An average horror with a decent ending

When a dangerous patient (Matt Connelly) escapes confinement in a mental asylum and goes on a rampant killing spree, the night shift staff face their worst nightmare, as they fight for survival.

It's a fairly small cast and run time is only 56 minutes. However, there's not really a wasted minute in this film so it still feels like an easy to watch feature length film. Some of the videography was really good, which can't be said of the acting. Possibly the best acting of all was from Tess O'Flaherty who played Klara, one of the inmates. She was only onscreen for a total of about 2 minutes but she sold me totally on her role. The rest wasn't really bad, it just wasn't really good. There was a little tension and as I said in the title, a decent twist at the end which I had expected, but in a completely different way to the way it happened. There's plenty of gore in it if that's your thing, and several tense moments so it's not at all terrible. I gave it a solid 4 because the story and filming was actually pretty good, it was only let down by the acting.

Watchable slasher, but nothing outstanding...

Stumbling upon the 2024 Australian horror movie "Spithood" by random chance here in 2025, I needed no persuasion to sit down and watch it. Why? Well, I am a fan of all things horror, and with it being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to give director Tim Pine's 2024 movie a fair chance.

Writers Travis Akbar, Tim Pine and Thibul Nettle, with the latter also starring in the movie, put together a straightforward script and storyline, though it was somewhat on the simplistic side. It wasn't a particularly scary movie, nor an outstanding foray into the slasher genre. But with that being said, don't get me wrong here, because "Spithood" was an adequately enough watchable movie.

With my limited exposure to Australian cinema, then I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. Though I will say that the acting performances were fair.

The movie has a bit of blood and violence in it, which definitely helped to spruce up the otherwise generic and somewhat monotonous narrative.

Watchable for what it was, but hardly an outstanding or memorable venture into the slasher subgenre of horror. It is not a movie that I will be returning to watch a second time.

My rating of director Tim Pine's 2024 movie "Spithood" lands on a four out of ten stars.

An unexpected ending

The movie was expected to be a serial killer of an ordinary low-budget cat and mouse game.

A place where a killer who suddenly enters the hospital and suddenly closes down. The familiar murders take place in the movie. However, I get a unique sense of fun from the secret that is revealed little by little. If Taken's hero dady is half crazy, he could be like that.

Murder is not direct or radical, but it maximizes fear with an appropriate atmosphere, slow screen and chase. Interest increases as very plausible events continue, not unrealistic serial killers.

Considering that it is a 60-minute movie on a low budget, it is a movie worth enjoying.

Why was he shifted into that particular asylum?

I got enticed into seeing this cos of the trailer n the premise of the movie's story taking place in an asylum with just a few doctors n security guards hunted down by an intimidating, aggressive, fast and furious killer.

It's pretty obvious that the director is influenced by Assault on Precinct 13, Last Shift n Asylum Blackout.

Most people r complaining how the killer got out of the confinement. Mayb they didn't see the entire movie. It is revealed in the end that he was helped by ......

Of course even i can't fathom how the killer got hold of a meat cleaver n how he was able to track down the Asian security guard in the toilet.

Also why the killer lets Jeeves (the old security guard with heart problem) go for no particular reason.

The movie has few tensed moments, the chase scenes are heart pounding.

I expected a showdown between the killer n Ashley's boyfriend Mason (played by one of the writers) but alas.

The poster looked very similar to Storm Warning, a guy with a machete surrounded by red color.
