Series Creator Mitch Glazer is a Miami native. He based many of the stories in the show on experiences he heard about growing up, and while researching later as a journalist. He originally thought it would be a feature film, but he had too much material, so it became a television series.

When asked about her nudity in an interview, she said, "As an actor you don't even think twice about it. There's nudity, but when the writing is so good and the scenes are so good, you don't even realize there's nudity."
