Adaptations can often be polarizing. But the controversy surrounding this Snow White has little to do with the story.

Sometimes, discussing a controversy means delving into the heart of a complex issue, or questioning whether we can separate a piece of media from a horrible person who is a part of it. Both of those do come up when discussing this film.

But in this case, the first “controversy” about Snow White is neither.

Grimm is one of the most popular fantasy series of the past decade and is undeniably unique. Grimm follows a Portland detective who learns he comes from a mythical line of Grimms, especially gifted humans who possess unique powers, including seeing the true forms of animalistic creatures known as Wesen. Throughout the series, the detective Nick Burkhardt and his friends investigate many cases involving an eclectic range of Wesen and similar creatures.

Grimm is a very creative series and draws its source material from urban legends and fairy tales, mainly from those written by the Brothers Grimm. Occasionally, Grimm even alludes that Wesen are the real figures beyond these fairytales. Grimm transforms this medieval source material into a tale fit for a criminal caper with fantasy flair, paying homage to the fairytale.

Hollywood tie-in novelist Tim Waggoner discusses his creative process and the constraints of working within the confines of the movie he's adapting.

Waggoner is an accomplished tie-in novelist, with film novelizations like Halloween Kills, XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Alien, Kingsman: The Golden Circle and television novelizations like Supernatural, Grimm and Stargate Sg-1 under his belt. He's written original fiction as well. Waggoner told The Hollywood Reporter about his experience writing for the A24 film trilogy starring Mia Goth. One of the great challenges of being a tie-in novelist is the lack of communication with the original work's creators.

Sometimes Tim Waggoner can make up scenes, and sometimes he can’t.

Take his work on Terrifier 2, a novelization of the popular 2022 killer-clown slasher movie. The studio wanted a 100,000-word prose adaptation of a film that was under two and a half hours, necessitating some creative license from the author. “If Art the Clown is running around killing people, I can just have him kill some more people,” says Waggoner of that book, which published this past October. “At one point in the movie, he’s driving a van, so I’m like, ‘Oh, where’d he get his van?’ So I wrote a scene where he got the van.”

Since 1988, the National Film Registry collects and preserves important films, as selected by a public nomination, from the entire history of US cinema. However, with only 25 new entries making the list each year, the registry is set to welcome the 876th through to the 900th entry in December 2024.

A new trailer has dropped for Daddy, a thought-provoking sci-fi dark comedy starring Yuriy Sardarov, best known for his role on NBC's hit series Chicago Fire.

Flickering Myth has unveiled the trailer and poster for Daddy, a dystopian dark comedy co-written and co-directed by Neal Kelley and Jono Sherman, marking their feature film debut. Daddy is being released theatrically and digitally by Anchor Bay Entertainment, which most recently released the horror film Abruptio with Jordan Peele.

Daddy is set in a dystopian society where the state has the power to determine who can and cannot father children.

Supernatural was one of the biggest IPs that CW had on its hands, running for a whopping 15 seasons, clocking in at around 327 episodes. Jensen Ackles, the actor who played Dean Winchester, revealed how he figured out how big the show had become after the first season, before which he thought it was more akin to shooting a horror film every week.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer changed TV for the better when it debuted on the WB Network in 1997. This supernatural TV show paved the way for what a quality female protagonist looks like today. With complicated love triangles between humans and vampires, complex characters, intense storylines, and a stellar cast, several shows have used Buffy the Vampire Slayer as the road map to success.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's popularity is still cemented in pop culture nearly two decades later. Parker Finn's 2022 horror film "Smile" has a novel premise and a monster that is difficult to describe. The film begins when the lead character, a therapist named Rose (Sosie Bacon), has a strange encounter with a student, Laura (Caitlin Stasey). Laura is in a panic, having spent several day beset by hallucinations. She has been seeing people she knows appearing out of nowhere and grinning at her fiendishly. She knows these people are, in fact, a singular shapeshifting demon of some kind, and it is encouraging her to die by suicide. Then, as she predicted, Laura also pastes on a bleak, intense smile, and slits her throat right in front of Rose.

Rose soon begins experiencing similar hallucinations, wherein people she knows appear in her mind's eye, all of them wearing a scary rictus. Rose soon discovers that the grinning entity is an ancient supernatural creature that feeds on trauma.
