For her performance on Kimmel, Poppy stood on a platform in a white dress and white boots surrounded by flowers, while her backing band donned all black.

Poppy started out with an ethereal vocal on the song, which initially has a pop feel despite some metal riffing. But then she let all hell break loose a couple minutes into the tune with a viciously screamed section that surely must have surprised many in the Kimmel audience.

Image
Flying Lotus has directed the experimental comedy Kuso and the Ozzy’s Dungeon segment of the horror anthology V/H/S/99, and next up for the rapper and filmmaker (who is a.k.a. Steven Ellison) is the sci-fi thriller Ash, starring Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad). When González and Paul were cast in the film, Flying Lotus released a statement saying, “We are building something fresh and unique with Ash and having Eiza and Aaron in this world just makes it flames. They are absolute magic makers, brave and equally inspiring. All that to say… We ‘bout to kill this.” We won’t have to wait much longer to see how well they did kill it, as Rlje Films will be giving Ash a nationwide theatrical release on March 21st – and in anticipation of that release, a teaser trailer and a teaser poster have been unveiled. What Happened to Neill Blomkamp's Alien Sequel?
Image
Quick Links Why Neill Blomkamp Was the Ideal Director For an Alien Movie Neill Blomkamp's Alien Film Could've Been an Epic Legacy Sequel Blomkamp's Alien 5 Was Canceled During Early Development

Alien: Romulus has made quite a splash at the box office, proving that the public's interest in the Alien franchise is as strong as ever. The film serves as a midquel between the events of Ridley Scott's first film and the James Cameron sequel, Aliens. Over the past 45 years, the franchise has gone in many different directions, expanding its lore with a duology of prequel films, a duology of Predator crossovers, and even an upcoming TV series by Fargo's Emmy-winning showrunner, Noah Hawley. Aside from the hit 2014 video game, Alien: Isolation, however, there has yet to be another direct sequel that has incorporated the use of its most well-known character, Ellen Ripley. This is somewhat understandable after the...

Part 3.5: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Bridge Between Parts 3 & 4 Isn't Just Good, It's Something Every Fan Needs To Read
Image
Quick Links Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak Is A Spinoff More Than Worthy Of Being Official Canon JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3 Spinoff Answers Questions Fans Have Had For Decades Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak Adds Depth To Some Of Part 3's Best Characters

Fans of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure may have missed one of the most intriguing stories, which manages to tie disparate parts of Jojo lore together into a satisfying tale that bridges the gap between Stardust Crusaders (part 3) and Diamond is Unbreakable (part 4). The spinoff series, written by Kohei Kadono (who also wrote the Part 5 spinoff novel Purple Haze Feedback) and illustrated by Tasuku Karasuma, is entitled Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak, and it's a near-perfect addition to the Jojo series.

The spinoff stars fan-favorite villain of part 3, Hol Horse, alongside part 4's Josuke Higashikata, and is set just before the beginning of Part 4. The story revolves around Hol Horse being...

Neill Blomkamp sets next film up at Sony
Neill Blomkamp at an event for Chappie (2015)
Neill Blomkamp will follow the success of Gran Turismo with Alpha, starring Aaron Paul as an FBI agent hunting a prison inmate turned into an apex predator.

Neill Blomkamp hasn’t had a lot of luck with getting projects to the screen in the last decade. Plenty of ink has been spilled about his aborted take on Alien 5, but there’s also RoboCop Returns, the Halo film (although that project’s demise led directly to District 9) and, dare we say it, District 10.

The last project on that list may yet happen, some day. Blomkamp began talking about a sequel to his beloved science fiction movie back in 2021, with star Sharlto Copley adding a couple of years ago that it was still at least a year away from shooting. We’re now two years on and there’s still no sign of the film coming together.

Ouija: Origin Of Evil's Ending & Post-Credit Scene Explained
Image
Ouija: Origin Of Evil's shocking ending explores untreated trauma and grief within a family unit, leading to a destructive outcome. Mike Flanagan's direction elevates the Ouija franchise, highlighting his knack for modern horror storytelling and unsettling endings. The film delves deeper into the origins of the demonic spirit, intersecting personal loss, fake psychic practices, and vengeful ghosts.

The Ouija: Origin Of Evil ending showed that Blumhouse made a good choice by handing the franchise over to Mike Flanagan. The director remains one of the horror genre's best modern-day filmmakers, with hits like The Haunting Of Hill House, Gerald's Game, and Doctor Sleep. Blumhouse chose him to helm 2016's Ouija: Origin Of Evil, a prequel to Ouija. While the original was a box office success, it was also critically panned. Flanagan was given free creative reign to do what he wanted in the sequel.

The first Ouija film focuses...

Stars: Common, Jennifer Hudson, Quvenzhané Wallis, Milla Jovovich, Sam Worthington, Raúl Castillo | Written by Doug Simon | Directed by Stefon Bristol

Breathe takes place in the year 2039 when plant life has become extinct and, as a result, Earth’s oxygen levels are too low to sustain life on the surface. One family, Darius, Maya and their daughter Zora survive in an underground bunker making brief trips to the surface with an oxygen suit Darius created.

As the film opens, Darius’ father dies in an accident on the surface. Darius decides to risk the journey to bury him next to his mother. Months later, he hasn’t returned, then Tess and Lucas turn up claiming to know what happened to him.

Writer Doug Simon and director Stefon Bristol are short on details about how Breathe’s world came to be. We’re simply told that Darius was an engineer and a prepper,...

Friday Ratings: ABC Tops The Night With A Huge ‘20/20’ And Strong ‘Shark Tank’
Image
ABC’s 20/20 won the Friday night demo wars with a huge 1.0, as the newsmag and interviewer Diane Sawyer profiled the “House of Horror” story of the Turpin family, whose 12 children suffered unimaginable torture and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents. The show was seen by more than 7 million viewers.

Earlier, there was nothing abstract about the big winner on the network’s Shark Tank on Friday. A paint-by-numbers company called “Pink Picasso” closed a $400k deal after a four-Shark bidding war. The drama of those negotiations raised Shark Tank to an 0.6 on the night.

Fox’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown emanated from Hartford, Connecticut, as the Uso family revved up the excitement for a Sunday Survivor Series PPV event. The action brought in an 0.5.

NBC game show The Wall dropped a bit from last week, coming in at an 0.3, which was also the demo score for trailing newsmag Dateline.

‘Scream’ Trailer: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette Return for New, Bloodier Slasher
Image
“Do you like scary movies?” A trailer for the fifth installment of Paramount’s “Scream” franchise has arrived, promising a new, bloody adventure with the beloved characters.

Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers and David Arquette’s Deputy Dewey Riley are back for the bloody slasher, along with a new cast of characters, many of which will probably not make it to the end credits with a new Ghostface killer on the loose. The trailer opens with a scene mirroring Drew Barrymore’s iconic opening to 1996’s “Scream,” but this time Ghostface texts newcomer Tara (Jenna Ortega) before disabling the alarm system, breaking into her house and presumably murdering her.

The original characters explain to the traumatized newbies that Ghostface always targets people related to the Og cast. Sidney prepares for another bloody showdown with the killer, saying “I’ve been through this…a lot.”

“It’s happening.

Demonic Official Trailer: 'Don't Be Scared'. Actually, We Think We Will Be.
Image
Oh. Golly.    Here is the official trailer for Neill Blomkamp's deep dive into horror, his new film Demonic.    From the director of District 9 and Elysium, a young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are revealed.   The less we say the better but, nice! Carly Pope's character looks to be virtually descending into her mother's subconcious, for reasons unknown for now, and making contact with the demons in question. Whatever is going on in her mother's head then makes it out into the physical realm and then we cue the horror. Cannot wait to see this.    Demonic will be in cinemas, On Demand and on digital on August...

Neill Blomkamp's Demonic Gets a Trailer
If you scratched your head at the idea of Neill Blomkamp directing what looked like a straight-up horror movie, you were not alone. As it turns out we had nothing to worry about because Blomkamp's next project is anything but typical.

Demonic stars Canadian actor Carly Pope as woman dealing with some difficulties with her mother and using what appears to be some sort of VR technology to overcome that rift except in doing so, the lines between the VR world and the real-world begin to blend together.

The trailer is still a bit vague on the details but it does provide a bit more to go on than the images that were previously released.

In addition to Pope, the film also stars...

‘Demonic’ Trailer: Neill Blomkamp Unleashes a Virtual Reality Head Trip (Video)
Neill Blomkamp at an event for Chappie (2015)
Neill Blomkamp is back, with the “District 9” director’s first feature film since 2015’s “Chappie.” And his latest movie “Demonic” looks like a creepy head trip that will make you question your reality.

The first teaser for “Demonic” dropped on Thursday, and the film shows a woman donning elaborate head gear that sends her into an unusual alternate dimension — or perhaps some kind of virtual reality — where instead of being wholly there, she appears all pixelated and even inverted.

There’s not too many other plot details to be found here, but Blomkamp’s film is described as a horror movie in which a young woman unleashes terrifying demons and supernatural forces when a decades-old rift with her mother is revealed.

Carly Pope, Chris William Martin and Michael Rogers stars in “Demonic.” This is Blomkamp’s fourth movie, which he both wrote and directed, and IFC Midnight will release...

Demonic Trailer: Neill Blomkamp Returns with Pandemic-Shot Horror Film
After following up District 9 will the large-scale sci-fi tentpole Elysium, Neill Blomkamp slightly lessened his scope with Chappie. Now, for his next feature, he made the best of the restrictions of the pandemic to film a down-and-dirty horror film in British Columbia, Canada. Ahead of an August 20 release from IFC Midnight, the first trailer for Demonic has now arrived.

Starring Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Nathalie Boltt, the film follows a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are revealed. The first trailer reveals the director is delighting in his grislier side for what are hopefully some effective scares.

Terrifying First Teaser Trailer for Neill Blomkamp's Horror 'Demonic'
Demonic (2015)
"Don't be scared." Whoa! This looks insanely frightening! IFC Midnight has revealed the first teaser trailer for a new horror film titled Demonic, made by sci-fi filmmaker Neill Blomkamp branching into horror. He made this film quietly last year, taking friends and a small crew up into the Canadian forest during the pandemic summer. Aside from a few hints here & there, not much is known about it - or what happens in it. The short synopsis only says: A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother & daughter are ruthlessly revealed. The film stars Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers. This first teaser has so many "holy shit!" shots in it, frrom the creepy hand at the door, to the strange people in the woods. ‘Demonic’ Trailer: Neill Blomkamp Returns With A Terrifying Supernatural Horror Project
Image
It’s been a somewhat tough decade for writer-director Neill Blomkamp. Since his box-office hit feature debut “District 9” garnered four Oscar nominations in 2009, the South African-Canadian sci-fi auteur has released two major films to diminishing critical and commercial returns: 2013’s “Elysium” (a mega-budgeted misfire by the director’s own admission) and 2015’s “Chappie” (which flopped despite a stellar cast and lighter tone). Perhaps even more significant are the films Blompkamp ended up not making: he’s been hired and fired from shelved sequels to both “Alien” and “RoboCop,” two of the most beloved franchises in modern movies. If either of those projects came together, his cultural footprint might more closely resemble a Ridley Scott or James Cameron. However, notwithstanding a devoted cult following, Blomkamp’s career hasn’t quite delivered on the promise of his early success.

‘Demonic’ Trailer: Neill Blomkamp Returns After ‘Chappie’ with Supernatural Horror
Image
Neill Blomkamp hasn’t released a directorial feature in the six years since “Chappie” flopped with film critics. The negative press around “Chappie” was a far cry from Blomkamp’s 2009 feature directorial debut “District 9,” a critical sensation that grossed $210 million worldwide and earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for Neill Blomkamp and co-writer Terri Tatchell. The Oscar nominee went on to helm “Elysium” and “Chappie,” but neither could match the critical highs of his debut. Now comes “Demonic,” a smaller scale Blomkamp effort made during the pandemic and starring Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers.

The brief official synopsis for “Demonic” from IFC Midnight reads: “A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are revealed.”

First Look at Neill Blomkamp's Demonic [Images]
Neill Blomkamp is back but the director who is best known for his sci-fi movies is dipping his toes into horror with his new feature Demonic.

Written and directed by Blomkamp, the film stars Carly Pope, Nathalie Boltt, Chris William Martin, Michael J Rogers, and Andrea Agur but beyond that, there's very little information on the film beyond the official synopsis which reads:

A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed.

While there aren't many more details on the movie, a pair of new images and a behind-the-scenes video were released today.

Demonic will open in theatres on August 20 and be available on VOD and Digital on August 2...

Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Demonic’ Debuts First Look Photos and 8mm Footage From Behind the Scenes
Neill Blomkamp at an event for Chappie (2015)
It’s been six years since District 9 director Neill Blomkamp delivered a feature film, and it was the disappointing sci-fi action movie Chappie. But when Blomkamp returns to the big screen this year, it will be in an entirely new genre. Demonic is a new supernatural horror thriller debuting at the end of the summer […]

Demonic Behind-the-Scenes Teaser Brings First Look at Neill Blomkamp's New Horror Movie
Image
The first images and some behind-the-scenes footage from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp's upcoming horror venture, Demonic, quickly go to show that the movie will certainly live up to that title. Written and directed by Blomkamp, the filmmaker crafted Demonic under the radar after production was forced to pause on the AGC-backed Taylor Kitsch action thriller The Inferno amid the ongoing global situation.

In Demonic, a young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are revealed. The first image depicts a character looking very much the worse for wear and tied up in what can surely only be for nefarious purposes. The second image shows another character strapped into some sort of neural reader that will no doubt have ties to the horror elements at the center of Demonic.

Neill Blomkamp has also now provided further...

Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Demonic’ First Look: Watch Behind-The-Scenes 8mm Footage & More
Image
What did you do during the pandemic? If you’re a filmmaker with horror tendencies, you made a lo-fi horror film, it seems. That’s what Ben Wheatley did with “In The Earth,” same with filmmaking duo Nick Simon and writer/actor Luke Baine (“The Girl in the Photographs“), and it’s also what “District 9” and “Chappie” director Neill Blomkamp did too with his “free time.” The result is “Demonic,” a horror-thriller about unleashing demons and supernatural forces between family members.

Neill Blomkamp at an event for Chappie (2015)
In 2020, Neill Blomkamp began shooting a secret horror film known only as Demonic. Time for a first look sneak peek! Last year it was revealed that filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, who lives up in Vancouver, Canada, decided to go out and shoot a low budget horror film in the woods during the pandemic summer. The title of the film is Demonic, but aside from a few hints here & there, not much is known about it - or what happens in it. The short synopsis: A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother & daughter are ruthlessly revealed. The film stars Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers. We now have two new photos and a fun little "behind-the-scenes 8mm" teaser to start building hype. There isn't much to this teaser, except a shot of Carly Pope floating, and some drones getting...

Indie Film Temperature Check: Vaccines Roll Out And Production Revs Up But Insurers, Banks Still Mia
Image
With more than 50% of the U.S. adult population at least half vaccinated and studios plotting start dates, visions of a return to normalcy abound. So what’s the prognosis for independent film, when insurers and bank lenders remain on the sidelines even as production perks up?

Mark Gill, CEO of Solstice Studios, said things are looking up and he’s hoping to stick to a September shooting date for Hypnotic, the Robert Rodriquez thriller with Ben Affleck. But right now, “You have trouble financing any size of movie except the small ones.”

“Mostly what we do is [in the range of] $40 million to $80 million that made it impossible for us to go into production. I had hoped it would ease up.”

“As soon as the insurance is workable, it all snaps back,” Gill added, referring to Covid-19 insurance, which disappeared for new independent productions over a year ago. Specialty insurance is available but...

Neill Blomkamp’s Under-The-Radar Horror Thriller ‘Demonic’ Gets U.S. Deal With IFC Midnight
Image
IFC Midnight said Wednesday that it is acquiring U.S. rights to Neill Blomkamp’s new film Demonic, a horror thriller starring Elysium‘s Carly Pope, Chris William Martin and Michael Rogers. The pic, co-produced and co-financed by AGC Studios and Stabiliti Studios and which was selling international rights during last month’s European Film Market, will now be released on August 20, 2021.

The backstory to the pic, written and directed by the District 9 and Elysium helmer in his first movie since 2015’s Chappie, is interesting: Deadline scooped a couple months ago that he shot it under the radar in British Columbia over the summer during the pandemic, after he had to pause on moving forward with the AGC-backed Taylor Kitsch action thriller The Inferno because of the Covid shutdown.

The result is Demonic. The plot centers on a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at...
