This past Sunday night’s 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards was a fantastic night for The Social Network, Glee, and The Kids are Alright, but aside from the notable win by Jim Parsons for Best Actor in a TV Series – Comedy or Musical, sci-fi / fantasy nominees went home empty-handed.
How could Christopher Nolan’s Inception, Red, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, and AMC’s The Walking Dead not have won anything? The Hollywood Foreign Press Association definitely had their eyes on more reality-based entertainment as exhibited by the number of The Social Network wins and Al Pacino and Claire Danes’ wins for their portrayals of suicide doctor Jack Kevorkian and autistic, livestock scientist Temple Grandin respectively.
Show host, Ricky Gervais’ mean-spirited style of hosting “pushed the envelope and occasionally went too far.” Aside from gape-mouthed “wow, did Ricky really just say that?” moments throughout the show, it was still...

Whatever you thought of Ricky Gervais' hosting duties at the Golden Globes on Sunday, that performance is one of the reasons viewership of the ceremony rose.
The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards pulled in 16.99 million viewers and a 5.2 rating, giving the show a 5% increase in the key demo from last year for NBC.
Newspaper outlets and online social networks exploded with reaction which proved divided over the tone which some have labelled too acidic or "nasty", others however loved it and several online polls were overwhelmingly in favour of his performance.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association released a statement yesterday saying "We loved the show. It was a lot of fun and obviously has a lot of people talking. When you hire a comedian like Ricky Gervais, one expects in your face, sometimes outrageous material. Certainly, in this case, he pushed the envelope and occasionally went too far. The...

The Golden Globes happened. People wrote about them. Here's how it went: Ricky Gervais was shocking and will definitely not be invited back, says Tara Ariano, who then details many of the ways in which Gervais mocked both the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the stars on the show, and assorted others. (But she's wrong when she says he "took aim" at Scientology; rather, he took aim at a couple of prominent Scientologists.) I think she misinterprets Robert Downey Jr.'s response to Gervais, but the biggest problem is the lack of context:...

The nation's movie critics have been saying for the last month that "The Social Network" is the best film of 2010. Now, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has agreed with them. Ricky Gervais was back this year as the host of 'The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards' (Sun. 8Pm on NBC), and he was as biting and brutal as always. He takes to the Hollywood elite like Don Rickles does to his audiences.
The night started off with perhaps the most obvious target. "He picked up a porn star, went to a hotel, got drunk, got naked, trashed the place while she was locked in the cupboard and that was a Monday. What did he do New Year's Eve?" Gervais asked of Charlie Sheen.
His tirades would target the actresses of 'Sex and the City 2,' the film 'The Tourist' and even Hugh Hefner's upcoming nuptials. "Just don't look at it when you touch it," he advised bride-to-be 24-year old Crystal Harris.
And all of that before the first award was given.

Robert De Niro may best be known for his impressive body of work in dramatic film, but his more recent forays into comedy aren't coming out of nowhere. As he proved in his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award at 'The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards' (Sun., 8Pm on NBC), De Niro has comedic chops to spare.
In a sharp, satirical speech, De Niro made jabs at the Hollywood Foreign Press Assocation, Homeland Security, 3-D and even his own recent movie. "I was very, very moved and gratified when you made the announcement [of this award] two months ago," he said. "Well before you had a chance to review 'Little Fockers'."

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Jake Gyllenhaal, Sandra Bullock - they're just a few of the heavy hitters who are expected to converge on this year's Golden Globes, upping the glamour factor to new heights. Hollywood's royal couple Jolie and Pitt are due to make an appearance in honor of her best actress nod for The Tourist, and Jolie can always be counted on to cut a stunning figure on the red carpet. Fellow nominee Natalie Portman (for Black Swan) will display a different kind of style - all eyes will be on the pregnant actress as she...

Jennifer Love Hewitt is no stranger to the red carpet, but gearing up for her first Golden Globes as a nominee is bringing out a whole new range of emotions. "I'm super excited [and] very nervous, oddly enough," Hewitt told People at a W magazine party celebrating the Golden Globes Friday night. "I don't get nervous, but I feel nervous. I'm really excited." Hewitt, who attended the party with her actor boyfriend Alex Beh, earned her first Globe nomination - best performance by an actress in a mini-series or a motion picture made for television - for her portrayal of a...

I love the Golden Globes. They efficiently toss out statuettes for film and TV in one snappy show, ply celebrities with enough champagne to say silly things on camera, and insist on bringing back Ricky Gervais to host, knowing he'll say something to tick off somebody important. So, in the awards-show spirit, let's get to who ought to win Sunday night. Best Motion Picture - Drama: The King's SpeechNo question, The Social Network is the movie of the moment. It's at the top of critics' lists, and with an amazing script from Aaron Sorkin, kinetic directing from David Fincher, and...

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for the 68th Golden Globe Awards this morning, which included 4 nominations for Inception. Nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score; Inception is tied with Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan in amount of nominations, and behind The Social Network and The Fighter, which have 6 nominations each, and The King’s Speech‘s 7 total nominations. To a little surprise there are no acting nominations for Inception, but to be honest, the winners for those categories are practically a lock. Our buddies over at the Hero Complex twitter say that Christopher is excited about the nominations, although under the weather at the moment and currently scouting for locations in Asia for The Dark Knight Rises. Seems like Christopher is keeping focused the future.
Congratulations to Christopher Nolan and team on the nominations. We (obviously) are pulling for you!
