an abundance of new fans every day. The show centers around Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, two FBI agents who spend their days uncovering the dark underbelly of the supernatural and strive to bring it to light. Thus, it's easy to say that this show has everything: monsters, aliens, and a ferocious slow-burn romance plot.
Even when the show returned in 2016 for two limited seasons, fans were impressed with how easily David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were able to slip into their roles again. As such, fans, new and old, often rave about their favorite episodes and discuss why The X-Files had such a big impact on popular culture. However, audiences would be lying if they said...

For many horror fans, no decade did it better than the 1980s. Sure, that was the slasher heyday, but there was so much more going on as well, from monster movies to wild body horror films. Two decades later, in 2006, three '80s horror legends reunited for writer and director Ryan Schifrin's Abominable. Among the cast are Dee Wallace (The Howling),Lance Henriksen (Pumpkinhead), and Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator), but it's Matt McCoy who is the true star in this fright fest that's part Rear Window and part monster movie, because the title is in reference to a killer sasquatch. Yep, Abominable is a Bigfoot movie, but don't roll your eyes just yet. Although Abominable is campy, it's also terrifying, with a fun story, and a creepy-looking beast you won't soon forget.

If you grew up a fan of the paranormal in the '90s, then you’ll easily recognize the name Art Bell. The iconic radio host of Coast to Coast Am talked long into the night with his guests, discussing everything from ghosts and aliens, to time travel and Bigfoot. Now, Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti is set to portray the late Bell in a new biopic from Ready or Not and Abigail directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Per Deadline, the untitled project with Giamatti in the lead is now in the works, with studios like Amazon and Warner Bros. vying for the pitch. The script is being written by Sam Chalsen (TV's Sleepy Hollow) and Nelson Greaves (Unfriended), with Sophie Cassidy's 2.0 Entertainment producing along with Jeff Katz, the latter of whom is an accomplished talk radio host in his own right, and a big fan of Bell.

Director Leigh Whannell is back with Wolf Man, a new interpretation of Universal’s classic monster that’s out in theaters today. The horror filmmaker takes a vastly different approach to the werewolf mythos, treating lycanthropy as a disease that yields no shortage of body horror.
Wolf Man doesn’t feature one transformation sequence; instead, it plays out over the course of the film and is handled completely via practical effects. Bloody Disgusting spoke with Whannell about the challenges of making a werewolf movie, tracking the multiple stages of transformation, and the film’s unexpected sources of inspiration.
In Wolf Man, the trouble starts when Blake (Christopher Abbott) travels back to his childhood home with his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth), with a strange creature driving them off the road and leaving them vulnerable to attack. Eagle-eyed viewers will spot “Pierce” and “1941” plastered across Blake’s moving rental truck,...

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
Eric Roberts appears early on in Shawn C. Phillips’ Amityville Bigfoot. He turns up at the derelict cabin that is purportedly a laboratory for Amityville Chemical and proceeds to dress everyone down for allowing Bigfoot to escape.
It’s not a great role and Roberts is very clearly playing Eric Roberts, but the over the top charisma (and chicklet teeth) of the slumming C-lister is enough to temporarily lift the latest Amityville film out of its doldrums and become something briefly interesting. Not necessarily something watchable, but at least a film that isn’t horrendously boring.
The same cannot be said for the non-Eric Roberts scenes. Phillips, a prolific Amityville contributor, takes a threadbare premise and, along with co-writer Julie Anne Prescott,...

Thirty-five years ago yesterday, the inaugural Simpsons staff celebrated the premiere of their new animated sitcom at an old-school bowling alley in the Los Angeles area, where we can safely assume a sleazy Frenchman started hitting on one of their wives.
On Tuesday, The Simpsons celebrated the 35th anniversary of its first-ever episode, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire,” by premiering the first streaming-only Simpsons special on Disney+, the two-part Christmas episode “O C’mon All Ye Faithful.” In the three and a half decades since Homer took up a gig as a mall Santa because Bart got “Moth” tattooed on his arm, The Simpsons has expanded into an entertainment empire unmatched in adult animation, and the quaint circumstances of the show’s launch on December 17, 1989 are a Smithsonian-level piece of comedy history, as are the custom Simpsons-themed bowling shirts the entire writing staff wore for the occasion.

Eduardo Snchez and Daniel Myrick took the world by storm in 1999 with their sleeper hit The Blair Witch Project, the influence of which is still felt in horror today. Despite that success, however, it took another seven years for co-director Snchez to make another film; he only directed four other feature-length films, and only one of those was a found footage film similar to his debut hit. Exists, released in 2014, is another story about a supernatural being lurking in the dark woods, but this time its not a creature of Snchezs own making. Instead, he taps into a "true" North American legend thats fascinated people for hundreds of years: Bigfoot. It may not be the greatest found footage movie out there, but who doesnt want to see a sasquatch wreaking havoc on a bunch of campers?...

An effulgent love letter to ’80s kid cinema laced with a distinctly quirky, Kiwi dryness, Ant Timpson’s heartwarming Bookworm reunites star Elijah Wood both with his Come to Daddy director and New Zealand (this time sans hobbit feet). It also gives pre-teen star Nell Fisher a breakout leading role as the precious kid to end all precocious kids.
Wood turns the quirks of his starry-eyed but hilariously inept dad into comic gold as the man does what he can to endear himself to his kid, with lots of funny business involving card decks, false thumbs, and chains of scarves. And Fisher makes an absolute meal of dialogue that would be challenging for any actor, let alone one so relatively young and untested.
When her mother is left in a coma after a tragic toaster explosion, Mildred (Fisher) is forced to reconcile with her long-absent father, Strawn Wise (Wood). A deadbeat,...

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Tulsa King season 2, episode 1.Even though Tulsa King season 2 just started, Sylvester Stallone's crime show has already revealed the best new character. Tulsa King season 2 has promised to be bigger and better than the first season, and one of the ways it's already fulfilling that promise is by introducing new characters. While they already seem like worthy replacements for Caolan Waltrip, who died at the end of Tulsa King season 1, there's another new character who's already upstaging them.
The cast of Tulsa King season 2 already has some big personalities. Dwight is obviously an engaging character on his own, but the rest of the cast is what makes him such a great protagonist. With Bodhi's dispensary and computer skills, Tyson's heart,...

A hiccup in the Hollywood studio machine has allowed indie films to flourish – and, crucially for cinemas, find a new generation of customers
This time last summer, British cinemas were holding their collective breath, looking forward to the biggest box office weekend of the year. “Barbenheimer” came to the rescue, with the doubleheader of blockbusters jointly chalking up an initial total of £30m when released in mid-July.
This summer is a different story. There may be no lucrative Barbie or Oppenheimer at hand, but the holiday months at the cinema look potentially more interesting, if not downright weird – at least when it comes to Sasquatch Sunset, this weekend’s new, grunting, wordless tale of mythical Bigfoot folk, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough.
