Watching an episode of Property Brothers and the young couple has 1.1 million to purchase a house. They look at a house that is too expensive (as everyone of these episodes goes) they get angry because they cannot afford it and ask the scripted question, "Why would you show us a house we cannot afford?" More scripted answers, then they show two or three really ugly houses.
My question is why would you spend all of that money to rehab an old ugly house only to discover there are "hidden" problems that will magically be solved for all or nearly all of your max budget, instead of just BUILDING A NEW HOUSE??? It could be an excellent show except for the scripting and high reno and staging costs. Why do the brothers have to pick such absurdly expensive furniture and appliances, most of which I would prefer to pick out myself? I also wonder how many of these homeowners end up being disappointed about spending so much money? I know, it is HGTV but some of this stuff is absurd.

Ever since I started to watch this show, I have been hooked. I watch it weekly. I have learned a lot from Jonathan and Drew. I love how they keep the cost low and stay inside the budget as they make the couples dream homes a reality. They bring in a lot of humor and part of themselves into each and every episode. When Jonathan is renovating, he will stop and say what is supposed to be done and correctly. And they use really cool technology to show the couple what their dream house could possibly look like. This is definitely something that I would recommend. Plus, Jonathan and Drew are amazingly cute as well. :D If you want a renovation show, with humor this is the show to watch.
I would have given this show a higher review because overall I definitely feel it is MUCH better than the average 3.3 stars it is setting at right now. For me, as someone who loves the idea of a fixer-upper this is the dream show and is perfect for HGTV. The only issue I have with this show is the length. It is only a half hour and there is too much material vying for TV time. I feel an hour for these two seasoned individuals would be more adequate. A half hour devoted to looking at the fixer-uppers, the options of how they could be fixed up and then a half hour devoted for the demo, a deeper look at how the renovation went and the "before and after" shots.
The enjoyment of this show relies much on the natural charm and charisma of the Scott brothers. If you like them, you'll probably like the show. The identical twins are good looking, energetic, humorous, and good with often difficult homeowners. I love them! Those homeowners though... I don't know where they find some of these people or why they select them for the show. The Property Brothers have been on TV for a while, so it should be obvious to everyone what they do and how they do it. However, just about every episode includes homeowners who:
* Want to buy a move-in ready house with no renovations needed (rendering Jonathan useless, I guess).
* Want a house way out of their price range (a quick look at real estate listings could have told them that).
* Are super picky and controlling about every little detail (then why call a TV show that involves someone designing and renovating your home?).
It gets to the point where I think the show's producers just want to generate drama for the show by selecting homeowners that will butt heads with the brothers.
If it weren't for the lovable brothers, I would not bother watching this show. I would be happy to call them, and they can design my house however they want! I won't even fight them over backsplash tiles.

I love this show! I was hooked from the 1st episode.
Out of the 13 episodes in season 1, all of them were intriguing to watch since all the couples had completely different styles, wish lists and budgets. Plus, with each episode you get to watch the handsome brothers combine their individual talents to make one dynamic team.
If I did have to pick one favourite episode, it would be the very first episode I watched with couple Stefan & Owen. Watching their doubting reactions when Drew showed them the older homes that had potential was over-the-top and funny. They couldn't even see Jonathan's vision of possibilities. They definitely changed their opinions and reactions at the incredible reveal.
Can't wait for season 2 and double the episodes.
