ABC is developing a single-camera comedy inspired by the life of Alanis Morissette.
Titled “Relatable,” the project hails from co-creators Elizabeth Beckwith and Christopher Moynihan, with Beckwith writing the pilot. Moynihan will serve as showrunner, with both also executive producing. Morissette will executive produce and also pen original music for the show.
Willie Mercer and Ron West will serve as executive producers for Thruline, and Jonathan Daniel will serve as executive producer for Crush Music. 20th Television will produce.
Morissette is perhaps best known for her 1995 album “Jagged Little Pill,” which has sold over 30 million copies and inspired the Broadway musical of the same name. Since then, she has released nine more albums and contributed music to numerous productions while also appearing onscreen in several projects. In August 2021 she kicked off her world tour celebrating 25 years of “Jagged Little Pill.”
Beckwith is currently a supervising producer on the hit ABC comedy “The Goldbergs.

Alanis Morissette-Inspired Sitcom In The Works At ABC From Elizabeth Beckwith & Christopher Moynihan
Alanis Morissette, the singer/songwriter behind the multi-million-selling album Jagged Little Pill, is to be the inspiration for a new ABC sitcom.
Relatable, which will parody the family life of a ’90s rock legend, comes from The Goldbergs supervising producer Elizabeth Beckwith and Marlon co-creator Christopher Moynihan with “Ironic” singer Morissette exec producing and penning original music.
The project is in development at ABC with 20th Television as the studio, producing in association with Thruline Entertainment, which produces series such as Hulu’s The Great and Psych, and Crush Music, the management company that reps Morissette as well as artists including Courtney Love, Miley Cyrus, Green Day and Weezer.
Relatable is a single-camera comedy that follows a 40-something woman, married with three kids, who spent her young adult life as an international rock star, famous for her self-penned anthems of female rage and teen angst. Now this “voice of her generation,...

The recession of 2008 helped popularize the somewhat silly and context-free term “mancession,” which suggested that the brunt of the crisis’ job losses were felt by men.
Whether or not it was a true economic shift or just a temporary anomaly, the collective freak-out about the mancession and its impact on masculine identity made its way into a bunch of schlocky broadcast sitcoms— ABC’s Last Man Standing succeeded, while Man Up!, Work It and a half dozen others did not — that are more frequently remembered as punch lines than for their punch lines, especially given that they all arrived on ...

Ant-Man hasn’t been the surprise success that Guardians of the Galaxy was last August when it went on to become 2014’s highest grossing superhero movie, but Marvel’s final Phase 2 release has still had a pretty strong outing at the worldwide box office. After debuting in Japan at #1 with a solid $1.7 million (which is a good start for Western movie), Ant-Man has now sailed past the $400 million mark.
Believe it or not, that $1.7 million opening is bigger than both Captain America: The Winter Solider and Thor: The Dark World, and takes the international box office for Ant-Man up to $223.8 million with $117.6 million from North America for a current total of $401.4 million. The top international markets were the UK ($25.3 million), Korea ($18.9 million), and Mexico ($15.1 million).

We saw the first trailer just last week and today the MPAA delivers the rating for Angelina Jolie's new movie in which she not only directs, but stars in opposite her husband, Brad Pitt, and it seems By the Sea won't only be touting the names of the two high profile celebs, but a strong R-rating along with it for "strong sexuality, nudity, and language." That'll heat up the cinema, though this looks like a bit of a tough drama than some sort of Fifty Shades sex romp. Speaking of... next up is yet another new Nicholas Sparks adaptation, this one is called The Choice starring Alexandra Daddario, Teresa Palmer, Maggie Grace, Tom Welling, Benjamin Walker and even Tom Wilkinson. PG-13 rating for this one... naturally. Oh, yeah, and guess where it takes place... If you said a "small coastal town", pat yourself on the back. A couple animated...

Actor Idris Elba graces the cover of Maxim’s September issue, the first solo-male cover in the history of the men’s publication. Wearing a dark coat alongside the caption, “Man Up,” Elba’s cover differs significantly from Maxim’s usual covers, which usually features scantily clad women. “We’ve never in U.S. Maxim history had a man on the cover solo,” new editor-in-chief Kate Lanphear told Racked. “This is the very first time, and there was no one else in the world more badass than Idris.” Also Read: Netflix Sets Date for Idris Elba Film 'Beasts of No Nation...

Supergravity Pictures is having a big VidCon weekend. The day before the debut of the feature film studio’s second movie, The Chosen, it has announced a strategic investment from Otter Media, the joint venture launched by The Chernin Group and At&T.
Otter Media, which also owns a controlling stake in top multi-channel YouTube network Fullscreen, will support Supergravity as the studio looks to expand its team and secure additional film deals. The investment will include a co-production partnership, through which we can assume Supergravity will work closely with the Fullscreen Films division, which has produced movies like #O2LForever.
Supergravity’s current lineup includes Man Up, which arrived on Vimeo On Demand in May, and The Chosen, which stars digital media star Kian Lawley. It’s upcoming projects include a documentary produced in partnership with Ray William Johnson.

We get it. Ant-Man changed a lot from it's first draft to its very last, with director Edgar Wright leaving the project after nearly a decade of pre-production work and Peyton Reed coming into replace him. The Marvel adventure was a hit, topping the box office during it's debut last weekend. Though, it is the studio's second lowest opener, earning just slightly more than 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Because it has gone through so many changes leading up to its release, fans have wondered what got tweaked throughout the course of the film's long prep time. Peyton Reed has offered some insight into that, revealing what the alternate opening and ending contained. We also have a strange new TV spot that showcases a deleted scene.
It's hard to imagine the film doing any better or worse at the box office with Edgar Wright attached. While it would have been a decidedly different film,...

Am I the only one who’s pissed that Fifty Shades of Grey has officially been rated R? That stuff should be Nc-17 and you know it. If you remember correctly, producers said there would be two versions of the film, one rated R and one rated Nc-17, but now they’re chickening out and bringing my morale way down. You would, Universal.
E.L. James had some freaky action in her books, which is obviously why they are so wildly popular. Shamelessly, we were ready to see it all play out in theaters. In an interview earlier this year, Dornan insinuated that he wouldn’t be shooting full-frontal, and recently compared his junk to “a little bag of grapes” that he tucked away on set. But on some level, I still felt a sliver of hope that we would see something. Anything. Even a millisecond side-peak, Ben Affleck style.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! was forced to cut a challenge short in tonight's episode after a huge storm erupted over camp.
The extreme weather called an end to the Shed of Dread task, which saw Jimmy Bullard and Carl Fogarty being taken in a helicopter to a dark shed full of jungle critters.
The duo were informed that they would have to stay in the shed for 12 hours, but their fellow celebrities were able to cut that time down by sacrificing items that were important to them.
Jake Quickenden gave up his fan, Melanie Sykes handed over her tweezer, Michael Buerk reluctantly sacrificed his chair and Edwina Currie and Vicki Michelle agreed to do without makeup.
That reduced Bullard and Fogarty's time in the shed from 12 to six hours, but the celebrities were then told they could reduce the time to just three hours if they sacrificed postcards from home.

Nothing too exciting here, but now that Affleck is present, perhaps it won't be long until we get out first snaps of Batman and Superman face-to-face! We'll update in any clearer pics become available. Bruce Wayne just ruined his $30 mani! Keeping up to date on all things Walking Dead means more than just reading the comic and watching the TV show. Sometimes it means living it as well. I did that a few years ago when I went undercover as a zombie on the show back in season 2, although that bastard Robert Kirkman ended up cutting my scene because “the performance just wasn’t there.” Screw that. So this time I decided to switch sides and join the survivors and see if I could escape the clutches (and, more importantly, jaws) of the undead by walking through Rick’s — and...

Editor’s note: This review was originally published on September 7, 2014 as part of our Tiff 2014 coverage. We know Judd Altman. He’s the guy in the movie that looks and acts like he has it all figured out, but who’s about to find out – quite suddenly, in fact, and by way of some sort of dramatic event that would never happen quite that way in real life – that nothing is actually as it seems. We know Judd Altman. We’ve seen Judd Altman plenty of times before. But is there anything new to this particular Judd Altman? Based on Jonathan Tropper’s novel of the same name, Shawn Levy’s This Is Where I Leave You explores what happens to Judd (Jason Bateman) after the rug is pulled, spectacularly and swiftly, out from underneath him. But Levy’s overstuffed and unfocused feature is unable to give Judd the attention he deserves – or, at...

Superheroes and fairy tales dominated the midseason lineup at ABC’s upfront presentation, with shows like Galavant and Marvel’s Agent Carter coming soon. “We may be a terrible network,” joked Jimmy Kimmel, “but we are a great birthday party for a 6-year-old.” But for fall, ABC stuck to the basics: broad comedies, police procedurals, and Shonda Rhimes, whom ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee described as the Charles Dickens of our generation. Her latest show, How to Get Away With Murder, isn’t exactly Great Expectations, but it might be the only new ABC series worth watching. Quick takes on the others follow below.

Dan Fogler (“Kung Fu Panda,” “Hannibal,” “Man Up”) has been on the outskirts of the scene for some time now, but his new film, “Don Peyote” is pushing him into the limelight. Fogler tells the story of an unemployed stoner who becomes obsessed with 2012 doomsday theories with the help of cast mates Anne Hathaway, Jay Baruchel, and Josh Duhamel. He tells Backstage of his experience making the film. I approached making “Don Peyote” as an actor first. I wanted to make something where I could flex some creative muscle, and show more of the spectrum of my abilities. Playing a party animal/nerd is fun, but, the real message here is you have to create parts for yourself if the parts you want to play aren’t out there or coming to you. Period. And anyone can be a moviemaker, nowadays, when you have a camera in your phone. I will admit,...

A few weeks ago we heard that Batman Vs. Superman was vacating its summer 2015 slot in favor of May 2016. It was safe to assume such a prime weekend wouldn’t remain unclaimed for too long, and sure enough, today we have word that Disney is swooping in and bumping Ant-Man up to July 17th.
This is the second date change for the Edgar Wright-directed superhero flick, as it was originally slated to release November 5, 2015 before moving to July 31st of the same year. It’s not the only big movie coming out that weekend either, with Warner Bros. scheduling their Peter Pan origin tale, Pan, for that same weekend. Still, Pan won’t draw nearly as big of an audience as Batman Vs. Superman would have, meaning Ant-Man should have no trouble winning the box office battle.
In previous years, that particular weekend has been huge for Warner Bros.
