Aileen Wu in Alien: Romulus (2024)

Trivia

Alien: Romulus

Edit
Director Fede Alvarez sought out the special effects crew from Aliens, le retour (1986) to work on the creatures. Physical sets, practical creatures, and miniatures were used wherever possible to help ground later VFX work.
The events of the film take place in the year 2142, exactly 20 years after Alien, le 8ème passager (1979) (situated in 2122), and 37 years before Aliens, le retour (1986) (2179).
The film's production design draws not only on the previous films in the series, but also the Alien: Isolation (2014) video game, including the "Emergency" communication stations which served as save points in the game. Fede Alvarez played the game around the time Don't Breathe : La Maison des ténèbres (2016) was released, and later said, "I was playing, and realizing how terrifying Alien could be if you take it back to that tone."
The Alien cinematic chronology is as follows:
  • Prometheus (2012) takes place in 2093.
  • Alien: Covenant (2017) takes place in 2104.
  • Alien, le 8ème passager (1979) takes place in 2122.
  • Alien: Romulus (2024) takes place in 2142.
  • Aliens, le retour (1986) takes place in 2179.
  • Alien³ (1992) takes place in 2179.
  • Alien, la résurrection (1997) takes place in 2381.
Although Alien: Isolation (2014) is not a film, the video game's events (which occur in 2137, five years before Romulus) are considered to be officially part of the Alien canon, and director Fede Alvarez has acknowledged the game's aesthetic influence on his film.
The most profitable Alien film since Aliens, le retour (1986).
