Given the generally harsh fan and critical reaction to Star Trek: Section 31, it remains to be seen if Michelle Yeoh will be called upon to reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in a sequel. But the Oscar-winning actress, who just wrapped an extensive promo tour on behalf of Section 31 and served as one of its executive producers, is not lacking for upcoming projects.

Yeoh can currently be seen on screen and at home, now that it’s available for streaming, in Wicked. She will return as Madame Morrible, the duplicitous headmistress of Craig Hall at Shiz University, in the much-anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good. Although Harrison Ford is synonymous with multiple franchises and countless memorable performances, he wasn’t always such a household name.

Ridley Scott recently revealed that the actor, who just received his fifth Golden Globe nomination, wasn’t such an easy sell for the lead role of Rick Deckard in his 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner.

“Harrison Ford was not a star yet,” explained Scott to GQ. “He had just finished flying the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars. I remember my financiers saying, ‘Who the f— is Harrison Ford?’ I said, ‘You’re going to find out.’ So Harry became my leading man.”

Hello, dear reader. You tune into this website because we write about Netflix stuff. The truth is that while we adore the streamer, we also are human enough to know there is stuff worth watching beyond Netflix. Barely, but some.

The funny bit is that Netflix is so important and huge that many of these shows will probably eventually find their way to being streamed on your favorite subscription service. If someone wants a lot of views then they will go to Netflix.

We've just had a huge update on the progress of Blade Runner 2099, the hugely exciting sci-fi series coming to Prime Video next year, and it seems like they've managed to meet that goal of finishing production before 2025 — by the skin of their replicant teeth. A returning fan favorite has revealed her character's new storyline in the eagerly anticipated third season of The White Lotus. In Season 1, Natasha Rothwell played Belinda Lindsey, a spa manager from the White Lotus resort in Hawaii.

Rothwell will reprise the role for which she earned an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in the upcoming season of the acclaimed HBO satirical vacation anthology set in Thailand. Following last year's announcement of Belinda's return, the actor has refused to divulge any plot information about her role until now. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rothwell joked about how she had been sworn to secrecy regarding how and why her character relocates from Hawaii. Blade Runner 2099 has been filming in locations around Prague and Belfast for the past six months, and Prime Video (via SFFGazette.com) has now announced that principal photography has wrapped on the sci-fi sequel series.

No official premiere date has been announced, with the streamer simply stating that the show is "coming soon to Prime Video."

"In Los Angeles 2099, Cora (Hunter Schafer) lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities. The next installment in the Blade Runner franchise is almost ready. Blade Runner 2099 has just received a massive production update.

Per DiscussingFilm, Blade Runner 2099 has wrapped filming. Production on the limited sci-fi series began in Prague in May 2024, with filming kicking off the following month. Rob Hardy and Ula Pontikos served as cinematographers. This production update comes roughly 18 months after the Prime Video series was originally set to begin filming. However, Prime Video froze production on Blade Runner 2099 until May 2024 due to the then-ongoing writers' strike. This delay resulted in the production leaving Northern Ireland's Belfast Harbour Studios once the strike had concluded for Prague, Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic, the location for Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu,” starring Bill Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp, has given a major boost to its production incentives.

An amendment to the country’s Audiovisual Act has upped the incentive for live-action projects from 20% to 25%. Added to that an incentive of 35% for digital production and animation, excluding live-action sequences, has been introduced. Also, the maximum amount that can be claimed per project has been tripled to $19 million.

Another change is that documentary series can now tap into the production incentive.

In terms of the production incentives, the most significant changes will take effect at the start of January 2025. The entire law including all changes will come into force in 2026.

Rather, it imagines scenarios in which humanity is unbounded from limits on technological innovation and advancement. Thus, the possibilities are virtually endless. In these movies, dystopian futures are a reality, the universe is explored to its greatest ends, and extraterrestrial life is prominent. Even with unlimited potential, it seems like the most famous sci-fi works typically implement a pessimistic perspective.

Meeting other life forms has some positive implications, but the genre always assumes the worst. The Czech Republic is hoping to lure more Hollywood projects to the landlocked country after a series of improvements to its production incentive were greenlit.

The country’s senate in Prague today passed a number of amendments that will make top-line changes to the Audiovisual Act beginning in January. The new legislation follows long-running talks and campaigning by several industry bodies, and will provide a “dramatic boost” to the country’s production sector, according to the Czech Film Commission.

This comes as the Czech Republic looks to cement its place as an international production hub in the face of increasing competition from other country’s newer incentives and rebates, and as overseas hubs look to attract Hollywood back to their shores following last year’s labor strikes.

Among the changes, which are the first in more than a decade, the Czech Film Fund will be renamed the Czech Audiovisual Fund.
